White River Watch, Joe's Dungeon Guide Part 10

  • Dungeon: White River Watch

     Set-Up:

    • Melee: Steel Battleaxe of Bitter Cold
    • Magic School: Conjuration
    • Ranged: Ancient Nord Bow of Bitter Cold
    • Armor: Steel Imperial Gauntlets(Fine), Steel Cuffed Boots(Fine), Steel Armor (Fine), Imperial Officer's Helmet, Silver Ring(+24 Magicka), Amulet on Kynareth (+10 Stamina)
    • Companion: Faendal: Iron Set, Orcish Battleaxe of Torpor(+15 Stamina Damage), Imperial Bow with Iron Arrows

    First Thoughts:

    • This is one of my favorite "dungeons" in Skyrim!
    • I made a RP character based on one of the NPC's located here.
    • Filled with bandits with a named boss at the end.
    • This "dungeon" is extremely well done, and has its own story.

Note1: The Orcish Battleaxe always has 32 base damage, in Movarth's Lair I
       thought it had 31, sorry.
Note2: From now on, chests found in the area around the entrance will be labeled
as Chest1-(letter) and will not include an "Affected" section.
Note3: If you're using my handicap system don't forget to use the cooking pot at
       the beginning of this "dungeon."

     Play-By-Play:

    • Well after riding back to Whiterun to cure my Sanguine Vampiris(precursor to Vampirism) I looked at my map and saw that I had not cleared this "dungeon" yet, so here we are.
    • At the entrance is a small bandit camp containing two low-level bandits and a chest.
    • After cooking up some Venison, Beef, and Veggetable stews along with an Elswyr Fondue I'll head in.
    • Walking in you're greeted by the "watchman," Ulfr the Blind; my favorite NPC
    • When he asks if you are Rodulf, I say yes, otherwise two bandits will spawn and all three of them will attack.
    • Ulfr has a book sitting on the table in front of him, but there's something "special" about it. (I won't spoil it for you)
    • After snatching up the book it's time to delve deeper.
    • Going farther into the "dungeon" I overheard two bandits plotting to kill both Hajvarr and his uncle (Ulfr the Blind).
    • I ended up pulling three bandits instead of two, one of them is an outlaw here, so watch out.
    • I continue on finding a chest hidden near the walkway.
    • The next room I overheard two bandits talking about taming the wolf.
    • The wolf can be used against these bandits by either shooting the door to its cage, pulling the chain without alerting the bandits, or picking the lock.
    • I end up shooting the door to pull the bandits closer as this wolf tends to glitch.
    • The wolf is killed in the battle, but distracts the bandits long enough for me to take two of them down, two more to go.
    • Only one left, Faendal and I charge up the path after him with our battleaxes ready to tear into his flesh.
    • I summon Stains just to finish the Outlaw off.
    • There is a bandit in the hanging cage, but he isn't worth the risk of falling to my death.
    • There's a light at the end of the tunnel leading to White River Overlook, and Hajvarr Iron-Hand.
    • Coming out, this boss can be very difficult due to his ability to one-shot, but by going into sneak before entering his "zone" you can get the jump on him.
    • I immediatly summon Stains, and fire off an arrow to get the sneak attack and force him to draw his bow.
    • While he is stunned, Stains and I rush in and I spam my power attack to keep him stunlocked.
    • If you kill him too close to the edge he can fall off and you have to follow him all the way down, so be careful.

    Thanks :)
It keeps me on my toes, Part 1 has my list of handicaps that I use for this character. I've put up Part 11.

    Just noticed this:
If you don't engage Ulfr it will still mark this area as cleared
