Mods are coming thick and fast

  • Astonishingly there are already more than 700 mods for Skyrim uploaded to the new and bourgeoning Skyrim Nexus.

It's astonishing for two reasons. Firstly, the fact that the game has only been out for just over a week. And, secondly, Bethesda haven't yet released their Creation Kit for the game. Yes, all of the mods so far have been made without the toolset that Bethesda plans to give away to PC users to create cool mods!

Inevitably, most of the mods so far as small and relatively minor. I've browsed Nexus and a lot of them are minor stat or gameplay tweaks. Another bunch are graphical adjustments - since its possible to use third-party tools to create new textures or improve existing textures. There aren't any quest mods, added landmasses or new races yet - that will all come in the fulness of time, when modders get their hands on the Creation Kit.

As far as graphic enhancement goes. Here is a run down of the best of the graphic tweaks available so far.

I realise this is very PC-centric, but I'd be interested to know what members of the site who use PC think need to be sorted out with mods. What mods do you think need to be made first?

By the way I just checked on Skyrim Nexus, and they've just reached the 800 mods uploaded mark...

This is the power of Skyrim and mods. Even without the proper modding tools there are already some really sweet mods out there.

Skyrim is a game and peoples tastes differ.  What needs fixing by one person may not by another.  I hated the murky water in Oblivion and one of the first mods I installed fixed that.  When I get my real computer back I will be able to check the detail be...  more

I'm using quite a few mods right now. I mainly download the ones that fix problems with the game, like the blocky faces one, etc, but I have downloaded a few others that increase the detail of the game's environment. Skyrim's graphics may be good, but, in...  more

I'm the same Nakia, I've got no mods installed and don't plan to add any until the whole modding scene develops and matures - which it undoubtedly will...

I am in no rush to add mods to Skyrim.  The graphics are great even on this laptop they are good.  I might check out the tweaks to see what has been done.  It took me roughly a year to add any mods to Oblivion.  I like to see what the vanilla game is like...  more

Also I just discovered this mod that scales down the ragdoll physics so they look more realistic.

The mods I'm using currently include: Killable Children, Windowed Mode, Better faces, Destruction overhaul. Mods I want would be a better Map (you know, like with roads and stuff?) and a complete UI overhual. Also Paul, considering they are just textures ...  more

I'd also like to point out that this guy really doesn't show the best mods, just the ones he likes. The best, as far as visual enhancing goes, will be in the top 25 on Skyrim Nexus. I suggest you go there as well as watching this video.
