  I am now starting the process of appointing a number of people to the role of 'Site Hosts'. I don't really like the whole Admins / Mods thing that you get on forums, I think its often divisive and hierarchical. So, we're going down the road of 'Site Hosts'...

  The idea is that different parts of the site will have one or more people to 'look after' just that part of the site. You'll be given access to a few, easy-to-use tools to be able to deal with inappropriate content, help people find their feet and generally keep things tidy.

  But its more than just being the big bad guy who wields an axe, its also about taking responsibility for making 'your area' lively and interesting. For example if you were the Video Host, you'd not only be responsible for culling illegal or inappropriate stuff, but also sourcing and uploading content, as well as commenting on other uploads.

  This way you get to be a Host for an area that you are actually interested in. So, don't offer to be a Blog Host if you don't blog. Or a Photo Host if you never look at the photos...

  Here's what I'm looking for:

  BLOG HOSTS : reading blogs, editing or removing inappropriate ones, 'featuring' the best ones. (2 hosts needed)

  VIDEO HOST : watching and commenting on videos, uploading cool videos, dumping stuff we don't want on the site

  PHOTO HOST : same as the Video Host but for photos...

  Q&A HOST looking after the 'Answers' module, answering questions, deleting stupid questions and comments

  QUIZ HOST  preparing a weekly quiz and getting it setup and running

  FORUM HOSTS reading through the forum discussions and culling /editing anything that breaks site guidelines, answering questions, helping out  (2 Hosts)

  GROUP HOSTS a host for each group - both for the existing Lore Group and new groups that people might like to suggest. Bear in mind if you suggest a group you might end up getting the job of looking after it!

  OK, that should be enough for now 

  What do I expect of each host. Here's the checklist

  • You need to either have English as your first language or be a confident English speaker.
  • You need to be on this site daily
  • You need to be committed to not vanishing on 11.11.11 (even though I expect people to be around less for a while...)
  • You need to be contactable via the site email (i.e your settings must not block email from me)
  • You need to be friendly, positive and helpful - rather than someone who gets his kicks from 'being on the staff'
  • You need to accept that being a site host is a responsibility, a privilege that can not only be given, but taken away

  There will be a special private Group for Site Hosts, where we can talk aver any issues. You'll obviously need to join and participate there!
