True true, but sometimes I think exploits can be excused if it helps the character's progression as a whole, even if in the moment it's a bit immersion breaking. Like levelling a skill to an artificially high level if you're playing a master at a certain thing.

That's a good point. I have occasionally played a stealth character whose RP has him or her already at a fairly high level of stealth. For me, having to have those characters re-learn a skill that they are already supposed to be proficient at breaks immersion. So in Helgen when I'm at the point where you're supposed to sneak past the bear, I start stealth-wailing on Hadvar (two swords and quick tap of the left and right button) to ramp up my Stealth skills. Takes less than 10 minutes to get the Silent Roll perk, and then I'm off to play the game like an already stealthy character.

That exploit actually solidifies immersion for me in those particular cases.

Also, I've often wondered about that entrance into the Midden from below the college. I've never been down there when I didn't need to get back into the college for some reason or other--that entrance always seemed a bit superfluous to me. But following your conversation here, it does make me wonder if the entrance was designed to allow characters to backdoor into the college in order to avoid joining the faction after all.

Exactly, to me it's way easier to justify why a deadly assassin can barely sneak up on a farmer or why a powerful mage can barely heat water than to ignore 10 minutes of grinding.

And yeah, I feel like at some thought must've gone into the placement of the thing. I mean there are other places in the game where it's way harder to go back on yourself than there, so it's gotta have at least been a thought.
