    Gla’iah H’Drice

    Character Name: Gla’iah H’Drice (Glay-eye-ah H-dreese)

Aliases/Nicknames: Ice/Snow Queen, Archmage, Snow Elf

    Sex: Female

    Race: Altmer

Age: While not known widely,  the college knows she is over a century in age.

    Height: 6’2”

    Weight: 180 lbs.

Skin Color: Her skin is pale for an Altmer, being the same shade as an average Nord.

    Scars: None

Eye Color: Her eyes are a marble gray that seem to shine even in little light.

Hair Color: The long hair of hers is a silver-white, matching the shawl that hangs from her shoulders at all times.

Physique: Beneath the robes of hers lies a slender and feminine figure. Some muscle can be seen as she does enjoy some swordplay.

Apparel: She wears custom made robes that are light black with silver trim. There is a piece of cloth that hangs from the back of her waist that goes down to just above her ankles.

Weapons: Though she doesn't carry it with her all the time, prefering to use her magic, Gla’iah does have a simple basket hilt rapier with trace amounts of silver.

Magic: Being archmage, Gla is versed in all the schools of magic but is a master of Destruction magic, specifically ice based spells. She also uses Alteration and Illusion more than the other schools at her disposal.

    ~Character Information~

Place of Birth: Imperial City, Cyrodiil

Religion: She follows the typical religious practices nearly all Altmer abide by but doesn’t shove it down the throats of other people.

    Profession: Archmage, Scholar, Reader

Social Class: As a child back in the heart of the Imperial Empire she was that of high class/nobility. It continued into her early adulthood but she doesn’t carry that with her in Skyrim.

Organizations/Factions: College of Winterhold, College of Whispers (formally)

Education: She was a student at the College of Whispers, enjoying it for a time but after a few years left. Gla’iah knew of the College of Winterhold and headed for as soon as she could.

Favorite Food & Drink: Gla’iah enjoys fish that is freshly caught and Altmer rice and a glass of wine. Anything that is typically associated as seafood she’ll devour.

Backstory: Born to a wealthy family, Gla’iah actually had a simplistic view of the world. Her mother was Altmer and her father was Nord, breaking the typical Aldmeri decorum. Despite her Nordic blood Gla’iah had a natural knack for magic. Her mother helped her little treasure control her magical prowess as having a room flash freeze twice a month made things rather chilly at home.

By the time she was 30 Gla entered the College of Whispers. For a time she was happy, the money her family sent them greased the wheels of the codgers only sweetened the deal. It was after her first year that she had an incling that knowledge was worth keeping instead of sharing.

Knowledge was the currency of the Whispers, the more you knew the more cards were in your hands. And it turned out Gla’iah held a lot of them. She was able to manipulate many of the mages and take their secrets. A skill that the would make her mother proud, the Aldmeri Dominion proud. Before she knew it H’Drice held more information than the head mage.

It took two more years for her to realise that the College was dull. The secrets were menial after a while. So she did what any respectful mage looking for secrets to share: she left after about 3 total years.

It was after a year of being bored and searching for the right place that Gla headed for the College of Winterhold with her family’s blessing.

Upon arrival she was greeted with open arms by the Archmage at the time. H’Drice soon met up with the students at the time but one in particular stood out the most, Savos Aren. Nigh instantly they hit it off, sharing the different facts of knowledge, secrets from the Whispers on her end and magical practices on Aren. A relationship formed between them that spanned nearly a century.

    Then it happened.

On the 92 year of the 4th Era, Atmah planned an expedition to an ancient ruin called Labyrinthian. She along with fine other students, Takes-in-Light, Hafnar, Girduin, Elvali and Savos, met up to brainstorm the best time and get needed supplies. Gla’iah absolutely refused to be apart of it when asked to tag along, calling it a fool’s errand to chase after fairy tales.

Savos tried to persuade her but only succeeded in angering the “Ice Queen of the College.” H’Drice finally broke down and gave the Dunmer she loved an ultimatum: either ditch the expedition or go and not expect open arms upon his return.

Savos Aren arrived, alone, carrying only a torc. She never did forgive him for the loss of their fellow students.

Despite Aren being promoted to Archmage after Deneth, she remained at the college. She had been with the college through all its ups and downs over the long years of her life, including the Great Collapse. One of Aren’s first acts as Archmage was promoting Gla’iah to a faculty member.

Though their relationship changed drastically from lover to only professionally she was grateful he was alive but it wasn’t the same.

It would be nearly 80 years before something interesting happened at the college. With the return of the dragons and the Calling of the Dragonborn the search for any writings on the flying reptiles only to find scrapings. It wasn’t until an Argonian calling himself Xian-Krie came along did they learn.

Or at least he promised. He took what he wanted, information on the Elder Scrolls, before anyone could learn about the Thu’um.

During that time the college’s recent tek to Sarthuul revealed the Eye of Magnus. And the trouble with the Thalmor representative, Ancano, rose more and more each day. It finally came to a head when he tried to take the Eye’s power for himself and nearly destroyed the whole of Winterhold. Savos was killed in the initial shockwave that blocked everyone from entering.

Gla’iah followed in her dead lover’s footsteps so many years ago and went to Labyrinthian to retrieve the Staff of Magnus. It was here that she learned the truth of what happened to the long dead students she considered friends. She cried as she watched their ethereal projections as they talked about finding ancient, enchanted weapons and Shalidor’s writings. She cried as she watched them die gruesome, horrifying deaths.

When she came face to face with the Dragon Priest, Morokei, it took everything in Gla’s power to survive and take the Staff from the draugr’s cold, dead hands. Its mask would serve as a reminder to her for everything that was lost.

Upon returning to the now magical storm surrounding the college, Gla’iah used the newly acquired weapon to carve a swath through the magical barrier. Reaching Ancano Gla’iah let herself go ripping the High Elf to bloody ribbons.

The mages from the Psijic took the Eye of Magnus, and the Staff, to their island of Artaeum.

It was unanimously decided by all the faculty in Winterhold that Gla’iah should be the new Archmage.

Personality: She is generally a nice, sweet even, woman, being warm to friends and strangers alike. She does have a sharing attitude towards knowledge despite her time in the College of Whispers and brief interactions with The Synod.

Flaws: The Ice Queen is known to be a bit cold at times and can be a touch vindictive. She knows what she wants and perhaps that comes from the High Elf blood in her as well as Nord blood. When the woman sees something she wants, even for a limited time, she’ll do things to make it hers.

Spoken Languages: Cyrodilic (fluent), Aldmeris (fractured but learning on her own time).

Relationships: Gla’iah has a healthy relationship with all the faculty in the college, sometimes being asked for a little assistance from the students as well. Urag and her are close due to their shared love of books. With the Empire in control of Winterhold she tries to repair the college’s reputation with the town.

    Other Info:

    • She knows much from all schools of magic but focuses on Destruction, Alteration, and Illusion
    • She has slept with Xian-Krie, though that situation is messy
    • Gla'iah enjoys playing the lute and flute
    • She does not accept her Cyrodilic nobility while in Skyrim
    • She and Urag share a kinship for their love of literature

There are things in the world that are destined to fall onto your lap. There’s no harm in speeding up the process.

Wonderful work, Ben. Do I sense some LOTR inspiration, at least in the name? Not gonna lie, I pronounced her name 'Galadriel' the first time I read it :P

I really like that you made her backstory the events transpiring in game, as they're so important to the character and so skillfully woven into the story.

    Now, onto some questions.

How has her interaction with the local population been over the last 100 years? I'm not sure whether they'd be more or less accepting of someone who is half their blood (although I'd be more tempted to say less). Or maybe she doesn't get out much so the locals don't know about her?

Has she achieved anything significant in her time at the College. Maybe its my mortal mind speaking, but 100 years is a long time, and with the brains she has I'd assume she'd have a breakthrough or two. And on top of this, what are her goals as Arch Mage? She seems quite ambitious (?), and if she wants to continue her late lovers legacy or at least match it she would probably have something grand planned.

The Great Collapse was a very stressful time in the life of the College (to put it lightly). How did it affect her? Maybe this could be a tipping point for her relationship with the population? Did it make her grow closer to her fellow mages, and as a result Savos? It's not really important, but as it's rare for a backstory to include the event it'd be nice to see something done with this.

    Also

    light black

    Do you mean grey? :P

I'm really digging this profile though mate. I love mages, and I reckon Ice users (Cryomancers?) don't get enough love, so this is very nice indeed.

Firstly, thank you for the compliment but no, there is no LoTR inspiration; I personally hate that series, but if there are, cool

It has been largely the same. As she was accepted into the College in 4E 76 she didn't have much of an issue as much of the Thalmor activities were kept hidden from the populace. More of her will be revealed in Chronicles; promise

Maybe I'll be able to think of something/somethings but as of now, I can't think of shit XP

Like I said, more of her will be revealed in Chronicles which will, hopefully, quence the thirst. I left things out, like her exact age, to make her mysterious and more alluring in a way. And as for the "light black = gray" no, I meant light black :P

Fair enough mate, looking forward to it! I don't really have the time to read stories much right now but I'll try and give it a look.

Oh and I can't believe I missed this, but can you change the title to just 'Profile: Gla'iah, Archmage of Winterhold'? Just to keep it in line with the rest of the profiles.

Also, you can tag your profile! This post tells you more about it.
