Euphoria or Hype?

  • We have all been excited in the past only to be disappointed.

Now don’t jump the gun; I am not implying that Skyrim will be one of those games!

With the clock ticking down, with every hour of excitement comes a few minutes of doubt. I am an optimist; especially so with this game. I have only ever played Oblivion under the Elder Scroll Series. After playing Oblivion I had a wish that there would be a sequel to it, and sure enough, it happens 5 years later.

I am a RPG’r who is more interested in the environments, mannerisms of people, and even the economy over slaying dragons or what have you. Seeing all the reviews, screenshots, and all the other detailed glamour on this site and other various sites assures me that Skyrim will be just that to fit all our gaming needs.

So what is there to cry about? The last month involved ticking off the days on my calendar; with nothing else being important to me. I grew up teaching myself not to be overconfident about anything in life as disappointments like to sneak up on us.

So will I be snuck up on by Bethesda?

Will Skyrim have glitches of Dragons heads turning 360 degrees?

Will there be floating snow or trees you can walk through?

Will there be lag that causes your life bar to completely drain out as you loaded a dungeon only to find out you got mauled when you enter?

Or will the side quests be so redundant that they are better off ignored?

Am I the only one feeling some doubt mixed with this euphoria; or is there a whole culture like myself with this pain mixed with pleasure that can make this justifiable?

Regardless, I have my dragon fingers crossed.

I have set up two entire days once its released immediately (11th and the 12th) with no distractions so that I can sink myself into this masterpiece—or so it appears to be, we shall see.

Doubting your euphoria is a good thing.  All the hype surrounding this game isn't entirely about the game; it's the idea of what a a good RPG should be.
An RPG should be about escapism - getting lost in a virtual reality.  We all wish that hardware...  more
