The Dockworker: Author's Note: On a Related Note

  • Watching the glorious unfolding majesty of Twitch Plays Pokemon has reminded me of the embryonic days of The Dockworker. Molding a story out of a player's (or, you know, 50000 players) attempt to fight against the forces of chaos is a singularly entertaining experience. If you don't know what this is, give yourself a primer.

Thus, the rich--and absolutely bananas--backstory invented by TPP, rationalizing every little occurence as part of the universe.

Accidentally clicking on useless items all the time, for no reason: zealous devotion to a mystical artifact

Overtraining one Pokemon due to an inability to make progress: protection by a mighty warrior

Accidentally releasing numerous Pokemon: punishment for following "the false prophet"

This is the stuff of great fiction, because the universe has its own crazy rules but we buy them. And if the universe's rules don't make sense because the hero is actually being compelled by a million screaming voices, then people make some rules that make more sense. And thus, an entertaining story.

But TPP is still totally going to end with them wandering around Victory Road.

No worries. I've read the series three times now.

Sorry, everyone. Work is work. I don't have the free time I used to. And now that I'm planning a story and not just wandering around Skyrim, it takes considerably longer to make an episode.

Where is the dockworker? It's been like two months.
