Dwemer Robots in Skyrim

  • I noticed some weird statues in one of the videos.  They looked like robots!  So, I did a little research into Dwemer contraptions and it turns out that's exactly what they are.  They're sentient, mechanical guardians known as Animunculi (aka, Centurion Spheres).

Have I mentioned I love robots?  Especially ancient ones once owned by a now mysteriously-extinct race.  I hope we get to unfold that mystery in Skyrim!

So, here's the image I took:

Notice the one on the left has what appears to be a complex contraption on his arm, maybe a gun!  Possibly some advanced crossbow, I don't know.

These appear to be just statues on a pedestal, however.  Unless there is a sweet, terrifying animation of them jumping down, I doubt we'll fight them.

I got the screenshot from this video, starting at 3:59

Also, I have to stop starting all my comments with "Well," - it's just a bad habit.

@Paul - Well, in the ten years or more that I've played Morrowind, a lot has changed.  I've read hundreds of different fantasy and science fiction books, and I've played hundreds of new games, including Oblivion, extensively.  I guess somewhere along the ...  more

I take it you didn't play Morrowind then, Jay
I always enjoyed the Dwemer ruins in MW ,with their steampunk vibe and sense of it being a lost technology. I mean how cool was it to exit a medieval low fantasy world, and stumble upon mechanical robot...  more

Well, since I started this thread I've been very surprised by how interesting these 'robots' actually are, and now I'm very Hell-bent on finding them in Skyrim.  Now that I'm on the lookout for these Centurions, I found a couple more images I thought I'd ...  more

The Dwemer disappeared from the face of Nirn, or at least from the area of Tamriel (the contenent on Nirn in which the Elder Scrolls takes place, for those of you who weren't yet aware) many thousands of years ago.  They first made an appearance in the Re...  more

None the less we should add it to the group page, it normally gets a couple more interesting responses when put on that page

Reply Bilbo:  If by them, you mean the dwemer - I don't think we'll see a group, maybe one or two - I guess technically constitutes a group.  But, we saw only one dwemer in Morrowind - and he was a tad under the weather.  As far as a large group, I wouldn...  more
