I'm stuck on Part 17 of Agents of the Queen. In this part, the gang arrives at Skywatch, where the Defiance Festival has just begun, like in ESO. However, in this part, they decide to relax for a while, and Elereth convinces Ardolan to shapeshift into his cursed form again via the ring Curinure gave him, basically to cheer the Bosmer up a bit (Elereth thinks 'Synia' is really hot, for the record. She's bisexual, as hinted at earlier in AotQ). But, after the transformation is complete and Ardolan becomes Synia for a while, I don't know where to take things. I know Ardolan will eventually go back to normal, but I also know he'll spend time under the curse to make Elereth happy. I want a 'breather' part, or maybe even two, seeing as how I plan the adaptation of the Skywatch quest to be pretty intense. Thoughts?

I don't know much bout ESO but a breather episode setup I have in my bag of writing is the campfire scene. Just friends sitting around a campfire and talking about stuff like what they think of the story (POV stuff) or more backstory exposition.

I've a good few breather chapters. I find they are great to allow the reader a chance to absorb mainline events before starting a rollercoaster sequence of chapters.

Some things you could do are...

Let them go hunting... Nothing major, find a few rabbits or a deer. Bit of banter between them.

Maybe have a casual training session? Again banter and a few moves. Maybe someone could teach a special skill to another char.

What about their back grounds? You could have them talk about how they met or their past experiances in the world. A great way to lay out their origins.

Maybe one of them could tell a story and have teh other chars interact with them.

I won't just post them here but if you want I could link a few of my breather chapters for you to look at. If you want me to then all I ask is don't worry about giving them likes. If you like them then by all means do so but you don't have to. That's not why I'm offering to help.

Just howl if you want a few linked here.

Shame you're not getting the buzz out of your story Will. Remember not everyone finishes their stories off. Many a story is in parts.

Is it the writing or is the story not capturing your interest? If its just the story itself there are a good few things you could do to change it.

I don't really know, I think it's probably the story but it's far too late to change anything major as I've got everything planned out for the end - there're only about three more chapters to go anyway so I'll have finished it soon

What I am looking forward to, however, is the next series - The Order of the Black Mane, which I've probably spent about enough time repeatedly name-dropping and should really start writing the damn thing!

How do you think magic works in TES or rather, how does magic work in YOUR canon of the TES series?

Well I don't want to spoil anything but a certain member on this site, with whom I agree to a certain extent on this question; the to an extent makes debates great, is planning on writing a story based on exactly this. It will basically portray his vision of magic in quite a unique way. I've had the chance to read a bit and all I can say is that it's fantastic.

    MAGIC!

He took a deep breath. Yes, he felt it once, back when... The desire to conrol his emotions, to change things. To be in charge of his fate. How can one control his fear and anger? You aim it at something. He reached into himself with his mind, to a place where was that bright shining star, piece of Aetherius itself, while also reaching out, plunging his hands into the currents of Magicka around him, connecting the two.

The moment he connected those two points, he felt energy gathering and he reached out with hands of mind, trying to grab those items in front of him. Then it erupted. He opened his eyes and saw how all three objects were pushed by an invisible force away from him, hurled on the wall. The broom snapped in the middle, the bottle shattered to thousand pieces. He blinked several times.

It's always interesting to read other members portrayal on how certain things work. Magic is a prime example; all too often in game we take mechanics at face value. To see such things pulled apart and recreated, redefined so they actualy fit within the world of TES is one of those moments when stories come to life.

I look forwards to your piece with a vested interest.

My magic is more or less inspired by the TES Novels, where it is portrayed how certain non-mage casts a spell. He reaches into himself, to tap on the Magicka in himself to cast some kind of light spell. I'm merely expanding on it, that the process of casting requires the mage to reach into himself, to touch the piece of Aetherius while also his mind reaches out to the currents of magicka - streams if you want. Magicka gives everything life, properties, so there are multiple streams, with different properties and the mage had to find the right one and figure out how to tap into it. I treat magic and Magicka like something living and organic, becausr that's what it is. Lore supports that Magicka is actually very similar to the Force. So yeah, that's my vision.
