Character Building Event: Evolution

Greetings fellow bloggers! Albino, ShinJin, Elysium and of course me, your Melon Lord, are excited to present you the sixth Character Building Event, Evolution! Sit back, relax and keep an open mind. This time we have decided to go with the most notorious things among the character building community. Evolution is all about making event builds that utilize glitches, exploits and / or the infamous mods. Yes, you've read it right: MODS! The idea is very simple. Take a basic gameplay style like a Warrior, an Assassin or a Mage and use at least one of those three things to push its limits, transform it into something new, evolve it! Before you guys pick up your pitchforks and light your torches, know this. Mods that fundamentally change the way gameplay works are forbidden from this event. For example, mods that overhaul the existing perks, like SkyRe, are not allowed. We want you guys to use mods that add new things, spells or experiences to what Skyrim already has to offer. A good example of this is Frostfall. Imagine playing a Scout / Ranger character with Frostfall installed that rarely visits holds and hunts the wildlife to survive in Skyrim's harsh weather. This is what we're going for. You want more ideas? What do you think of a Thief using the Infinite Shadow Stone Glitch? Or an Assassin that kills only with modded Telekinesis? Or a Bard that mimics singing Thu'ums through 100% Shout Cooldown Reduction? In order to make things more understandable for console players, all event builds that use mods will need to have a separate section at the beginning of the presentation that thoroughly describes what the mods do and how they're used in the character's gameplay. Unfortunately we don't have any builds that use mods to show you. This event intends to change that. We can however give examples of builds that evolved simple playstyles by using glitches and exploits.

    • The Frost Nymph evolved the Healer class by using Blizzard and Equilibrium Glitches.

    Tips

I highly encourage everyone who participates in this event to pay a visit to The Modder's Conclave and The Tips and Tricks Group. They're great places to start researching things and the hosts there are more than happy to help you. With this out of the way, I'm going to give you some tips regarding what it means to "evolve" a playstyle...

           ...on Glitches and Exploits

I will refer to my Frost Nymph as an example. The Frost Nymph is a Healer character build that makes heavy use of the Potent Blizzard Glitch and the Potent Equilibrium Glitch. The first glitch amplifies Blizzard's damage output by a lot. This is very useful when playing a Healer. It gives the possibility of creating the ultimate defense (or the perfect offense) when followers are one blow away from death and there are multiple hostile npcs around. The second glitch increases the Health-to-Magicka converted points from Equilibrium. Using spells like Grand Healing or Wards to protect followers consumes a lot of Magicka. That said, although it is dangerous, casting the enhanced version of Equilibrium will provide enough Magicka to better sustain followers and therefore finish fights faster. If you plan on making a build that uses glitches and exploits, keep one thing in mind: balance. If the chosen glitches and exploits overpower the character, think of ways to counteract this. For example, if you make an assassin with the Infinite Shadow Stone glitch, then invest very few points in Health. This way the character can do a lot of damage through invisibility but just as easily die if detected.

           ...on Mods

As I've said before, I want participants to use mods that add to what Skyrim already has to offer. This can be a bit confusing so I'm going to give examples of mods that fit the event's theme.

    • Familiar Faces - This mod lets you make a copy of your character, skills & shouts included, and then use it as a follower in the game. This is perfect for playing an illusionist Mage who can "conjure" copies of itself to fight in battle.
    • Dead Thrall on Anything - This mod lets you use Dead Thrall on any kind of npc. It's ideal for a Necromancer.
    • Elemental Arrows - This mod lets you craft a wide range of enchanted arrows. A Witchhunter can make good use of this.
    • Master of Disguise - This mod allows you to blend in and become temporarily friendly with certain hostile npc factions. If your character wears forsworn armor, it won't be attacked by Forsworn npcs. It's perfect for a Thief or an Assassin character.
    • Frostfall and other survival mods. These mods make your character susceptible to Skyrim's weather: death by hypothermia and other fatalities. They're ideal for a Hunter character.

    Rules and Requirements

    • All the participants must send a friend request to Albino, ShinJin, Elysium and me. This way it will be much easier to inform everyone of any potentially major event updates.
    • We strongly encourage you to watch the video above!
    • All event builds that use mods must have a section at the beginning of the presentation describing what the mod does and how it mixes with the character's gameplay.
    • Mods that fundamentally change the way gameplay works are forbidden from the event. A good example of this is SkyRe.
    • Only mods that add new things to the way Skyrim works are allowed. A good example of this is Frostfall.
    • Completed character builds must be posted between the 11-th of May, 12:00 AM EST and 18-th  of May, 12:00 AM EST. -> Update: The new interval is  between the 18-th of May, 12:00 AM EST and 25-th of May, 12:00 AM EST.
    • Event builds must have an event rank tag and use the 'Event:Evolution' tag. All other optional tags can be applied.
    • Each participant must specify when signing up for the event the basic playstyle of the character from the links above and the glitches, exploits and mods used to evolve it.

If you need tips or advice with your character build, either Albino, ShinJin, Elysium or myself will do our best to point you in the right direction. That does not mean we will write it for you. Feel free to message us if you need assistance.

    Confirmed Participants

There are bound to be similar builds or even the same inspirations. Don't be afraid to post your build in fear of it looking like a rip-off. We ask nicely that you only put your name down if you are 100% sure that you are willing to put in the effort! Should you happen to feel uninterested or cannot think of anything between now and the submission deadline, please comment below and we will remove your name from the list.

    Event Update - 10th of April 2015

Gather around folks because we have a big update to make for Evolution. Staying true to the idea behind the event, we've decided to bring all this up a notch and allow people to enter with build updates. Simply put we allow you to take a character build of your own and update it, "evolve it", using mods, glitches or exploits. The build update needs to be Significant and the new build must respect Evolution's rules! All updated builds will keep their "Character Build: <Insert Name Here>" prefix but will receive the tag "Event:Evolution", thus becoming a part of the event. The updated builds will use the normal rank system, not the event one. Two more things: we've decided to remove the level requirements for event builds and the time interval in which participants can post their work is now shifted by one week: 18th of May at 12:00 AM EST and 25th of May, 2015, at 12:00 AM EST.

    NOTICE!

This event has closed as of the 25th of May at 12:00 AM EST.

Any submitted build after this point will not be included in this event or be listed among the other participants that took part.

Could you temporarily remove my name formt he list? I'm still searching for more mods. Or you could keep it there and update it if I find one I like.

Tae, are you going to use mods that are compatible with Frostfall too?  I mean like Real Shelter.

Please remove me, I am currently in a state of conflict of wether to do the Spellsword or do an Evolved Mesmer Depending on the amount of copies I can make, I might do the Mesmer

It changes the way existing spells work way too much.

I'm not a judge but I would assume just changing textures is fine
