Faction Profile: The Daedric Templars

  • October 16, 2015

Well it took ages but I've finally done it. I've released it just like I said I would. In this page you'll find a group heavily influenced by the Templars of Assassin's Creed, due to me preferring the Templars to the Assassins after having played Rogue. This is my first (and only) Faction Profile, and I'd appreciate any criticism you have to offer. And so, without further delay, let me introduce you to...

"May the strings of fate weave to your will."  –Maxim of the Daedric Templars

Welcome, sera. You seem to have stumbled upon my domain. Hmmm... Normally I'd turn an intruder like you to ash within seconds, but I can tell that it was not mere coincidence that we meet. Yes, I can sense a certain aura of destiny about you. You know what, I think I'll allow you to live. I can feel great potential within you, after all. I think I could use you. ...Use you for what, you say? Well now where are my manners? Please follow me, and I shall explain too you my - "our" - destiny. Within these walls, I shall show you the truth you have been waiting for.

For the longest time immemorial, man and mer had built upon themselves a faith in the Aedra that began existence, following their own pantheons and worshipping each as gods with shrines and prayers. However what these mortals fail to realize is that these gods . They look upon this world, watch it crumble upon itself, but do nothing for it. Those fools who believe that the gods speak to them or give them messages are only veiling themselves and those around them from the truth: The gods have long since abandoned the affairs of us mortals.

I was once a forsaken soul, but this is nothing new for a Dunmer. I'd spent my entire life as a slave, mastering the masters and nearly forging my own fate. Then, I was given the first chance I'd never had; I'd become a member of a group that sought to control the world and keep it safe from itself. They sought to control all peoples and usher in an era of ultimate dictatorship. No war. No violence. Just the men and mer of Tamriel living their lives. For a time, I suppose they would be the closest thing I could find to the truth. But as I lived my life and my purpose I slowly began to find the "real" truth; while the gods had indeed abandoned us they did not leave us without masters.

    ...The Daedric Princes...

As I continued to fall into power and insanity I'd realized deep within what little sanity I had that the dark forces of this world are too powerful. We cannot achieve peace. We cannot do away with war. So long as these dark influences exist the hubris and vilification of mortalkind would never dissipate. I'd realized this as I perished from this world, and yet it seems I've been reborn. I cannot understand if the life I'd lived was but a dream or a vision from my master Hermaeus Mora, but what I understand is the realization. It was then that I decided to cast away my past oaths and creeds and forge my own. I no longer seek the path peace; rather I will be the one who forges the paths themselves.

This is what we are. We are control. We are what the masses need. Mortals need a guide to save them from the eventual armageddon that will consume them. We work under the name of the only higher power left in this world, the Daedric Princes. We both worship and acknowledge their existence and immense power, and it is after them that we base our efforts to blend the shape of Tamriel to our desires. Darkness looms over the world. Fear not the darkness that blankets your faith; for it is an awakening to the truth. To the realization you must make. Accept us, for we are the sentinels in the shadows, puppeteers with countless marionettes under our control. History's greatest achievements will inundate with the proof of our influence.

    We are the Daedric Templars.

Countless events have transpired through time, and even space. Ancient enemies have been sealed away and resurrected too many times to count. Monarchs have fallen and Kings have lead their countries to ruin. Brothers raise sword against each other for petty reasons rife with the evidence of shortsightedness. Humanity is under threat of extinction by the elven supremacist group known as the Thalmor. I could begin to name more but to do so would extend far too long. All you need to gain from this is that major events are rampant.

How much influence do you think it would take to shake these very events to their core? One person dying when they should not have. A shipment of arms and armor disappearing out of nowhere. The wrong person winning an election of office. So many ways to shake Tamriel's history, does it not boggle your mind? If I were to tell you how simple these acts were, how easy it would be to either doom mortalkind or save it, you would call me a fool. But it is true; our goal is to bend not just the mortals, but their creations and their legacies.

We seek to bend the events of Tamriel to your choosing; to create the paths instead of follow them. Assassinating a king or noble. making off with critically important artifacts. And everything in between. None is beyond our grasp. We operate and exert our influences based on the Daedric Princes' respective aspects. As such we have a multitude of specialities for various operatives whom wish to worship a specific one.

There are, of course, ranks to our organization. Where you stand determines how much you know or will know, and determines how much influence and power you have. To rise in the ranks, you may be given missions suitable to your specialty. Once an Agent has proved his worth once, he will be inducted as an Envoy. Envoys that further prove their value may become Masters, and only the truly greatest of Masters can become something more. The ranks are as follows:

    1. Agents: These are Templars that have been freshly recruited into our group. They hold the least amount of power and know the least amount of secrets. Time as an Agent is the most critical as failure is tolerated the least. Should you prove yourself more a liability, you are subject to termination.
    2. Envoys: Envoys are Agents who broke past the breaking in phase and have been fully accepted into the Daedric Templars. Envoys are distributed among one of 16 different specializations, one for each Daedric Prince, according to either their skills and specialities or their faith. Envoys are important because they are, in a sense, the Hand of the Templars by which we weave fate.
    3. Masters: These are Envoys that are skilled enough or have contributed enough to be deemed worthy enough to take a leadership position. Master Templars generally lead the Envoys on missions and train the Agents. They are also the only ones trusted on major missions that affect the influence of one or more provinces. Masters command a high level of respect akin to that of a Jarl.
    4. Grandmasters: There is only one Grandmaster at the time of this writing: Me. I am the one who leads the Daedric Templars, and I shall also lead the world to glory. With my knowledge gifted to me by my lord Hermaeus Mora, I shall bend fate in my own ways.

In order to advance in rank, you must either take missions or contribute to the organization as a whole (this includes IRL stuffz like images and sites and stuff). Be warned, it is possible to be demoted from one rank to another.

These are the different specialities of Envoys and beyond. Each one is based on an individual Daedric Prince, and each is integral to our mission in Tamriel. .

    Envoy of Affliction

    • Description: Plagues and Poisons are the preferred tools of this Envoy. Protected by their lord Peryite, their affinity with such toxins not only give them a resistance, it also gives them greater knowledge of their afflictions. You'll find not a single better poisoner than an Envoy of Affliction.
    • Influence: Diseases and poisonings are just one of the many ways the Daedric Princes can either hinder or do away with a target by means of "natural causes". They can also be food testers, as they are anywhere between resistant and immune to even the worst poisons.

    Envoy of Ambition

    • Description: One of the most connected to the Oblivion influences, Envoys of Ambition follow Mehrunes Dagon and seek to fell many an empire. They are intelligent, cunning, and have the forces of Oblivion at their side. They have roots in The Dark Brotherhood and even the Morag Tong should it return.
    • Influence: Envoys of Ambition are the best at public killings. They are the greatest weapon to use to make a heavy point. In truth they are the best at any assassinations, specializing in various methods of killing ranging from backstabbing to "divine" smiting.

    Envoy of Anarchy

    • Description: These Envoys are especially dangerous to watch for if you're a noble. These Envoys have a silver tongue and a penchant for crushing the upper class puppets that Boethiah would be impressed by. They are the most free-minded of Envoys, and I prefer to keep it that way.
    • Influence: Like the name says, their specialty is sowing anarchy where necessary. Whether it be for the sake of overthrowing a government or ruining a bid for candidacy. Envoys of Anarchy are unparalleled when it comes to taking apart other organizations or groups. After all, all it really takes is a little push...

    Agent of Artifice

    • Description: :These Envoys are packed with a silver tongue, a penchant for deceit and a lust for rumors and scandal. They love to know the things you don't want them to know, and are the first people you can expect to stab you in the back. They are masters of deception and tricks, easily worming their way into your trust before destroying everything you've worked hard for in the name of Mephala.
    • Influence: Whereas the Envoys of Shadow prefer the darkness to perform their tasks, these Envoys do almost the same thing under the presence of others. They serve as spies and informants for the organization that are capable of making away with even the most sensitive secrets over time.

    Envoy of Balance

    • Description: Night and Day. Light and Dark. This is the focus of this Envoy, which takes after the Daedric Prince Azura. These Envoys hold skill in both sides of morality; Restoration and Necromancy seemingly being the most popular. To them, balance is essential to controlling Tamriel.
    • Influence: Whenever a side or group becomes too powerful when facing their adversaries, the Envoy of Balance appears to tip the scales to the underdog's favor enough so that the proper required balance between the two is maintained and steady. Their impartial attitudes are also good for settling disputes.

    Envoy of Brutality

    • Description: Fierce and powerful, the Envoys of Brutality take after their patron Molag Bal and seek domination of enemies. This is one of the few to watch out for in the organization, as these Envoys may sometimes not restrict their dominating style to our enemies.
    • Influence: They are one of the many warrior-based Envoys we hold, and by far the most dangerous to run into. They can be tasked as "awakeners", bringing the ivory tower of the foolish crumbling down upon them in some of the most horrible of ways. They also serve as general soldiers to help promote fear for one side of a war or battle.

    Envoy of Consuming

    • Description: One of the least respected groups, the Envoys of Consuming take pride in their lady Namira's domain of filth and repulsion. They reside in the most uncouth of locations with bodies spread out everywhere. They have greater endurance and stamina than most due to years of their bodies adapting in a special way to their minimalistic lifestyle, often boasting a regenerative ability far beyond even troll capabilities.
    • Influence: They act as "Cleaners" for when a body needs to disappear with no traces. For most of the cannibals in this Envoy, a target, traitor or terminated Agent means dinner for them. They're also the go-to Envoys for any missions involving "undesirable" working conditions.

    Envoy of Dreams

    • Description: Envoys of Dreams  are by far the most subtle of the Envoys, acting indirectly in similar fashion to Vaermina. Even more shadowy than the Envoys of Shadows and more frightening, these Envoys prefer not to deal in direct combat, letting their summons or their opponent's allies do all of the dirty work of killing.
    • Influence: True to their basis, these Envoys were given an ability to influence the dreams of man and mer. By subtly affecting their thoughts in their dreams, they plant subliminal influences that can change the beliefs of even the most devout of priests.

    Envoy of Hunting

    • Description: Embracing Hircine's gift of The Hunt, Envoys of Hunting are almost exclusively werebeasts of some breed. They are predators by nature and hunt with such fierce capability that the common wolf is but an elk in comparison. Once they've set their sights on something, it's never getting away.
    • Influence: Envoys of Hunting serve as avid scouts during the day or where there are less shadows, and make for excellent guardsmen who never let intruders of any kind escape. Whenever the Daedric Prince need some creature or monster dead, the first Envoy they turn to is this one. The werebeasts can act as a mini-Wild Hunt, sent forth to decimate and leave nothing in their wake.

    Envoy of Knowledge

    • Description: Based on the Daedric Prince Hermaeus Mora, Envoys of Knowledge boast a colorful library of knowledge in just about any field of study. Most are mages that have mastered at least one school of magic, while some of the best became Sorcerers who've conquered all schools.
    • Influence: These Envoys are tasked with controlling what intelligence goes to which person. They will just as likely leave a book somewhere for a certain someone to find as they are to make books, scrolls and other tomes mysteriously "disappear". They also serve as Lorekeepers of the Daedric Templars.

    Envoy of Mercantilism

    • Description: Dealers and  by trade, the Envoys of Mercantilism take note of the various deals made by Clavicus Vile in order to come closer to a skill of persuasion as potent as his. Most have been known to be Imperials, master manipulators that can easily talk their way out of a fight.
    • Influence: They are in charge of financing the Daedric Templars, as well as getting their hands on items of extreme curiosity. Where the Envoy of Shadows would steal valuables, these Envoys are skilled in "somewhat" legal exchanges and dealings. They also act as the voice of the Daedric Templars as ambassadors and such.

    Envoy of Misfits

    • Description: They may have been abandoned by the world, tossed aside like trash to rot. But I have found them, and they shall serve to find the others. Envoys of Misfits are often Orcs due to the Envoy's connection with Malacath. Orc or not, they don't take disrespect from anyone. Those that think they can look down upon them will quickly find that they walk home one limb short.
    • Influence: These are the "voice of the people" that can sow revolution in ways the Envoy of Anarchy could not. By reaching out to those who had been screwed over by destiny, they bolster the forces of the Daedric Templars and, by extension, themselves.

    Envoy of Psychosis

    • Description: Almost as mad as the mad god Sheogorath himself, Envoys of Psychosis are still just as unpredictable. No one, not even myself, can really know what stable thoughts go through their minds or why they've decided to serve the Daedric Templars. One thing is certain, however; their unpredictable and erratic actions serve to greatly confuse any enemy, that has the misfortune to face them.
    • Influence: One would be hard pressed to imagine a purpose for such unstable Envoys, but even chaos and insanity has its uses. One such use involves distractions and focus-shifters. By throwing a crazed lunatic in the right setting you can unravel a city in mere hours.

    Envoy of Purity

    • Description: Even Meridia's influence exists within in the form of the Envoy of Purity. These mighty zealots wish nothing more than to be given the chance to purge the lands of the filth that corrupts it. They can boast anywhere from Paladin skill to Ravager ferocity in their pursuit of their ideals, and I try to make sure the other Envoys stay out of their business.
    • Influence: Every now and again some ancient enemy or new tyranny that isn't Daedric Prince-related appears on Tamriel. When the so-called heroes cannot handle these forces it is up to the Envoy of Purity to either help them deal with this threat or take care of it themselves.

    Envoy of Shadows

    • Description: These Envoys are best at home in the darkness, where their talents come to full strength. Some Envoys of Shadows are actual Nightingales in service to Nocturnal, and sometimes such a position can warrant a direct upgrade to Master Templar. While this may seem odd, the reason is due to them proving that their skills are befitting of their position.
    • Influence: Scouts. Thieves. Subterfuge. Anything that can be done within the shadows is within this Envoy's specialty, particularly the thieving aspect as Nocturnal is known to be a patron of thieves. They are also one of the organization's finest Nightblades.

    Envoy of Sins

    • Description: Money, sex and drugs. That pretty much defines this Envoy. They are the lavish and the decadent, and much like Sanguine they love to spread that influence to others. They throw the best parties, hold the best wines and meads, and deal in illegal narcotics that could drive a Khajiit of Elsweyr mad.
    • Influence: Enticing both men and mer alike to dark indulgences, the Envoy of Sins lulls them all into a false sense of security or, if lucky, corrupts their faiths and responsibilities with personal pleasures and hedonism. The addicted and lustful are then easy prey for either their enemies or the Daedric Templars themselves

The first and most important symbol of the Daedric Templars, used to identify fellow operatives, is the Templar Ring. It is a ring with the Daedric Templar's symbol hidden within a clear ruby, the ring itself adorned with various details and such. Each ring is specially crafted and enchanted myself for its intended wearer, bearing enchantments to further your talents. To prevent these rings from falling into the wrong hands, each one is bound with an extra enchantment which binds it to the finger of the wearer. The enchantment cannot be removed except by an expert Envoy within our ranks.

The standard apparel for the operatives changes by rank. Each member gets Black Robes and a pair of Heavy Gloves and Boots and a mask that is made in the likeness of  a Dragon Priest from Solstheim. Agents receive Steel Plate Heavy gear and Dukaan, Envoys wear Ebony gear Zahkriisos, and Masters receive Daedric Gauntlets and Ahzidal. All but the mask are able to be custom enchanted to the operative's tastes, much like the Templar Ring. Grandmasters wear Linwe's Gloves, Thalmor Robes and Vampire Boots. I myself wear the helm of Miraak. If you cannot access the masks for some reason, you may use Vokun, Nahkriin, Volsung and Konahrik, in that order of rank.

The weapons of the Agents are that of Ebony-grade material, whereas Envoys and Masters receive Daedric-grade weaponry crafted once again by myself from the Atronach Forge. Each newly promoted Envoy is to receive a weapon fitting of his specialty during the advancing ceremony, to be handed out by the highest ranking member. Eventually once my influence has spread I hope to have others who are skilled enough in conjuring these tools in my ranks.

This is a list of our principles and commandments. These must be followed and adhered too, for they are the doctrines that protect our organization and are not to be taken lightly. Failure to uphold them, either purposefully or otherwise, runs the risk of demotion, or possibly termination.

--[1]   Uphold the principles of both our order and all that for which we stand, as well as the principles of your chosen Daedric Prince.

--[2]   Never share our secrets nor divulge the true nature of our work. To do so is to risk termination of you and the enlightened.

--[3] Never commit to any acts or agendas that could active compromise the organization. To do so will bring about heavy consequences.

--[4]   Do so from now until death, whatever the cost, for our deaths are often not an end, but another beginning. Remember that our purpose is not for ourselves, but for them.

--[5]   Each member may have greater fealty to their chosen Lord. We must respect this faith as they respect yours.

--[6]   Respect the authority of those of a higher rank than you, but remember your own intelligence. If something is wrong, report to me.

As of now, the current planned main base of operations is the well-secluded Castle Volkihar. Whether or not I will purge the vampires that dwell within it or rule over them is a decision I must consider as I traverse the land of Skyrim. For those operatives that chose not to take up base within, there are other options to consider. any cave or secluded location with a hidden dungeon or tomb or dungeon makes for a suitable base of operations. It must be some place no one in their right mind would try to delve into. Once you have chosen your base you must keep it defended. Raised undead thralls of whatever once occupied that location are a good source of outer guards to both ward away meddlesome intruders and give the illusion that your chosen base is solely being occupied by such beings.

Should your chosen base of operations be breached for whatever reason, what happens to the intruders is left up to you. Remember, however, that they are not allowed to leave. The most simple decision would be to kill them, making it look like an encounter with the creatures within. When dealing with anyone of either great influence or great reputation, it is often best to erase their memory of what they experienced and send them off unharmed. Should too many important figures perish near your location it will raise awareness, which will lead to greater expeditions into your lair. Such confrontations usually end up messy, so it is advised to deal with your trespassers with care.

The Daedric Templars have our operatives deeply rooted in various affairs involving Tamriel. The more eyes we have the better:

    The Thieves Guild
Having connections in the deepest of pockets serves us well. Therefore our Envoys of Shadows have taken deep root into this group. At least one of the Nightingales within the Trinity is an Envoy, with another possible low-ranked one acting as a normal member. With their influence in Skyrim, most notably their connections to Maven Black-Briar, information and wealth are plentiful.

    The Dark Brotherhood
A splinter group of assassins, I've sent at least one Hand of Ambition their way. Using the Dark Brotherhood as the blade that ends many a threat in Tamriel covers our tracks quite nicely after all; the attention will be shifted to them, and no one will even know to think of the Daedric Templars as being involved.

    The Khajiit Caravans
A hefty sum of gold, an even heftier sum of Moon Sugar, and Ri'saad was more than willing to partner up. After having been involved in and improving various dealings with him, he came to accept that a business partnership with me would last long after the war was over.

This is a list of all currently known members of the Daedric Templars, ordered first from rank descending and then from date of joining. An image of their profile at the time will be added, as well as a short description and detail about their duties. Should you wish to join, post in the comments your application, including the below information (with an image for your chosen char, if possible), and you shall be inducted into the organization.

Agents must complete at least one mission before they can be recognized as Envoys. Afterwards, they can either request missions or accept missions found on the Task Board from time to time. If you want a mission, you need only ask and I shall try to find the time to allow you to ply your trade upon Skyrim. Missions can vary from simple quests in the land of Skyrim to more complex acts of influence or power.

    Templar Rank: Agent
    Envoy of: Shadows
    Worshipped Prince: Nocturnal

Reason for Joining: I've traveled with Blackblood for quite a while in the past. Many enemies were slain and many riches were had. When he came to me a while ago about an offer to ply my trade more professionally I was taken aback sure enough. Although I was on the fence when he explained his current profession, I'll happily serve him nonetheless. The gifts to stealth don't hurt, either.

TAs the organization has been growing well I have decided to place a Mission Board in the main Dining Hall. Here I will periodically post various missions that almost any Envoy or higher are able to accept. Agents will not be able to accept these missions yet. Each one has a color coded stamp which helps indicate either who is eligible for the mission or what the mission entails. The colors are as such:
    Normal, Envoy-Specific, Taken, Important.
