Character Build: The Paladin - Anniversary Edition

  • February 6, 2014

I just want to say, Ponty, that your Paladin build was my most fun playthrough by far! My Imperial Paladin, Inri Sejenus, hit end-game around level 40, with some miscellaneous quests I chose to leave alone out of preference. But I will say, with experience now, that the Paladin is probably the best balanced, not-overpowered character archetype, who gets to use lots of magic, melee, AND archery. He was kind of a jack-of-all-trades, HOWEVER, he also did specialize a lot with his proficiency in melee combat.

I can't praise it enough. Well done for creating the concept!

This build looks awesome and a ton of fun! I'm definitely putting my legendary play through on pause and doing this! The game play video was a big factor too.

Wait, how were you able to make a build like this before the game even came out?

Back at the dawn of time, this build was more or less just a list of skills with brief explanations of how they fit in the character. I updated this in December 2011 with perks and screenshots, and again in January 2012 as part of the Hall of Fame thing that never got very far. I then updated in AGAIN back in November 2012 with a more modern build format and Dawnguard stuff - the version you see today.

Love this build! I'm about to have a go at it. Would you recommend any specific shouts for The Paladin, Ponty?

I rarely used shouts on this character but it's always good to have some of the basics you can count on like Unrelenting Force, Whirlwind Sprint, Become Ethereal and Dragonrend. Don't forget that Clear Skies + Storm Call + Auriel's Bow combo move under the Hero of the Divines either

If only I was going down the path of the Hero of the Divines.. :/ For the Crusader of Meridia, would it be completely off-base to replace Conjuration with Destruction? I know for RP purposes it may be a bit odd but overall?

Also, thanks for the great advice!

Instead you could check out the Justicar of Julianos in the paths discussion if you like. Basically the destruction battlemage path.

I can say that this is easily one of my favorite builds on the site. It is probably the simplest in terms of starting and provides for fun - and varying combat. It seems that many builds take a good amount of time to get to the fun part, but this one was fun from the start. I followed your level 20 "skeleton" of perk choices to the letter, and then added perks as i liked them. Absolutely fantastic. I must say that over my time on the site I have always been eyeing this particular build, and i have finally gotten around to doing it. Keep up the great builds Ponty, you are easily one of the most gifted in the group.
