The Darkworker 2: Okay, Something Dawnted

  • Problem is, as excited as I am about finding my way to Fort Dawnguard, there remains the little issue of finding my way.

I guess I'm not too surprised. If it's some big castle and I haven't seen it before, no reason I'm going to see it now. But my lack of motivation complicates things. Personally, I haven't noticed any severe vampire threat. The most dangerous vampire I've ever known went and cured himself a month ago.

All this is to say: when a fellow Imperial asks my help clearing out a crypt, I'm grateful for the diversion. Maybe I'll be rewarded with directions.

The crypt is characteristically grim. There's evidence everywhere of mass suicide or starvation or something from a long-ago siege.

There's also evidence of some pretty awesome equipment from years long past. Sadly, like that left behind by the Akaviri, it's just too cumbersome for my tastes.

Besides, when some bright-eyed undead lunatic is swinging a poleaxe at you, what makes more sense? Stand there and take the blow, hoping it doesn't break through your beautiful, shiny armor...or just move out of the way?

I've learned from my dragon brothers, which is to say I've learned from their mistakes. They thought just being big and tough made them impregnable, but I've proven them wrong time and time again.

Granted, when it comes to dealing with mages, I can appreciate a set of strong armor.

Although I find the best approach, usually, is to just kill everyone and be done with it.

Which, of course, brings me back to my distracted musings on the nature of life. My internal monologues are getting out of hand. I'm speechifying at myself!

Hopefully, a fight with a dragon priest will get all this rambling preponderance out of my head.

Sadly, it does not. What is life? What is death? Undeath? Is it undeath if the thing was dead and now back to life? Can't it just be ordinary life? What about vampires? Are they undead or just frozen in time? Why don't vampires start to decay? Why aren't the resurrected dragons considered undead? Why is my Imperial friend wearing Stormcloak clothes?

Well, the last question's an easy one to answer, although I'm not thrilled at how easily I was fooled, thinking that just because he wasn't a Nose he couldn't have been part of Ulfric's remnant.

Likewise, I feel a bit foolish for thinking that just because I'm the head of the Thieves' Guild, Jarl Black-Briar's thugs wouldn't treat me poorly for wandering too close to the estate.

But I suppose I'll let the building live, at least. It's a nice building, after all, and I hate needless destruction of property when its owned by very powerful, important people.

But on the subject of powerful, important people, my wilderness ramblings take me into the path of three oddly-dressed strangers. They say some insulting things about how I'm not the Dragonborn and what-not, but I'm not really listening.

    Vampires now, weirdos later.

I disabled my HUD and the entrance to Dawnguard Keep is really, really hard to find.

How'd do you accidentally wander all the way up to the top of a mountain to the ruin with the dragon priest?

    1. On PC, you type "tfc 1"--it freezes time and lets you fly around.
    2. The Dockworker is my unnamed protagonist's original profession. Did you read the original run? :) And The Speaker was Lisin's job as the Graybeards' emissary. That series wasn'...  more

How do you get those great screen shots? Is it a mod that lets you disconnect your camera from your charater.
Also your title, 'the Darkworker' i know you've have the Dockworker and the Speaker, what does it mean?
