    What Are You Working On?

Or, if you rather... What are you trying to work on at this time?

It's been a while... A long while since I have realy tried to write a chapter for my story U.o.t.W. I still have at least 40 chapters to edit before I can focus on new material but there are so many plots and story lines I want to write and add. The trouble is this one question.... What are you trying to work on at this time? I have been trying to work on one chapter for a few months but the real question is howl hard have I been trying.

So, for the sake of sanity and maybe for you other claw scratchers out there, I thought I'd start this conversation as a way of kickstarting those of us who have been trying to get somewhere but just lack that final push to make any comitment to their pieces. I'm going to update this week by week with my progress and I hope you do the same. This is open to everyone, so by all means, join us at the campfire and tell us. Just what is it you are working on and howl is it going?

For me, it's editing U.o.t.W. Chapter 327 Storms and Turbulence.

Sotek, Aela, Farkas and Vilkas are heading up the Seven Thousand Steps.

Word count so far...  2392 of 4062

    Now, what about you?

Sotek, I am currently working on a continuation of Hasir backstory where Hasir is captured by Morrowind slavers and brought back to Dren plantation to work as a slave for Orvas Dren alongside other Argonians, namely his aunt, unlce and a little Argonian teenager hehas taken a shining to (not a romantic relationship, more like him seeing her as a new little sister not part of his cclutch or family unit.) This is after he finds out is Hircine's chosen as has esscaped the jaws of Oblivion. In that chapter, the Argonians will not be working at dren plantation as planned but in a diamond mine near Caldera forced to mine diamond to be sent back to Orvoss dren and the duke of ebonheart to further fund their nefarious campaign of slavery.

In my main story, I am working on a chapter where Hasir and the companions found a brand new chapel to Hircine near the white river after the underforge burnt down by Hasir's iinsane brother, Tulen. I decided to use the giant horse effigies of the kelpies in Scotland to use as a base from which I would built the huge cathedral under.

Those parts are progressing smoothly, surprisingly enough, I have yet to rely on an outline of the story as my ideas just seem to pour out of my mind, sometimes without me even thinking about them. It started off as a copy (of sorts) of your Union of the wolf story but over the years it has really come into its own. I have no idea how many chapters I am going to write on my own story. Just like you, I have more plots, character developement and world building to do in my own story.

Hey guys, it's been awhile since I've posted in the Vault. Anywho, I'm currently working on a novel!

It's a setting deconstruction of Hammerfell (Post-Empire) and I wish to explore the assumptions and implications on what would happen now since the Empire have forced independence upon the province and why can't the Aldmeri Dominion conquer it.

On the plot, the story follows a Sister Clarissa, a devotee to Mother Kynareth in a far away temple in a far away village. Life has been simple for Clarissa but everything changed when the temple played host to a woman and a mysterious girl...

This is the first novel I'm writing and so far stuff is happening. I'm looking for beta readers (I expect to release 5 chapters by mid-Feb) so if you're interested, hit me up in the Discord channel.

    Awwwooo Hasir… Delta…

    Hasir:-

Backstories are and have always been a wonderful way to add character depth and perfect to feed the readers imagination on who the characters really are. I enjoy writing Sotek’s early years for this purpose.

Oh, the Caldera Mines. Funny that you are using that location as I too have plans for that particular slave mine.  The chapel along the Whiteriver sounds interesting. What area do you have in mind for it I wonder.

I know what you mean about ideas pouring onto the pages. I’ve written so much and yet even now ideas form and force me to make notes of them. I have so much more to add yet. Need to finish Stormcloaks off and introduce Neesha and Sotek’s family. Vampires and Serana need to be started, alongside which Aela and Red have a hard time…  Going to be some fast paced, emotional stuff in that arc. A few hard chapters too, especially for Aela.

Once that is done then I can take the Companions to Morrowind… Got a few ideas for that…

    Delta:-

I’ve often wondered for certain story plots as to what Tamriel or rather parts of it would have been like in the past due to certain events. In games like Skyrim and Morrowind, there is always a way to sort out difficulties and stop evil influences, but I wonder sometimes about what would happen without anyone able to stop the dark clouds and rising tides. The good guys don’t always win, and it would be interesting to try to portray this in certain events-timelines.

I need to look at this further for U.o.t.W…. I think it would pay and be more balanced if the Companions didn’t always manage to clear out bandit lairs ect. Might have them loose a few fights rather than win… Be interesting to work on this aspect of the story.

And once again I say funnily enough……. Simply because I have a similar plot line to write about.

“On the plot, the story follows a Sister Clarissa, a devotee to Mother Kynareth in a far away temple in a far away village. Life has been simple for Clarissa but everything changed when the temple played host to a woman and a mysterious girl...”

Or in my case, the temple is in Ald’ruhn. The devotee, a low level worshiper and the temple plays host to Aela and Sotek.

In one chapter which I have written. (Don’t ask me which one but it is there somewhere between chapters 25 and 320……) Aela stated that when she was younger, (A Whelp) there was a girl who was almost raped by two Companions. Aela fought one and stopped it. The girl left and never went back. Well, she’s the devotee at the Temple. She recognises Aela and gets them to help her on a pilgrimage. Don’t know if you played Morrowind but there’s a temple quest of the four corners. Certain shrines which need to be visited all around Morrowind.

The chapter where Aela said about the girl must be when they took out the assassins….

Found it. Chapter 286 The Shadows Hide You…

Don’t let the fact that I also have temple plans put you off. My story covers Morrowind, Oblivion and ESO with a big helping of imagination so in all honesty I pretty much cover everything. (Even pirating and smuggling but that’s between Sotek and his past. Looking forwards to writing about Hides in the Mist….. )

Looking forwards to see where you stories go….

As for me… I am on the last 600 odd words then my latest chapter will be finished. Hoping to finish it tomorrow and maybe I’ll even get to post it tomorrow too. Provided Aela doesn’t get in the way… Sheogorath stays quiet… No bloodmoons to go on… Ebony doesn’t cause problems…

Who am I kidding??? Hopefully post it this week…..

This is for anyone else, whoever you are, reading. No idea is truly original (Without the copious use of narcotics) but what makes your work original is yourself. No two people will have exactly the same life and its that difference, the author's experience and knowledge that makes each story unique.

Take Hasir's Call of the Wolf and Sotek's Union Of The Wolf: If we really boil it down, they're both about an Argonian having adventures with the Companions of Skyrim during the 4th Era (TESV:Skyrim) but why would you boil your food down? Why wash away the spices - it just makes it bland!

I will say this again to you, the novice writer: don't worry about how 'original' your idea is; just write and even if there is similarities with your work and INSERTAUTHORHERE, there is still enough of you to make it yours.

@Sotek Is Ald'ruhn part of an arc or is it a one-off event?

Awoo, Sotek! It's good to hear from you again, my lizard/werewolf friend.

Still cycling between procrastination and worldbuilding to actually get into writing my story. The ideas are there, I just need to find time and push myself to put them into paper.

For those who want to know. My story is basically a pseudo-C0DA, set in an alternate universe where the Aldmeri Dominion won the Great War and the Empire broke up into a union of sorts, leading to the start of the 5th Era.

It's a slice-of-life story with an episodic format that mostly focuses on a group of people living in an Akaviri ethnic enclave in Skyrim who take on oddjobs to make ends meet. However, the story will also try to focus on how ordinary people in Skyrim go about their days in a world where the Empire no longer exists as well as the resurgence of the old Nordic Pantheon.

Currently* working on the "pilot chapter" which would serve as a preview to the actual story.

    *Depending on my disposition.

    Awwwooo A-Pocky

Great to hear from you. I have been 'Currently working' on my latest chapter too. For over 8 months. Thats why I thought about having this discussion. It's (I hope) a safe place for us writers to tell eachother what we are working on, progress and difficulties. I am also hoping this works as insperation to everyone including myself. Every few days I will tell others about what chapter I am on and my word count. I hope you all will do so too as a way of fueling that inner fire of creativity. Its so easy to say to yourself. "I'll do a bit more tomorrow. Not in the mood today..." We've all been there and that place I found to be visiting all to often and all too recently.

Now though, its threre fo rall to see. My word count of my next chapter is;-

0 of 3519. Friends in High Places.

You say you are working on the Pilot Chapter... How far have you got with it so far? WHat about everyone else? How is your progress going to your latest pieces over the last few days?

@Sotek Is Ald'ruhn part of an arc or is it a one-off event?

This is a hard one to answer. There are a few really nice temple quests which I enjoyed (Anyone remember the vow of silence one?). I suppose ultimatly it will be up to Aela and Sotek as to how far this plot goes. It might just be the one long journey across Morrowind or it could well end up being the cornerstone for Morrowind. ESO Morrowind has so much to offer.... ES III Morrowind also has a great deal to it as well....  So much to do there.....

The more I think on it, the more I realize there could be a whole year in Aela's and Sotek's life spent there.... Same as anywhere else in ESO. Althought Morrowind does hold that special place being the first ES Game I played....

Well, weekend is now over and it's back to work and reality. Played ESO fo ra bit over the weekend in Vvardenfel, slowly heading to a camp which Quentarii (Sotek's family) resides. If it is there in ESo.... Got a few more ideas for future chapters there too. As for writing... Chapter 328 Friends in High Places is making progress. Now on 2813 of 3935. tried to write a bit more jus now but my focus is wavering. Maybe I can get a few lines out tonight or tommorow morning. Would like this chapter finished before the weekend.

How hard could it be to edit 200 words a day?  Time will tell.

Howls everyone elses writing going? Any progress this week?
