Welcome, Tippers and Trickers, to the Tips & Tricks Field Test! In this all-new section developed by Teccam and I, you will be given a small challenge with a few restrictions. Then it’s up to you to decide how best to complete it, and post your methods here!

First up – the Armored Stealth challenge.

Objective: Reach the treasure room in the Pinewatch dungeon without being spotted on at least Adept difficulty.

    Restrictions:

    • You wear any heavy armor of your choice.
    • You cannot use the Muffle or Invisibiity spells.
    • You must not be using the Steed Stone or Conditioning perk.

    When you’re done, post up

    • The time it took you, from when you entered the underground ruin
    • Any methods you used
    • Any particular parts you had difficulty with.

Remember to keep it informative – the purpose of the Field Test is for people to discover new and creative ways of doing things and sharing them with the community!

    Testers:

    Nelaf: 11 minutes, 43 seconds

Wore a full suit of Daedric Armor and used Silent Roll with his Sneak skill of 90 to move through the dungeon without being detected. The Light Foot perk was used to avoid setting off traps. Difficulty was encountered around the high concentration of bandits and bone alarm traps near the leader's room.

    Vazgen: 27 minutes, 48 seconds

While Vazgen did have a significantly longer time than Nelaf, he did it wearing a full set of Banded Iron Armor with just 20 Sneak and 1 rank in Stealth. Using a combination of quick thinking, careful sneaking, and using arrows to move enemies out of position, he managed to clear the entire dungeon without and kills or being spotted. He wrote a detailed writeup of his run - read it here!

    Ponty: 13 minutes, 57 seconds

For my run, I was level 7 with 15 Sneak wearing a full set of unenchanted Iron armor. I used a Calm staff I had found in my travels, as well as the unique Gandor's Staff of Charming from Crystaldrift Cave. I mostly made a bit of noise from movement to draw enemies out of position, and then sneak past when their backs were turned. Difficult to sneak by situations I'd either use my Calm staff if it was a lone enemy, or the Frenzy staff on groups. Something I did notice is that Gandor's Staff of Charming makes very little noise - I'll look into that later!

Is there a restriction on muffle enchanted equipment and/or sneak skill level and perks?

I can see the ebony mail being very used in this contest.

I done this earlier....forgot to post though...I actually done this and took time out of day to do so, unlike other T&T members! *tut*

    I used: Full Daedric Armor

Time: 11 mins and approx. 43 seconds.

    Level: 29

I used the Light Foot Perk to avoid the pressure pads/traps in the treasure room and the wood log ledge, and Silent Roll, I silently rolled through most of it, and didn't kill anyone, to help my time.

I did find the bit difficult with the room where Rigel Strong Arm

is. Where there were 3/4 bandits there along in the next room, plus all those bone alarm traps, in the room adjacent to Rigel.

I must admit I had 90 Stealth, so it was easier than I thought.

Not at all! Keep in mind the point of this isn't to go the boring and obvious method though

By 'challenge' I mean it's something somewhat difficult. This isn't about winning or losing, it's about sharing your methods of completing it with others!
