This was a fun and informative read. Thank you! In my one play through which abused the ritual stone with the Aetherial Crown, I really should have used that Ring of Necromancy. Those two powers seem made for one another. Personally, on the subject of Undead a Thrall only being good for "human" races, I just found a mod someplace which removed that restriction. Made for a fun playthrough to have a pair of zombie bears.

Thanks Mercurias. That is one thing I wish they included in the original game. It would be awesome to have a zombie bear follower!

This was an excellent read from start to finish. I've been using necromancy forever and still picked up a few new tricks from these volumes. Magnificent work.

Thanks Gyoko. I'm glad you were able to learn something new.

I don't think Spellbreaker's effect can be absorbed by spell absorption though. I recently tried the same thing with J'zargo's Flame Cloak explosions which never absorbs either.

Awesome entries here Vargr! I'm a huge necromancy fan and even I learned a few tricks here. I like the embalming technique. Just want to clarify, above you mention that the philosopher's stone technique and using a huge fort conjuration potion negates the once-a-day limitation on Vampire's Servant. Is that because the zombie will remain active for more than a day or because you can actually cast the power multiple times because of the potion? I'm assuming the former, you just worded it in an odd way. The only things I think you didn't touch on was overriding an enemy necromancer's spell with your own stronger spell to take control of the zombie before being fully raised (useful for sparing your favorite thrall from ashing out) which Mason discovered in his Heretic build. It's situational but good knowledge. And also the usefulness of animal zombies. I prefer them in the lower levels especially but they are also viable late game simply for their sheer offense! They don't have the option to defend. Bears and sabre cats in particular. Another thing I love about animals is their lack of a resurrection animation. They hop straight up and jump back into battle seamlessly. Especially useful with staves. I nearly made a build based on animal necromancy because of the difference in AI

Thanks Alastor I'm glad you found this interesting.

To clarify, I meant that the duration lasts more than a day so the drawback of Vampire's Servant is mitigated somewhat, which is what I should of said, you're right it is worded oddly I will change that.

I love animal zombies but I usually use them when I'm playing a druid character.  Or I should say that having animal zombies makes me feel more like a druid and less like a necromancer, but that could be just me.

My favorite animal zombie is the Vale Sabercat, I just love the look of them.

Yeah I feel ya on the Druid part but at the same time a Druid wouldn't raise a creature as a mindless puppet so it's hard to rp either way lol. And I love the Vale creatures, awesome variant on the sabre cat and deer. I really wish you could give commands to your thralls though :/ why not give them the same follower command options? It never made sense to me :p

I have often found myself wondering the same thing.
