The Character Build Showcase: The Treasure Hunter

  • We're back with the first Character Build Showcase of the new year, and something of special treat

The featured build is The Treasure Hunter by beancounter - but we have the bonus of a fantastic video from TZ to complement the text. Here is the video:

New guy Ben introduces the build for us

The name says it all. The Treasure Hunter has one goal, get rich or die trying. This isn't your usual overpowered combat specialist. The Treasure Hunter has a unique gameplay style with his sneaky assassinations and shield bashing combat tactics. He often uses a torch to both block and set the enemy on fire to increase melee damage.

This build is one of the few that uses no crafting but never has a shortage of gold. Expect to spend all of your time looting dungeons, not bent over a crafting bench.

And a bit of introduction from beancounter

Part Thief and part warrior the treasure hunter seeks his fortune adventuring.  Whether searching for buried treasure in an undead infested crypt or hunting down a rare magical artifact the Treasure Hunter will always find an incredible amount of loot.

For the Treasure Hunter, nothing is more exciting than finding the motherload!    Some characters seek power.  Some seek fame.  But the treasure hunter seeks gold, gems, jewels and magical items!

We all know the most powerful items in Skyrim are crafted.  And we all know the easiest way to get rich is to craft.  Grind out tons of potions or enchanted magic daggers.  However, that is not very rewarding, exciting or fun.  This Treasure Hunter has no crafting skills to grind.

This character is built around finding the most loot possible.  He should be out and about exploring, questing and looting!

Looks like a cool build - I might give this one a spin myself! And big thanks to TZ for the video too...

I think you're misreading something. The initial test was with fireball, the second was with firebolt. It does around 1.5 extra damage on master (3 damage by default) on a firebolt. With some math we can say that my fireballs flame effect (with augmented ...  more

Is the burning damage a fixed number Nik? Or is burning damage a percentage of the initial attack, think I read this somewhere...
It doesn't matter overall, it's still piddly damage...
Still, an axe with the bleed perks and then enchanted with...  more

    Correct Ben.
The notion that "targets on fire take extra damage" just means that targets on fire take a small amount of damage from being on fire.

Damage is tested on master difficulty, I forgot to set it back to adept.
Torch bashes will do the same amount of damage regardless.

    1 torch bash: 1.68 damage
5 consecutive torch bashes: 8.4 damage (1.68 per hit)

    Now,...  more

I guess repeated torch bashes would do more damage the more hits you do?

I think it works just like the bleed effect, it's damage over time, which stacks. That's why alternating flames will seem like a huge increase in damage, you simply have more "bleed" effects stacked. But I can check to make sure. I'll also take a look in ...  more

Ben, even I knew fire damage didn't increase melee damage, I thought everyone else did too O.o

Fire damage doesn't increase melee damage. The effect works much like bleed does, the effect for a firebolt (with augmented 1/2, not sure if this affects it) is 3 damage total. I imagine if I took I look in the creation kit I could find exact values like ...  more
