I'd suggest just continuing working on the chapters, and releasing them "together" as you had planned, maybe with some teaser along the way to keep your most rabid fans at bay ;)

As Ebonslayer said you don't need to write a minimum amount to be a good writer. Keep it up and don't let it get to you. It's hard I know; my life seems to be a lot of major disappointments at the moment but I won't go into that :)

It's very annoying when you feel like it's your fault e.g having slept in. I myself have difficulty sleeping and often can't concentrate during the day making me make stupid mistakes at work etc.

As for DOTE - yeah Christmas or New year would be a good time to release and gives time to perfect it.

Okan, I'm really sorry you didn't make it. I can't imagine the awful crushing feeling you must have, but I'll agree with FishDout when I say 30,000 words in one month is pretty stellar. I wouldn't be able to write that many words in three months, even. You are a champion, you know. Being able to run your hand (and your mind) through a marathon isn't a mark of true excellence, it's just a handy skill to have. After all, you may get it next year, or the year after. Failure is a harsher mentor than success, but you'll always remember his lessons.

Also, it's perfectly all right to get p**sed off with yourself every once in a while.

As for posting chapters, I think the Christmas idea is wonderful. I'd be in Tasmania at that time, but I'd probably get a chance to read it at night.

Alright, pity party is over. We all have our goals and we don't always reach them. Question is what you do with the setback? Not me being harsh, me being a teacher who watches her students struggle and get frustrated with themselves and then have to address their frustrations.

From what I understand of NaNoWriMo, the purpose is to write a novel. The 50k limit is just an arbitrary goal, yes, and a lot of people balk at it. You even have the "rebels" at NaNo who don't like it. LOL, your average novel is not even 50k words, so let's not even go there. I would call it more a Novella or a long short story (tehehe, long short story).

Honestly, at least you wrote. From what I've read of the forums and pages devoted to "beating" NaNoWriMo, because there is this strange drive to "beat" everything nowadays. Instant gratification, ooooo, look at my badge or sticker of accomplishment.  Some people just copy and paste gibberish to reach the 50k mark. That, to me, is missing the goal, by a long shot, which is to write. 50k worth of "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy" is not a novel and it's an insult to people who reached the goal with legitimate writing and to those who didn't necessarily meet the 50k, but still took the time to write, which you did. You accomplished more than most.

Now, let's think about it this another way.

What does a professional author need to do in order to keep money in the pocket? Or even an author who has to produce a steady amount of material? How much do you think they have to churn out on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis?

I think one way to look at NaNo is to see how you did during the month and use it as an opportunity to hone skills. Not that 30k is bad, it isn't, but if it's not what your goals were, then it warrants some analysis, don't you think? If you struggled, analyze what you struggled with and figure out what you can do to improve. It's what I do when a performance doesn't go well, or I have a bad lesson. Then I move on.

Lol, you are so funny, Okan. Why are you asking us? You're the author of DOTE, you do what you want to do. If you don't feel comfortable with the material or the pacing, then you release the material as you see fit. Your audience can and will wait.

And thank you for your congratulations. A great chunk of Part 4 of Straag Rod was completed with the push from NaNo, but I didn't finish it either.

I posed the question  because it seemed like something my readers should decide. I'm the author, yes, but in the minds of my readers I'm only a co-director. You all are the ones who truly visualize the story. I'm not just telling it myself - we tell it together

I'm perfectly fine with releasing the chapters. I just wasn't sure what everyone here would prefer. Now that I know, I can move plans forward.

Look, I just wanted to make sure you didn't feel pressure to post if you didn't feel like it.

    Right, I understand.

And thanks. I appreciate the advice at any rate.
