Most play Skyrim on the default difficulty

  • The poll over last midweek was about the difficultly level that we most often use when we play Skyrim.

Just over 1000 people voted and the results came out like this

As you can see we got a very sweet, and almost perfect, 'bell curve' effects on this oneĀ

By far the most popular option was 'adept' which is the standard default difficulty level. One way to interpret this result is that most of you didn't realise there were difficulty levels and just went with the default! Alternatively, it could be evidence that Bethesda got the game balancing pretty close to ideal, and that the default level is the most sensible balance of challenge and 'reward' for most people.

A few people knock it down to Apprentice, and a slightly fewer number go right the wussy way down to Novice level. And almost exactly equivalent numbers either bumped it up to Expert or ratcheted it all the way up Master level.

So, how do you interpret this one then?Ā

My level 50 wood elf killed a dragon in 2 shots with my bow, I think it's time to ratchet up the difficulty.

Seems a fair few people are dying, its very easy to spread your character build thin on this game probably because everyone wants to try a bit of every skill and invest perks all over the shop. Try to specialise your builds more.

Jordan, I'm glad you said that
I suck badly when it comes to games - for some reason I have quite poor hand-eye coordination. I wouldn't last five seconds on Call of Duty online!!Ā
I played for a good few hours on Novice, until I got used to t...  more

I've been always playing default. I had a few difficulties but none would cause me to lower the difficulty. My brother on the other hand much more hardcore. He's been playing master all the way through :0

I play on novice because i really am horrible when it comes to games, and beleive it or not, i can barely survuve on apprentice. I have no idea how anyone can play on master

I play on Adept, but if i keep dying i wussy out and lower it to Novice for a while, but i don't understand how you can play on Novice all the time it's just boring and no challenge.

This seems about right, I am playing a ranged character and found the ratio between hidden 1 shots missed shots detected shots and melee damage to be acceptable on adept when using default weapons that aren't smithed or custom enchanted I won't out right ...  more

The difficulty really depends on what you do. If you powerlevel smithing, enchanting and alchemy, then create 200% one hand damage increase with dragon bone armor, then yeah the game's going to be easy. If you don't wear heavy armor/don't use armor perks,...  more

Around level 25, I found that I was dying way too often. I bumped it down to Apprentice until level 35, and I'm doing fine now, happily at level 41.
