The Lonely Warrior Prologue and Chapter 1

  • (Little warning, there will be a little, erm, gore in this, not to much, so, just a warning)

I startle awake to the sound of yelling, my head was pounding, yet I could still see clearly, somehow.

"Maybe this wasn't such a good idea to come down here, Cavek." Came a deep, older voice not a few feet away.

"Quiet! You saw the lights coming from this place, something startled the monster in here, and that means it could be dead, haven't you heard of the treasure that this place holds?!" A tiny, younger voice said excitedly.

"Well, yes, I know, but what if that thing isn't dead? It's going to be mighty pissed if it finds us in here, and to top it off, I can't see a thing! Why didn't you light the torches before we got in here?"

"Shut up Ralik and keep hugging the wall, I'll light them in a minute."

I follow them, quietly, even though my head is still pounding and watch while they move closer to the room I was in when the creature attacked me. So, was he guarding this 'Treasure'? Or was he just hungry for my flesh? Either way, it sounds too good to pass up, so following these guys could be worth while anyway.

As they moved into the room, and lit torches for themselves, I hid in the shadows, waiting for them to find the treasure. They stood the torches up against a wall, and saw the dark box the creature came out of.

"Dear Mara... It's covered in blood. What happened in this place?" Ralik's voice sounded nervous, I could hear his footsteps backing away from the box.

"Ralik, don't be a coward, we'll be quick I promise. Now look around, it has to be here somewhere."

I silently crept through the shadows of the tomb, watching with patience as they searched the place. An hour passed by and they still haven't found anything, I almost turn to leave when I see a glint of light coming from the end of the room. It's faint, barely there, but my eyes can see it somehow.

I creep over to it without them noticing, and look at it, I'm perplexed by the way it looks, It's a small symbol of some kind, it feels warm to the touch as I place a finger on it, I lose myself for a moment when I hear a yell from behind me. "Who the hell is that!?" It was Ralik, I could hear the panic in his voice.

"I don't know, but he's about to wish he wasn't stuck in here with us." Cavek came beside him, holding up a bow, drawing an arrow from his quiver with nice speed.

I stare at them blankly, "I've been through worse than you two, don't do this, I'd rather not kill anymore tonight."

Too late, the arrow pierces my right shoulder, straight through the bone, yet I feel barely harmed. What happened to me? Have I become a freak like that monster in this god-forsaken place? I grab the arrow right out, and launch it at Cavek's hand, getting a direct shot, disarming him. "Damn it! Get him Ralik! Roast him!"

I see Ralik's hands light up, just like mine did before, yet it seem so calm, I hear him chant a few words, a prayer I believe, then I see flames shoot from his hands, towards me. I feel the sting instantly, and cover my face with my hands, when the light fades, my hands are blackened, and scared, I look up and Cavek's running towards me with a dagger, I don't have much energy left, so I manage to unsheath my own sword from it's holder, and instantly lopping off his arm, he falls to his knees, screaming.

Ralik gets ready for another round with me, but I won't let him get that far, I take Cavek's dagger from the ground and launch it with all my remaining strength right into Ralik's skull. He drops to the ground with a loud thud, and the only sound I hear now is Cavek's agony.

I slowly walk over to him, my arms still feeling like they are on fire, I look him in the eyes, and he whispers, "You.. are a monster... " I cringe at that word, as he calls me it, I hear the other kids from the town, still saying things similar. I erupt in rage and step on his chest, breaking a rib or two.

"I didn't want to kill either of you, but you guys brought this on yourselves, hope you've said your prayers to the gods." I grab him by the neck and with little squeeze, break it, and he falls limb.

I can smell his blood, going through my nostrils, I feel some sort of hunger wash over me. As I taste his blood, I think to myself... I really am truly lonely now, aren't I?

Well, I've still got ideas, I hope this wasn't to bad, or rushed or anything. Let me know. :) If you've got anything you'd like to see me add, I might :)
