Greetings Skyrim people :D

  • Hello Internet

My name is Lex, I’m a fellow Skyrim-er and have played since its release. Admittedly, I did stop for about 5ish months, I had played for a good 120 hours, before I began getting bored. I wasn’t actually doing anything, I mean I just walked around doing everything that didn’t involve quests, basically rummaging around random caves and killing people, attempting to make good coin. Truthfully, I only ever got beyond level 20ish, with about 7 different characters. I’m one of those people that creates a specific class and sticks to it, so when I got to a certain point, I would be like, “damn it, I need to be a mage”, then soon after it would be, “ok, time to make an archer”. SO I really never got that far in the game, haven’t fully experienced it, and now I’m back to playing it, doing quests (I’ve started the main quest and the Dark Brotherhood, I’m actually really enjoying them both!) and yeah, I’m loving it again.

So back when I played Skyrim throughout November through to January, there was something I looked forward to on a weekly basis, for roughly 10 weeks. I read this series back when I played oblivion, and I absolutely LOVED it. “The Elder Strolls”, written by Christopher Livingston, great author, great series (give it a read: http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/12/10/the-elder-strolls-part-1-fresh-off-the-boat/)

I’m not going to ruin it or anything, but the series did come to an early end (the oblivion series- “Livin’ in Oblivion” never really finished, he just stopped making them- http://livinginoblivion.wordpress.com/ -if you get the chance, give that a read too!)

So, I was thinking, “Hey Lex, you’ve always wanted to start some sort of blog, you’ve started playing Skyrim again, and heck you have some free time on your hands after school everyday, why not try making your own “Elder Strolls” series!!!”

Now obviously I don’t want to copy exactly what Chris did, I want a similar idea, but I want to try live it up a bit. I’m not a fan of commentary’s and I can fit a lot more in with a single blog post (instead of just 10-20 minutes in an awkwardly commentated Skyrim youtube series, plus lets face it, CulveyHouse has Skyrim covered on youtube!

So people of the internet, tell me what you think, give me some ideas, what you’d like to see, what you’d like changed. Should I go for the NPC style gameplay where I have to live and act similar to an NPC, but have my own kind of goals (like Christopher’s “The Elder Strolls”) OR should I go for a Adventure post kind of thing, where I have similar rules to Chris, but do quests, adventure around. Should I be a specific class? Should I just use whatever skills needed for the situation. What Race should I use, what mods should I use, the options are endless and I’m open to all suggestions. If I get positive feedback, I’ll post my mod-list when I get home (I’m currently at school typing this up) to give you an idea of what mods I’m currently using.

Anyway, if you’ve read this far, you’ve stuck to my post and I haven’t bored the crap out of you yet, so thank you heaps for reading, and please please please post some suggestions! I’d love to get a blog started up, based on what readers want!

    Lex

Thanks Julian for the reply, I'm super keen to try it out, I just really want to get some ideas before I go through with it! I figured a game blog where the readers had an input to the overall outcome would be more immersive and interesting! The one thing...  more
