Mason, you put up the wrong image for the Fearmonger; it's supposed to be this.

First let me say, I realize I am out of my league here, but as a newer member, who has only done 2 event builds. 1 that only got 15 likes and honestly was shit, and my latest one sitting at 11, however I believe is a better build in every way. With that being said, I "lurked" for well over a year before ever making an account. From Mason's Sentinels, to Vazgen's The Trebbite Monk, to all the other amazing builds and builders in this rank. As someone "new" to the site and more specifically presenting my builds, the idea of having somewhere to watch the top guys work through their thought process would be amazing. Like it was said us newer guys could learn a lot by just reading that conversation. If this post is only meant for those with legendary builds than I am sincerely sorry.

My main thought as to why I want to be a better builder, is simple. Most of you guys have provided me with hours upon hours of entertainment, and I just feel like it is time I gave something back..

Hey, Domanik. This discussion is mainly for those who have build on Legendary rank. If you want to improve your builds, just drop by a appropriate discussion depending on what ranks your builds hold. You will receive help and advice there.

Thanks for featuring the Loup-Garou, Mason. Much appreciated, amigo!

Man, I forgot about hr Blackguard. That's a classic right there ... Though not as classic as your Blackguard, eh?

@Domanik, I think this thread is a good place to chat about how we design our builds. Truth be told, it's a very different process for each of us, and for me at least, it tends to be too nebulous to really nail down into a simple structure. One thing that I will say is that you need to look for cohesion. If you discuss roleplay at all, does it inform the gameplay? Does the gameplay reconcile with the character's backstory? Does the gear make sense, both functionally and thematically? Is the artwork consistent and in keeping with the character concept? These are the overarching questions to ask yourself as you work. While working on each specific component, there are more specialized things to look at: Are the special moves interesting, unique, and effective? Do the feel special? Are they too complex to remember or too convoluted to consistently pull off in mid-battle? How many potion recipes is too many? Does reaching my proposed "max level" require investing in additional skills?

For most people here — and probably you as well — we have a good grasp of how Skyrim works. The combat, the leveling, the balance, etc. So we can theorycraft very efficiently and minimize testing/replaying characters. But even still, don't be afraid to totally rewrite a build if you discover something better, or that one of your ideas didn't quite work out. I've actually just had an idea that fundamentally changes the nature of my next build plan, so now it's "back to the drawing board" for me. But it's exciting stuff, because I'm not trying to consider what I can do to strengthen the new idea, in terms of supplementary mechanics, backstory, gear selection, skillset, etc.

It's all about creativity and having fun! Don't let it be a chore, or you're doing it for the wrong reasons.

Hi Domanik, actually this discussion isn't just for people who have made a legendary build...

One of the problems in this group is that advice on making builds (pages and pages of it) wrote by some of the best builders here is often lost among individual build pages so each of these rank threads should slowly become more useful as people comment and launch revamps.

Like Teccam said below there isn't just one way of making a build and everyone has different styles. I think if you took 8 'master' builders and got them to go do a full edit on each others builds none of them would be happy with the result because the unique style of each builder would be lost.

I'm personally a big believer in watching for that initial impact a build has when it first lands in the group. Good builds will get this wave of comments/likes that steadily rise and then settle within the first few days of posting, if that first splash isn't big enough then the build is probably doomed to settle down in the lower ranks.

So basically if you want to make a legendary build you have to make sure the build is ready for legendary from day 1. Posting a build with the minimum requirements to clear the bloodworks and then trying to steadily improve it all the way to legendary won't cut it...its like whipping a dead horse.

Most people will only read a build once. So you need to make sure its shit hot from the very beginning...

I think that may be one of my problems. I post a build thinking it's great then an hour or so later I come up with something that would be bad ass, but by that time my build has 300+ views and 10 likes. That's something I can work on. My other problem apparently is the artwork I use for my builds. I am looking forward to seeing what I can do with some of my ideas. I just need to absorb feed back and apply it, to improve things, and hopefully have less that would need improving in future builds.

Two builds in the mythic discussion and one in legendary. Its almost as if Teccam paid us off or something... :D
