Skyrim sells 3.4 million copies in 3 days, and is fastest selling RPG ever

  • Good news for Bethesda in wake of the release of Skyrim...

Early sales figures indicate that the game sold 3.4 million copies at retail outlets in just 3 days after release. That does not count digital copies from Steam, which will add another chunk to the already stellar sales figures.

By way of comparison, by this point Oblivion had sold just 600,000 copies, meaning that Skyrim has outstripped it to the tune of some 600% in early sales.

Skyrim is now the second biggest selling game of 2011, only being beaten by Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. It is outselling major titles such as FIFA 12, Uncharted 3 and Battlefield 3.

Well done to Bethesda for bucking the trend, and proving that you don't have to churn out a brain dead First Person Shooter just to shift the units.

He wasnt comparing Uncharted 3 to Skyrim...he was stating that it outsold those other titles, including Uncharted 3.

I don't think Uncharted 3 should be compared to for this. Despite Uncharted 3 being the fastest selling PS3 exclusive in history, it is only and exclusive and not a multi-platform game, like those others listed here.

@ Kevin: At Gameinformer MW had a review score of 9, so I don't mean it's a bed game but it had a only a 5,75 score from general public. I just drew a clear conclusion that people are getting a bit bored with MW because of the tiny improvements, and in ab...  more

Congratulations to Bethesda.  Congratulations to The Elder Scrolls fan base.  Bethesda played it cool and only trickled out a little teaser information leaving its fans to speculate and advertise the game.

I think you're right Kevin. I've never played any of the CoD games but my son is well into them, and even he admits that MW3 is basically a map pack for the previous game

To correct what I said earlier, I screwed up and accidentally said that MW3 has sold double than Skyrim, what I meant was that MW3 has sold quadruple of Skyrim's sales (a little less, but close enough.).

Also, earlier I said that it isn't reall...  more

@Dieter, sorry, but you are wrong. Call of Duty is not getting less popular, but more. It's sales are increasing every year, but TES sales are increasing at a faster rate, in my opinion, but I don't have the statistics and numbers.

I am really glad Skyrim is doing so well! In my eyes it is number one, Call of Duty PAH! What a stupid game to get such a large following.
