The Dockworker 36: The Beginning of the Ending

  • Still shaken by the sight of a dozen dragons, I stagger into Whiterun some time around midnight to grab a carriage to Riften to see Delvin. The local cult makes another incredibly obnoxious attempt to recruit me.

They're just jealous that I'm in tight with the Thieves' Guild and the Brotherhood and have been ignoring them for almost two months. It takes me a good five minutes to fend her off.

In fact, I'm so tired from dealing with dragons and cults that I must have said the wrong thing to the carriage driver--I wake up in Solitude.

I sigh in frustration and tell the carriage driver to turn around and keep moving. At this point, though, we might as well go to Winterhold. I've gotten wind of a new way of making a bow, and I need to get some ingredients.

I find Enthir in his bedroom and wake him up.

The little twit doesn't discount me, even though he works for me, now, but I'm so strapped with cash that it makes little difference.

At that point, I remember that Winterhold doesn't have a carriage, so I harrumph my way down the mountainside to Windhelm. I stumble across some Stormcloaks at a camp and kill them all. I then notice some injured in a nearby tent.

Well, it'd be cruel to let them freeze to death.

But before I can euthanize the Noses, I'm jumped by a bounty hunter. I suppose I should have expected this--I'm fairly close to Windhelm and last time I was here, I stabbed a woman in broad daylight and then killed half the police force on my way out of the city.

The bounty hunter puts up a good fight, advantaged mainly by the fact that it's daytime and he's wearing more armor than most dragons.

But let's be honest--this wasn't going to end any other way.

I make my approach to Whiterun from around northeast side, around the back. I'm still a wanted lizard, so I kind of have to kill every guard I see.

It's then that I realize where I am. Home sweet home.

The other dockworkers aren't particularly responsive to my calls for insurrection, though. I gotta say, I'm disappointed. I mean, look what I accomplished just because I took a day off! These people need to get out of here before the Legion shows up. Windhelm is next on our hit list, and I'd hate to see my old coworkers caught in the crossfire.

So with that sobering discovery itching at my mind, I grab the carriage before the guards notice me and head down to Riften. I pick up the last supplies I need and make myself a new bow.

And the Stormcloaks thought I was scary before.

I check in with Delvin to get some info on the amulet the weird guy at Ustengrav gave me. He tells me it's kind of a big deal and buys it off me for a decent price. I don't know what that accomplished as far as the Brotherhood goes, but I suppose Astrid will know.

So it's back to Falkreath, again. If this keeps up, I'm going to be Skyrim's champion marathon-runner on top of everything else.
