Chapter 1: Pilot Story

  • Pilot Story

The slight breeze moved through the The Rift, and the sun was slightly blocked by the clouds. Usually experiencing warm summers after the winter months, but this winter had been especially cruel and the spring time would not be a difference. The seasons had been unrelenting, the prior summer had been one of the hottest in a lifetime combined with no rainfall The Rift had a food shortage. The Jarl had removed taxes on imported food and at least the city of Riften and survived with no deaths. Even the Orcs of Largashbur has come for supplies of the Jarl to feed their people.

Coughing the pair of Argonians moved through the busy central market of Riften, muttering between themselves moving towards the docks. One of the Argonians, the younger of the pair had a red coloration overlaying dark black scales with a mixture of red and black feathers from the top of this head. Some horns protruded from his jaw, unlike the horns of his companion. The other Argonian had a pair of long horns from his head to go along with his dark green scales. They wore simple hide armor had each had an iron sword at their belts, the green had an iron shield slung across his back.

Stooping he dropped a coin into the hands of an old woman near the Scorched Hammer. The woman nodded gratefully and collected the coin, "Blessing of Mara upon you."

"And to you." replied the Argonian, turning to his brother "My deed for the day is done."

"Azeel, we are already short on septims. Don't waste them on a dying old woman!"

Azeel shook his head, "Dear brother, there is more to life than gold. The work of mercenary takes you all over Tamriel! We are in Skyrim for the first time now, their petty civil war may make our work invaluable to the right buyer."

Azeel followed his brother down the boardwalk to the fishery, "Utadeek, wouldn't the inn or the Jarl be a better place to start than the fishery?"

"Azeel." Utadeek said. "I think there's more than fishing happening down on the docks."

Malachi Theod walked past the Merryfair Farm on his way to the gates of Riften. Moving towards the pair of guards at the gate, Malachi calls out "Hello! How are you Delvin?"

"Malachi, how was the hunt this week? Hopefully you'll make some money!"

"Yeah hopefully the butcher will'll buy."

The main road of Riften was barren, the city received very little commerce and travelers due to its poor reputation with the Thieves Guild beneath the city. Malachi shook his head and pushed his bow over his head, he re-positioned his game bug to his front, a safety measure. Crossing the bridge and an entrance to the Bee and Bard he reached into the bag to grab the cuts.

"Hello, Marise, how is business?" Malachi asked with a smile.

"Malachi, business is as usalle in this rat hole of a city! Seven pounds of venison, I'll give you 14 septims." Was her reply going straight into business. Marise had very little care for Malachi, the monk.

"Sounds good Marise." He said with a smile as he gratefully accepted the coins.

He bothered many people in the city, he never stole and looted anything. When Belrand dropped is coin purse with over 50 septims in it, he returned it to the smith. Marise laid the cuts out on the rack, "TEN SEPTIMS A CUT!"
