You can do it, Okan! If you need the rest of the year, take the rest of the year. But don't give up, you pessimistic scale-back! Keep going!

    Woo update!

Well you have the beginning and ending locked in, maybe let the characters help guide you through the middle. Just talking out of my @$$ here.

Don't worry Okan. Remember, nothing is perfect no matter how much you want it to be. Just do the best you can and if you feel like giving up then play some Skyrim or something, that usually gets my mind off things.

I know what you mean. I'm writing something for Skyrim where one of my characters visits Falskaar. Got the beginning written and ending planned but middle, well I don't know what to do with that. I think it will end up being rushed and / or boring. I gave up on it for a while then released another chapter so I might continue with it depending on interest.

Oh Hell, Oblivion and Hircine to boot….

I really wish I could say I know what you are going through but I haven’t the foggiest. How then do I give some encouragement and help?

We all have bad months, what you need to do is leave March behind and concentrate on April. Why not try some free writing? Just write a short story on an idea buzzing around your mind. I know there’s probably a few there hidden somewhere. That will help your creativity to flow and it might answer a few of the problems you have.

Maybe you just need some basic words of encouragement to settle and quell the doubts.

Have a word with Borom. Maybe he can read through some of what you have done.

I would happily read a chapter or two depending on how much you want someone to read but I seriously doubt I’m the right one to give feedback.

If I CAN help, or any of us for that matter, you only have to ask.

No need to worry, Sotek. I posted this update while I was in a bad mood, but in the back of my mind I knew I'd find ways to overcome.

I'm currently sorting out the problems with my story, considering options, and getting excited about new ideas. I don't know what's going to happen to this novel as I've currently written it. Am I going to piece it apart and turn it into something different? The individual characters and plots are great, but I don't think they're working together.

Time will tell what comes, but one thing isn't going to change: I will not give up.

I'm going to share some words of wisdom that I found last night that ended up being exactly what I needed. They've given me licence to tackle my problems from different angles. Maybe they'll encourage someone else here too.

"Remember that the product of your writing career is NOT the books themselves, but YOU. Your purpose in writing is to train yourself to be someone who can write incredible books, and you get there by finishing story after story. Don't get too bogged down in the project of the moment; keep moving forward. YOU are what you are creating, not the story."

"It can be tough. You get really invested in [your] first story; I know how it feels. Often, what holds you back is that you know your skill isn't up to doing justice to the great story you've imagined, so you end up getting frustrated or dragging your feet.

Sometimes, the answer is to tell yourself, 'I'll do this one after I've practiced some more.' Give yourself permission to do something else, knowing that you're not abandoning your story--just delaying until you can do it right."

I'm switching gears for a little while. My novel's got some major plot problems I need to take care of, so I'm setting it aside until I work up a new outline.

In the meantime, I've started writing the next chapter of DOTE. It feels like... coming home. I honestly missed these characters.

I hope these past months have made me a little wiser. I'll do my best to keep my writing up to standard.
