Amber's Voyage Chapter Three

  • Everything soon enough has gone back to normal apart from the fact we now don’t have a captain.  Roar and I are still able to sleep inside the Captains cabin mainly because Roar has handed more coins to each crew member but we’ve agreed that once we reach land we are saying our goodbyes.  That time can not come quick enough for me as I am now missing land, any land in fact.  I love the sea but I love the trees and mountains more.

It’s now mid day when the sun is at it’s highest over the ship.  I am in my usual place fishing again.  The barrel near me has many fish flapping around inside it already.  We don’t really need any more food today; I’m just here for something to pass the time.  Then as the hot sun becomes too much for me I decide to have one last catch and then call it a day.  Eventually I pull my last catch of the day from the sea and throw it into the barrel.  I slowly stand to stretch my legs and then place a wooden block on top of the barrel of fish just in case one decides to leap out.  It’s while I’m placing the wooden block down that I notice something shining at the bottom of the barrel.  I lean over further to take a better look.  “What is that?”  I slowly send my hand down into the cold wet barrel between the flapping fish and grab what ever the shiny thing is.  “Got it.”  I hold it up between me and the sun.  “It’s a necklace, what’s a necklace doing inside this barrel?  I know it wasn’t there before; it must have been attached to one of the fish from today’s catch.”  I rinse the necklace in some cold water and wipe it with an old cloth and take a closer look at it.   Its silver chain sparkles in the sun light and the turquoise pendulum stone lies in my hand with such beauty.  I’m transfixed studying the shape and colour and then I decide to put it around my neck.

“A ship!  A ship!”  Farmers Boy calls from the fighting top.  Every member of this ship all rush around to see what Farmers Boy is shouting about.  We all look out to where he is pointing.  In the far distance another ship is heading what seems like slowly towards us.  “Get ready men.”  Stew screeches out and then takes a look at me, “and women.”  I look around for Roar.  “Here Amber.”  Roar appears and throws me a bow and some arrows.  He doesn’t say anything else as I know what he wishes.  I climb the shrouds and wait.

The next minute I find myself waking up in darkness.  I think I’m below deck but in another ship.  My legs and wrists feel as though they are chained up and I’m not alone, many others are crying out or moaning next to me.  “Roar, Roar?”  I shout out but I don’t hear him call back.  I swallow hard, my mouth feels so dry, I just need some water.  I call out Roars name again until my throat goes sore.  It makes no difference he’s not here.  I wait for a while for my eyes to get used to the darkness but they don’t, it remains dark until we reach land.  What land is my next concern.

This was very unexpected and has a deep sense of foreboding for me...I am a little nervous moving to the next post...

I'm kind of feeling a little Celtic lately, let's see how this works out.

Hell of a cut to black. It works I think and maybe more scary in a way. Makes me think deep thoughts.
