The Modified Advanced Atronach Stone

The Modified Advanced Atronach Stone (or MAAS, for short), like the Advanced Atronach Stone that was made famous by Mason's Obsidian Sentinel, allows the player to achieve 100% spell absorption. However, while the Advanced Atronach Stone gives +100 magicka and -100% magicka regeneration, the MAAS gives +70 magicka and -70% magicka regeneration. Furthermore, the Advanced Atronach Stone requires high-level Alchemy, while the MAAS only requires a Philter of the Healer and the Atronach perk. In short, it's a simple way to achieve 100% Spell Absorption without things like Necromage, Miraak's equipment, or the Alchemy skill.

The method for creating the MAAS is simple. Simply drink a Philter of the Healer (they start showing up in leveled lists at level 20) and activate the Atronach Stone. This will give you 70% spell absorption, +70 magicka, and -70% magicka regeneration. After that, all you have to do is get the Atronach perk, and that 70% spell absorption will become 100%.

Here are a couple of notes on how to improve your MAAS experience. First, while getting the 100 Alteration skill required for the Atronach perk is usually time consuming, you can get there in no time at all by using this trick. Unfortunately, you still have to use five perks to reach the Atronach perk, but that’s a small price to pay for complete spell absorption. Second, you can modify the Ultimate Atronach Stone in a similar manner to achieve both infinite concentration casting and perfect spell absorption simply by using the Atronach perk alongside the Ultimate Atronach Stone. Mason’s Seraphim does that, and you can also look at that build for details on how to create the Ultimate Atronach Stone and how it works.

Finally, let's talk about the Alternate Modified Advanced Atronach Stone (or AMAAS for short). It's just as simple as the regular MAAS for achieving 100% spell absorption, but it uses Miraak's gear instead of the Atronach perk. It also gives +75 magicka and -75% magicka regeneration instead of the +70/-70% of the regular MAAS. To create the AMAAS, drink an Elixir of the Healer (they start showing up in leveled lists at level 30) and activate the Atronach Stone, which will give you 75% spell absorption, +75 magicka, and -75% magicka regeneration. After that, equipping Miraak's Robes, Boots, and Gloves will boost your spell absorption to 100%. I recommend this over the regular MAAS for builds where you don't want to perk Atronach and/or don't want to use Alteration but don't mind using Miraak's equipment.

You know I like those nice, round numbers. This is one of the best ways to get 100% Absorption, IMO. I'm on-board the MAAS train.

One thing I suggest is to explain the "Ultimate Atronach" directly, because there are going to be people who read this and have no clue what it is. It's not really a widely used name, I don't think. Only we Masonites use it on the regs.

Agreed. I've been meaning to use this in a build for its effectiveness, simplicity, and nice, round numbers, but haven't thus far. Regarding the Ultimate Atronach Stone, I went ahead and made a note in the discussion saying that you can check out Mason's Seraphim for an explanation on how it works.

I've never actually done advanced or ultimate atronach
because I could only never find any of the needed potions except the philter even then I didn't find a lot of them. but this cool a little balanced over poweredness. sorta..kinda..maybe? I'm not sure if that's stupid orsounds right atall :P

Fortunately, the MAAS only needs the Philter of the Healer as far as potions go.

100% spell absorption by its very nature is overpowered since not only are you completely immune to magic, you gain magicka when hit by magic attacks.

For the potions, I suggest going to Arcadia in Whiterun. See if she's stocking any of what you need, and if so buy it. Then, save the game inside her shop. Kill her, then reload that save, and her stock will be reset. Check again if she has the potion(s) you need, and if so, buy it and save again, then kill her and reload. Repeat until you get the ones you need. It shouldn't take more than ten minutes or so.

Obviously, make sure you meet the level gate as well. "Draughts" begin appearing at level 10, "Philters" at level 20, and "Elixirs" at level 30.

As for being overpowered ... I mean, yeah, it is. But at least you have the penalty to Magicka Regen as a bit of a counterbalance.

Quick question, is this fixed by the unofficial patches?

Fortify Restoration bug is fixed, so yes. There is a counter patch available: Link

Can Miraak's robes also be fortify restoration buffed so you can still get another standing stone and not level alteration?
