Amber's Note Book Chapter Eight

  • Chapter Eight

I wake in a warm bed with Roar asleep next to me.  It’s been a while since I’ve woken up feeling happy and safe in a bed.  My last few times I’ve woken up in a cave or in some sort of danger.  Roar’s loud breathing is some how soothing and makes me feel relaxed.  I want to move even closer to him but I’m afraid that as soon as he’s woken I’ll be expected to leave and we go our separate ways.  Many times I’ve woken up next to a male and have left before they’ve even opened their eyes but tonight I want to stay longer.  Well at least till it gets lighter.  I gently place my arm over his hairy chest and put my head as close to his shoulder as I can and try to catch more sleep.

This time I wake up alone in the same bed.  It’s lighter in the room now and I can hear voices outside the door.  One of the voices is Roar’s.  What should I do, should I stay or leave quickly?  What happens if his wife is outside the door, does he even have a wife?  I look around the room quickly, where are my clothes?  Then I remember the events of last night.  My clothes are somewhere around the table where the voices are coming from.  Fantastic, I quietly tip toe around the room searching in every place that looks as though clothes would be stored.  This room is quite tidy for a male.  Every bit of furniture has some sort of fruit bowl or book lying on top of it.  I search inside the wardrobes.  These all look like Roars clothes, no sign of any female clothes so there’s a good sign he may not be married.  His clothes are far too big for me.  Just as I’m about to give up and go back into bed I remember the bed covers, they will do.  I pull the green material from the bed and wrap it around me the best I can.  I take a deep breath and walk over to the door and open it.

I stand in the door way and everyone who is sat around the table all stop what they are doing and look straight at me.  I freeze and look straight back at them, where the hell is Roar?  This frozen moment seems to go on for a life time and then when the entire colour eventually disappears from my face everyone laughs and starts to clap their hands at me and cheer.  I must have looked terrified to begin with but then I give out a bashful smile and tuck a small amount of my hair behind my right ear.

Roar comes running from the corner of the room smiling and carrying my clothes he pushes me back through to the bed room and closes the door behind him.  Eventually the noise in the other room calms down and they continue to eat their breakfast.  “Sorry about that.”  Roar smiles shyly.  “They returned earlier than I expected.”  “Quest was successful then?”  I cheekily ask while trying to put my clothes on underneath the green cloth that is still round me.  Roar realises what I’m trying to do and turns around so he is no longer facing me.  “Thank you.”  I say and get dressed quickly.

Once I am dressed I politely remake his bed so it looks as though no one’s ever slept in it and I sit on a chair underneath a small window.  “Do you wish to have anything to eat?  I could ask the cook.”  Roar asks trying to break the silence.  “I’m fine thank you.”  I say catching a glance at him and then shyly looking away quickly.  I need to leave now as it’s becoming too awkward.  “Where are my other things?”  I ask still not looking at him fully.  “You wish to leave?”  Roar looks at me now.  This question surprises me and I’m struggling on what to say next.  Come on mind think of an answer, I think to myself.  To be honest I don’t want to leave but I feel too shy to stay.  Why don’t I just say that to him? It sounds like a fair reason.  Why can’t I speak?  Speak for god sake Amber.

“Amber I want you to stay.”  Roar has managed to say without any difficulty.  I on the other hand still say nothing.  Roar notices my struggle now.  “Do you wish to stay?”  He looks quite sad now.  I look down to the floor and nod my head.  “Come.”  Roar says putting his arm around me.  “I’ll show you to the gang.”  Shit, I think to myself.

We both walk together out of the bed room and head over to the main table where everyone is.  Some look up and smile while others continue having their conversations.  “This is Amber.”  Roar shouts out.  Everyone now looks up to listen.  “She will be staying with us as long as she wishes.”  “And will that be in your room?”  A random voice calls out making everyone laugh.  I shyly laugh too.  “Here, sit here love.”  A kind voice says.  I do as instructed and spend the whole day getting to know everyone.  This is where I want to be.

Here's a girl who has a real problem with keeping dressed, but has no problem at all with getting back on her feet and starting over. I'm getting really hooked to her style. Lots of teras and fun for the reader, and also for her.
