Character Build: The Squire

I tried playing both with and without Mage Armor: my first build had two more points in the Alteration skill tree (Mage Armor 2/3) and no Merchant and Allure on Speech (plus other minor flaws). After playing it more and more, I realized I could make better use of exploited merchants than Oakflesh, since most of the time a heal is just enough and I couldn't find space for three more skill points. Besides, I didn't want to focus on Alteration on this build, and I try to use it as little as possible.

    Okay.  Well explained reasoning there.

I haven't ever played a no-armor build without the mage armor perks so that would be a new one for me.  Personally I'd still be afraid of the occasional kill-cam or stray arrow before an opponent focuses on your knight instead of you.

I'm currently playing a robe-and heavy boots/gauntlets-wearing shield-block character and I still take quite a bit of damage, even with armor spells active (I don't have any mage armor perks either, but I do have the shield and other heavy armor bits).  Granted I get into the thick of it a little more than your squire is designed for, but my basis right now is still hanging back and flinging spells more than melee.

Just to clarify, I'm not complaining about the build at all.  I think it's very creatively done and has some great roleplaying potential here (you should write a blog about your own personal squire ).

Switch to 0 armor so you can take advantage of the alteration perk that triples the effectiveness of your armor spells

Have you tried supporting your knight with arrows, summons and other spells?

No my build is not designed for that.  He's a mage heavy spellsword/crusader type who eventually moves more into full crusader and full heavy armor.  Part of the roleplaying.  For reference it's the Graveknight of the Divines.

No, I haven't, but it wouldn't fit with the character. If that counts, I once played a necromancer build with max level in conjuration and I used atronachs to help my undead summons, though I feel atronachs are dull sometimes.

    No offense taken. :D

By the way, the follower really makes a big difference: I rarely get into close fights, and if I come across trolls or bandit thugs I prefer runing away. Adjusting the skill build to fit your playstyle is okay, I just feel that keeping it as it is is better for now. Who knows, I might change my mind sooner or later.

About the blog, I'm already new to character guides, let alone blog posts! Jokes aside, I feel I'm not so good at writing creative stories: I'm more of a thesis or essay writer, plus English is not even my native language. Thanks for the tip though, I appreciate it.
