The Dockworker: Author's Note: Mods

  • First off, I want to say I love your (the readers') constant feedback. It's great to see my little experiment is getting such a positive reception, and I like hearing what people like/don't like as this story continues to evolve over time.

    That said, I notice a lot of people are discussing the mods I'm using. I did a brief blurb on this a while back, but I suppose I might as well put it out there. Also, the mod-makers need credit :)

    This is the master list of mods I'm running on Skyrim, as of July 15th, all of which can be subscribed to on Steam's EXCELLENT Workshop function (seriously; I've played Skyrim 4X as much as I would have because of the easy installs).

    ~~~~~
    Lightweight Potions and Poisons, by JustinOther - Does what it says--makes potions lighter.
    Bandoliers and Pouches, by Cyrax - Adds craftable clothing accessories that increase carry limit
    Static Mesh Improvement Mod, by Brumbek - Touches up static 3D elements in the environment
    Better Dynamic Snow, by DMP - Replaces over a 1000 snow textures to make them prettier
    Dragon Bone Weapons Complete, by churchofsmalldog - Adds new tier of craftable weapons
    Build Your Own Home, by SupernastyPants - Adds in a modular home that player can build
    Alternate Start - Live Another Life, by Arthmoor - The source of inspiration and enabler for this mod: What if the Dragonborn wasn't some hiker from south of the border? And thus "The Dockworker" is born. Cannot give this mod enough praise.
    The Dance of Death - A Killmoves Mod, by Daedalus-AI - Adds many new killmoves to game with a raft of customization options. Indispensable for action shots.
    Lush Trees, by DMP - Makes the trees in the game prettier and more foresty
    Pure Waters, by Laast - Makes water look better by making it less frothy when calm
    Dovahkiin Relaxes Too, by perplexmachine - Allows player to use animations typically restricted only to NPCS. Also indispensable for this blog.
    Better Quest Objectives, by whickus - Disables HUD quest markers and enhances quest descriptions so the HUD-less Dockworker doesn't get lost (as much).
    Enhanced Distant Terrain, by DMP - Causes higher-rez distance textures to load sooner
    Better Deadly Aim Perk, by Bassem - Increases potency of bow-and-arrow sneak attack
    Auto Unequip Arrows, by Alek - Makes quiver vanish when no bow is equipped. Probably the most underrated mod in the Workshop.
    Dragons Diversified, by Doopliss the INCIN-GINEER - Adds many new dragon species
    Duel - Combat Realism 5, by LogRaam - Substantially overhauls melee system so it's more intense, visceral, and realistic
    Enhanced High-Level Gameplay, by Eric - Adds new tiers of powerful enemies to spawn when player is high level
    More Dragons!, by Domcoppinger - Yes, I did bring it on myself. Poor Dawnstar.
    Real Wildlife Skyrim, by nedius - Adds new varieties of local animals, along with different spawn combinations (e.g., larger wolf packs) and more harvestable ingredients from bodies
    HD Plants + Herbs, by Dartanis - Retextures most flowers, herbs, etc. to look better
    Helmetless Warrior, by Moist Prince - Allows crafting of invisible helmets (with same stats)
    Realistic Thunder Sound, by 3 WEEKS NOT HERE DONT DELETE ME - Lulz.
    Reduced Distance NPC Greetings, by Cipscis - NPC ambient conversation trigger distance drastically reduced.
    Dynamic Merchants, by Atomatic - Causes merchants' stock to fluctuate based on how much business player does with them, potentially causing high-level, elite items to be in stock
    Spend Dragon Souls For Perks, by DarkSeraphim85 - Allows exchange of souls for perks (at a rather steep rate).
    Sounds of Skyrim - The Wilds, by Cliffworms - Adds scores of new ambient sounds to the outdoor environment. Very awesome but sadly not conveyed through screenshots :P
    Arrowsmith v3b - Simple Flecthing, by Samutz - Allows player to craft arrows
    Hunter's Discipline 100%, by DaRkL3AD3R - Increases arrow recovery rate
    Sounds of Skyrim - The Dungeons, by Cliffworms - Makes the dungeons unnecessarily terrifying by adding a host of new ambient sound effects.
    More Rain, by Zappoo - Makes rainfall sprite denser.
    RCRN 3 - Realistic Colors and Real Nights (Legacy preset), by aLaaa - Substantial conversion of lighting effect to create deeper bloom and more dramatic light shifts
    Enhanced Blood Textures, by BakaKemono - Makes blood more gory and clotty. Yum!
    Disable Fast Travel, by Deamos - Because I succumb without it.
    More Grass, by MadMonkey119 - Increases density of grasslands and the shrubby places
    Realistic Ragdolls and Force, by BakaKemono - Improves death physics to make bodies collapse more realistically and at real speed
    Kill Them Generals, by Reinsdyret - Makes generals at Legion/Stormcloak camps killable
    Midas Magic - Spells for Skyrim, by xilverbulet - Adds scores of new spells to Skyrim, the books for which must be crafted (and the ingredients are hard to get). Not exactly the Dockworker's forte, but who knows...
    ~~~~~

    So if you read all that and found yourself down here, or if you just compulsively scroll to the bottom of everything, hooray!

    This is more or less a list of all the mods I recommend unconditionally if you want a richer, more beautiful Skyrim experience that is still 100% lore-friendly and pro-immersion (unless you're a stickler about the dragon breeds, which I can understand).

    I haven't noticed any hits, but my computer is pretty powerful to begin with. Only occasionally will Skyrim ever slow down, and that's usually when it's something ridiculous like me dual-casting thunderbolt on a dragon as it's firing at me while a bunch o...  more

    Good choices, I play a lot of these, especially the aesthetic ones.  I'm glad you mentioned "Realistic Ragdogs and Force"; I've been looking for a mod that does this - the unrealistic physics in Skyrim really annoys me.  And I want to add my support of "A...  more

    Thanks for the efford! I'm that wimp that never uses mods, fearing they bug my Skyrim. (And because Skyrim has been enough as it is.) I think it's time to try visual mods, for start!
