I have found that master vampires tend to be immune to frost magic or have such a high resistance to it that your ice magic is completely useless. That and in my game the slow down effect from ice spells is unnoticeable that a normal bandit can tank several ice spears and still run full speed at me and one shot me with a single power attack

It's ice because that's what the Volikhar were said to use, before Bethesda came along and said they were a big bunch of nobles who can transform.

All they did was omit the powers from gameply (which would have been awkward and a pain to implement anyway). It doesn't invalidate the lore, it just adds to it.

It's just that as far as I knew before Dawnguard the Volikhar weren't just one house of vampires and they couldn't transform. Of course, you can never really say Bethesda invalidated the lore since we'd only ever heard of the Volikhar before Dawnguard, and what we hear or read can be unreliable. It's very clever the way Bethesda does that.

Exactly. Before Dawnguard, the Volkihar didn't even exist in Skyrim. After that, it opens the door for splinters and clans and unknown backstory.

Plus, we only have one source, and who knows, there could be more, and they could either be in hiding, or have been taken out

i almost never play vampires, I have a intense dislike of vampires and that tends to bleed over into my characters. I was asking about ice spells because i was going to play a normal breton and using a spell type that vampires resist is asinine and would get me killed

Well, if you're not going to be a vampire, why not just change the magic too?
