While blocking does slow down heavy armor levelling speed, the shield only absorbs a certain percentage of the damage. The remaining damage that goes through is then mitigated by heavy armor.

There is also the fact that you will not always be quick enough with your shield, or you will be too busy attacking to block. In these cases, the heavy armor takes over.

You don't have to do anything my build suggests, go ahead and make a character who doesn't use shields if that's how you like to play.

How do you justify playing the Dragonborn DLC?

    Spoilers:

In the end you need to help HM, and be a party to the killing of one of the skaal, just to advance the main quest.

That is one problem I have with this game, you can't complete the Thieves Guild quests without becoming sworn to Nocturnal, etc...  I wish they would give you different ways to complete it.

Anyway I love the idea of a knightly Dragonborn stopping Miraak because that would be something that he or she would do.

Maybe they feel guilty and visit shrines and temples often to repent?  I am not sure how to justify it.

At any rate it is a great build and one I am going to do on my next playthrough.

For Dragonborn I think a good way to approach it is to simply never learn the Black Book powers and go straight back to Solstheim at the end of each Apocrypha level. This may seem like a huge waste of many opportunities, but that is the way of things when you are a knight, personal sacrifice for the sake of your ideals.

There is still the problem of justifying the lethal knowledge transfer from Storn. Here are a few factors to consider, one is that Storn freely offers the information, knowing that it is the only way for you to stop Miraak and save many lives. The knight is merely the recipient of information, but the actual transaction was made by Storn. The other thing to think about is that there was never any indication that HM would kill Storn while taking the information, so it comes as a surprise. One way to play this is that, as soon as Storn is grabbed by the tentacles, you should do your best to hack him free from them. This of course does not work, but the idea is that as soon as you discover the nefarious intent, you try your best to save him.

By helping a Daedra, the knight will certainly feel like his honor is not fully intact. It would be good to find an act of pennance. Perhaps after this he decides to leave behind all of his possessions and start over with a set of weak iron arms and armor. Only after serving the people through many radiant quests does he gradually allow himself to upgrade his gear once more. That's one idea, but basically anything involving self sacrifice will do. A hard core purist might consider completely leaving behind the title of knight and the honor code, feeling unworthy to bear that level of respect. It's important to note that defeating Miraak is a highly heroic act that would certainly count as a step toward redemption.

As Tim said, it is based on real world history.
I don't know who you are, but definitely have no insight into the matter... but I have.
Let's be simple. There are two knights: one armed with a sword and a shield, the other is wielding two swords. They are both wearing the same armor, heavy plate so they are equally slow. A bash with that shield and a swing of that sword, and your champion is dead, Monkey. Knights would not dual-wield for it has no protection and they were not enough quick to be efficient with them.

Penitent Crusades are the best crusades.

My character is kind of an arrogant jerk who looks down upon all other's, is that breaking his oath?

Also, you forgot to mention crossbow's, many knight's used them.

If you are an arrogant jerk, then knight is the incorrect profession. The whole point is self-sacrifice and humility, everything a knight does is to serve the Divines and the people of Tamriel.

As for crossbows, knights initially hated them and considered crossbows to be honorless. Eventually, yes, some of them came around and started to use them, but this is a melee build.

Sounds to me like you want to play a fallen knight, someone who uses similar skills and was once a man of honor but then decided to go his own way. Check my Class Variants section for the perk link. You can shuffle some of the perks around to include archery perks if you want to use a crossbow, and as a fallen knight you can have some good fun sniping people with sneak attacks.

I really like this build because I ALWAYS do evil chars so it's a nice change for me. +1

And I'm assuming I can use any heavy armor other than daedric armor and daedric artifacts?? Does the knight follow the "good" daedra (Meridia and azura)? or would that be a break of his oath...

I suppose a Dunmer could consider them valid deities to worship. While there aren't knightly orders in Morrowind as such there are still plenty of warriors who try to maintain an honor code, so you could tweak my concept a little to include that. So it'd probably need to be either a Dunmer or someone who was raised by Dunmer or grew up worshiping good daedra somehow. You'd just have to find a way to justify it in your RP concept, but if you can do that then go for it.

Glad you are enjoying the build!
