This is a very refreshing play style. I really like the speech and lockpicking, since they rarely get any attention. Great build.

    Maybe you're bugged? From Wiki:

Must have completed Taking Care of Business, have received yourThieves Guild Armor from Tonelia and must have talked to both Delvin and Vex.

    From UESP:

    • You must be a member of the Thieves Guild to do this quest.
    • You need to ask Delvin about odd jobs first.

    So that's what that does

Did you do much stealing in cities? What did you do when you got caught?

I did a lot of stealing there. Alchemist shops are always a good place to start. When I did get caught I either bribed the guard or paid the fine, but I'd always get my stolen gold/possessions back straight away afterwards.

I started out with illusion and atronach kills as fair game, but realized there was temptation just to use them to kill enemies to get their loot rather than using them as a distraction. At about level 15/20 I stopped looting from any enemies that weren't dead when I entered the cave.

Thanks Crybon. I find lockpicking is only useful for the treasure perks which are half way up the tree so it is difficult to put into a build. Speech is actually very useful but hard to level up which puts people off it.
