Valtheim Towers, Joe's Dungeon Guide Part 5

  •  Dungeon: Valtheim Keep

     Set-Up:

    • Melee: Steel Battleaxe of Bitter Cold
    • Magic School: Conjuration
    • Ranged: Ancient Nord Bow of Bitter Cold with Steel Arrows
    • Armor: Iron Boots(Fine), Iron Helmet(Fine), Steel Armor(Fine), Steel Imperial Gauntlets(Fine)
    • Companion: Faendal: Imperial Light Armor, Iron Helmet, Iron Boots, Iron Gauntlets, Ancient Nord Greatsword, Hunting Bow with Iron Arrows

     First Thoughts:

    • This area is completely open, so I don't expect any sort of trend here and there isn't much to say about it other than it is assigned to you by the innkeeper(Whiterun).
    • I believe there is a Bandit Chief here along with a Thug, so lower levels should be cautious.

Note1: The bandit in front of the first tower will talk to you, giving you a chance to increase your speech skill.

Note2: Sometimes "Intimidate" will still remove 200 Septims

Note3: The 200 Septims cannot be retreived from the bandit's corpse.

Note4: On the map, this location is labled "Valtheim Towers" not "Valtheim Keep"

     Play-By-Play:

    • Upon exiting the inn a dragon attacked Whiterun, I managed to survive and keep most of the city alive. Of course, now, there's a huge skeleton in the middle of Whiterun.
    •  Up the path from the towers is the Ritual Stone, in case you were missing that one.
    • On the way to the towers I found a group of Pit Wolves munching on a body, the note found will unlock Cragslane Cavern on your map.
    • Upon my arrival I've found that the Bandits are "Outlaws" making them a little tougher for my character. I've killed two of them now, but my range skill is really lacking.... Taking a while.
    • Three down, and right when he was about to kill Faendal.
    • The boss was a bit of a challenge at my level, but once he was distracted it was a piece of cake.
    • The chest in the first tower has a trap, but it's easily avoided or you can disarm it.
    • Going across the bridge now, there's a bandit shooting at me from the opposite shore.
    • Killed him and found an alchemy table along with a chest.
    • Upstairs I found another chest(bigger with iron bands) and a Skillbook.
    • On the top level I found an enchanted bow.

     Chest/Bosses:

      Chest1:

    • Difficulty: Unlocked (with trap, Apprentice)
    • Loot: Gold(59), Potion of Healing
    • Affected: No

      Chest2:

    • Difficulty: Novice
    • Loot: Gold(50), Gold Ingot, Potion of Minor Healing, Scroll of Call to Arms, Steel Nordic Gauntlets, Iron Arrow(7)
    • Affected: No

      Chest3:

    • Difficulty: Unlocked
    • Loot: Hide Shield, Gold(66), Steel Battleaxe of Embers, Orcish Sword
    • Affected: Maybe? My battleaxe might have caused it to trend.

      Boss Battle:

    • Boss: Bandit Chief
    • Weapon:Warhammer
    • Playstyle: Steel Battleaxe of Bitter Cold with Conjure Familiar
    • Loot: Steel Warhammer, Gold(52), Banded Iron Armor, Iron Helmet, Iron Boots, Iron Gauntlets, Steel dagger
    • Affected: No

     Noteable Items/Locations:

    • Standing Stone: Ritual Stone: Located South-West of the Keep Towers
    • Note: Small Note: Located on Pit Wolves Bandit: Unlocks Cragsbane Cavern
    • Skillbook: The Black Arrow Volume Two: Archery
    • Weapon: Blessed Hunting Bow: Found on the top level, upon revisiting on another character the bow was different so I'm assuming this scales with level and has a random enchantment.

I'm not sure, I've only played below master on my first two characters, I'll test it out on a different character.

I always use Faendal, my main still uses him haha.
I really like this place too, I might go as far to say that it's my favorite location. I got her to talk to me once, the rest of the time she just attacks. Maybe I need to approach with my weapon sheathed?
