Viking Movie (Netflix Available)

  • If you all are looking for something to do to kill the time until the release date in two days, you may want to consider checking out the movie Valhalla Rising, which is available from Netflix Instant. This gorgeous and bleak movie was directed by Nicolas Winding Refn, a Danish dude who did the Pusher trilogy, and the also excellent, recently released Drive with Ryan Gosling. The movie is entirely surreal, and mostly metaphorical; parts of it feel like a cross between the Star Child sequence from 2001: A Space Odyssey and the New World by Terrence Malick. That said, the acting, sets, costumes, and cinematography are all excellent. There is also shocking and brutal medieval combat. This film is definitely not for children, but I would recommend it for mature teenagers interested in cinema. The plot is inconsequential. If you do not like feeling lost during movies this may not be for you. If, however, you allow yourself to slip in to its naturalistic rhythms, you will be rewarded.

I watched it a few months ago (on netflix, imagine that) and it's like a skyrim character think-tank. I advise everyone whos into the whole dark, brooding, viking thing (meaning everyone here at TSB) to see it ASAP.
