Mod Ideas

  • I can't wait until the Creation Kit comes out. Already there are great mods for Skyrim but in the future I am hoping that it will be even better. Oblivion was fun enough the first three or four times around playing the different classes but the mods opened up so many new things and overall made it amazing. Here are some ideas that have been floating around my head.

    1. Extended Ranger Mod

    A. New Armor / Weapon Sets

The sleeveless obsession with Skyrim light armors gets annoying. Sure for a Barbarian type of character it's great. But when it's snowing outside and even the fur armor is without sleeves it's kind of surprising. I can't take my Ranger seriously when it looks like he's auditioning for Skyrim Gladiators or getting ready for a Bodybuilding event. It isn't practical, ruins the immersion and looks silly. I also want to create a few Bosmeri armors that reflect Valenwood and their way of life. Enchantments would include bonuses to archery, sneak, restoration and or one handed weapons.

    B. Animal Companion

Every Druid and or Ranger archetype has to have at least one animal companion. Even if it's overdone still it's kind of a required trope. Besides that it's very helpful to have a loyal follower who transcends the "loner" feel of most Rangers and can help out in melee. For a class that is touted as master of the wilderness it needs to be done.

    C. New Spells / Perks

A few of the spells in Skyrim are "canon" with a Ranger but there needs to be a few more. Magic isn't widely used with the archetype but it's entirely possible especially with the mystic and natural background so it can be done. Spells that use the environment like undergrowth slowing down or paralyzing a target, silent movement when in the wilderness, armor boosts and enchantment spells that  change the attributes of arrows should be made available.I have an idea for a spell called "tracking" which is pretty much a buffed version of detect life. It uses both mana and stamina, delays the regeneration but allows for a longer radius of detection for a longer time.

The latter would be possible for all ranged classes; I don't know whether they would be spells, temporary enchantments or a hybrid of both. A single shot arrow that gives 100% critical hit chance, fast reload for 60 seconds, high level seeker arrow that automatically hits a target if it's within range, penetration arrow, etc.

As for perks I also have a few more ideas. Boosts to stamina while in the wilderness, multiple arrows (being shot at the same time), animal companion tree, calming influence with all animals, increased stealth (camouflage) and survival perks (alchemy, ammunition, etc. without purchasing or using a lab and vendor)

    D. New Quests

It doesn't need a big storyline but it would give some structure to the roleplaying experience. Protecting innocents, killing certain enemies in a certain area, scouting for the Stormcloaks & Legion and patrolling would be the majority of the quest types.

    ______

Again these are just some rough ideas so feel free to contribute. Hopefully we will see these things in the future. The idea is to not only make the Ranger more powerful (Not overpowered.) but more interesting.
