The Only Company, Chapter 1: Fear

  •      As I calmly walk down the road to nowhere, I hear a rustling in the trees. I stop. I pull out my mace and slowly begin to tread to where the sound came from. When I am sure nobody is there I sheath my mace and continue on the road. But I cannot shake the feeling that someone...or...something is following me. After a quick check of the sun's position I realize it's later the I expected. My stomach grumbles. "Ugh...I need food". I realize my only option is to hunt. I start to walk through the woods. I see an abandoned house. "Hmm, interesting...". I walk into the house and, to my amazement, I see a kitchen full of food. "This house is not so abandoned as I thought". I realized I was quite scared. Not because I was scared of death, because I was scared that I would kill someone. But, despite me fear, I walk into a small crawlspace and wait for anyone to come. After long hours of waiting I heard footsteps. I slowly drew my mace and crawled out of the crawlspace. "Heh", I thought, amused at the situation, "I guess that's why they call it a crawlspace".  I stood up and looked at a child, she had her back turned away from me. I didn't even think. I pulled my mace up...and I swung as hard as I could.

I loud crack echoed through the house. I looked at what I had done. I simply kicked the body of the girl away from the table, and ate everything I could fit into my stomach. I waited about an hour, feeling satisfied with myself, then found the road to nowhere, and continued my journey. By nightfall I had a small pile if leaves ready to lay down on. When I got comfortable I closed my eyes, and drifted into sleep. When I awoke something didn't feel right. I tried to rub my eyes to wake up but then I realized my hands were tied. I tried to break the bonds but to no avail. I tried to yell out but my mouth was tied shut. I looked around. I was in a cage. "Caged up like an animal...heh I guess I am an animal...at least to others". I closed my eyes and lay my head back, accepting any fate that came to me. I heard a voice. "You are my prisoner, tied up to feed my hunger. I hope you enjoy your stay. Haha...hahaha...HAHAHAHA!". The laughter hurt my ears. I tried to stand up but my legs were in shackles. I looked at the woman. I then felt fear like no other. Not fear of death, not fear of killing to escape, but fear of life. Immortal life to be exact. I saw the woman's teeth two sharp points jutting from her mouth. I yelled as loud as I could, but it wasn't very loud due the cloth around my mouth. And just like that, she was upon me.

Author's Note: Hey everyone! Finally got some time to write the first chapter. To some people the story may appear to be mixed up. This is for very good reason. The character has many emotional issues, if you haven't already guessed. He was happy, then fearful, then calm, then scared out of his mind, all within this short story. For further explanation please feel free to ask me any questions. Hope you guys enjoy this!
