    The All-Father, Odin~
Better to lick your wounds and be battled-scared then kiss ass and compromise your values.

    The Set Up

    0-1-Magicka / 2-Health / 3-Stamina
Note: Cap Magicka at 150 as you'll have 180 to play with but you shouldn't need any more than that.

Race: Breton [ Name: The All-Father, Odin ] Perks: Resist Magic 25% + Skill Lv's
Note: We're looking to cap at 85% and yes i know Nord would have made a better theme build but i was looking for protection over theme. Even if you go Nord it's still a powerful build just not as powerful. Also i had trouble making an old Nord who didn't look sad and fat lol

Standing Stone: The Lord Stone: +50 points Armor Rating / Resist Magicka 25% [ 50/85% ]

    Gear
Hair: The Jagged Crown: Enchantment: • N/A [ Try to give it 30+ Fortify Stamina ]
Note: the Jagged Crown is 1 of only 3 items that don't count as a "head-piece" but is rather a "hairpiece". Meaning it can be added with any circlet or a Dragon Priest Mask. However to keep this item means never finishing the faction quests, somehow making a copy OR Reserve pick-pocketing it onto Ralof or Hadvar. You'll need to join the faction you sides within Helgen for this to work tho. I HIGHLY recommend using Fus-Ro-Dah to knock him down and quickly dropping it into his invo before he can get up because the game will register him as a corpse for a second. Also only by pick-pocketing it back later will you be able to enchant it.

Head-Option#1: Aetherial Crown: Enchantment: •Retains the last Standing Stone ability you held, granting you its effects in addition to those of your current Stone.
Note: The Steed Stone: Wearing armor does not affect speed, +100 Carrying Weight, and equipped armor is weightless. The Aetherial Crown can be a little much to get for some and isn't really a NEED for the build. It's just nice to have. It's honestly a LOT easier and overall more effective to have this instead ...
    Head-Option #2: Circlet of X Destruction: Enchantment: •Fortify Destruction X%
Ring: Ring of X Destruction: Enchantment: •Fortify Destruction, X%
Note: The Fortify Destruction enchantments effect the charge cost for staves that deal damage so by decreasing the cost to cast we increase how many uses per stave we get. Also at lv40 you'll unlock the "Peerless" Version of items with this enchantment which have a 25% reduction for a 50% total.

Necklace: The Gauldur Amulet: Enchantment: •Fortify Magicka, Health, and Stamina, 30 points
    Chest: Savior's Hide: Enchantment: •Resist Poison 50% / Resist Magic 15% [ 65/85% ]
Hands: Steel Nordic Gauntlets: Enchantment: •N/A [ Try to find Fortify One-handed ]
Feet: Steel Cuffed Boots: Enchantment: •N/A [ Try to find Fortify Block ]

Right Arm: Staff of Jyrik Gauldurson: Enchantment: •Lightning Bolt Call Storm, 25 points
Note: Unlike most Staves you can't decrease the charge cost via enchantments or bolster its DPS via the Augmented perks. But as an offset this Stave has SUPER short charge time and a massive reach !!! You'll only get about 15 uses tho.
    Left Arm: Shield of Ysgramor: Enchantment: •Fortify Health, 20 points / Resists Magicka 20% [ 85/85% ]

    Melee Support Weapon's: Eduj &/or Okin: ( One-handed ) Enchantment: •Frost Damage, 10 points / Slow, 50 points for 3 secs
Note: Both can be found in Volunruud, weigh less than normal versions of the same items plus get bolstered by the Augment Frost Perk.

Support Staves: Because The staff of Jyrik Gauldurson gets used up so fast we need to offset with some other staves which can arguably be more useful. I personally carry all 7 listed but really you only need maybe 4 really. The carry weight isn't over taxing either so you'll have room for more stuff I assure you.

Support Weapon#1: Staff of Lightning Bolts: Enchantment: •Lightning Bolt 25 points
Support Weapon#2: Staff of Ice Spikes: Enchantment: •Ice Spike, 25 points / Slow, 50% for 3 secs
Support Weapon#3: Staff of Firebolts: Enchantment: • Firebolt, 25 points
Support Weapon#4: Staff of Chain Lightning: Enchantment: •Chain Lightning, 40 points in 20 ft / Stagger Push, 1 points [ Our main support weapon !!! due to the increase stagger chance. ]
Support Weapon#5: Staff of Ice Storms: Enchantment: •Ice Storm, 40 points in 15 ft / Slow, 50 points for 5 secs
Support Weapon#6: Staff of Fireballs: Enchantment: • Fireball, 40 points in 15 ft
Note: Falmer variations of 4,5, and 6 are MUCH ar easier to find as there are only have 8 possible Staves in all the Falmer can use but as a note falmer ONLY use the listed staves.

Magic: I recommend the basic elemental spells simply as support if your staves all run out of charge but really you don't even need magic.
Shouts: Disarm, Dismay, Unrelenting Force, Whirlwind Sprint, Clear Skies
Note: While Clear skies does no damage is does stagger / push enemy's back and it's got a shorter recharge then FusRoDah.

    Perks
    Destruction magic Lv30 Main Perk

Note: I'm personally unsure if these sort of perks effect staves so I ignored them. Please let me know if they do in fact have an effect on staves!

    Enchanting lv20 Main Perk
Enchanter [ 0 skill Lv ] New enchantments are 20% stronger.
Soul Squeezer [ 20 skill Lv ] Soul gems provide extra Magicka for recharging. This treats all Soul Gems as having 250 greater capacity when used for recharging.
    Note: GET THIS ASAP!

    Perk placing Lv:1-10
    Armsmen [ 0 skill Lv ]
    Juggernaut [ 0 skill Lv ]
    Agile Defender x2 [ 0 skill Lv ]
    Shield Wall [ 0 skill Lv ]
    Enchanter [ 0 skill Lv ]
    Soul Squeezer [ 20 skill Lv ]
    Deflect Arrows [ 30 skill Lv ]
    Juggernaut [ 20 skill Lv ]
    Agile Defender [ 20 skill Lv ]

    Perk placing Lv11-20
    Power Bash [ 30 skill Lv ]
    Augment Fire [ 30 skill Lv ]
    Augment Frost [ 30 skill Lv ]
    Augment Shock [ 30 skill Lv ]
    Elemental Protection [ 50 skill Lv ]
    Deadly Bash [ 50 skill Lv ]
    Block Runner [ 70 skill Lv ]
    Disarming Bash [ 70 skill Lv ]

Past lv17-20 the build can/should shift gears taking perks in smithing, one-handed, enchanting, alchemy, and Restoration. The build is really finished at around lv20 which I know is disappointing to some but I feel opens up the build to be advanced as you want. This gives you a pretty strong foundation to create a staff wielding battle made too but as the game progresses Odin needs to et stronger and stronger and the perks i took aren't as important to the build as what iv listed.

Extra Powers: Force without Effect: You stagger 25% less and foes stagger 25% more.

Factions to join: College of Winterhold & The Companions. War faction sides are of personal choice but id say Odin would side with the Stormcloaks myself.

Companions: Uthgerd the Unbroken [ Max Lv30 ] Trust me when I say you are going to need someone to keep the enemy focus away from you once in a while. Odin is powerful but his focus is limited, tho his battlefield control is the best iv made in a build.

Role Play: Slow and steady! Odin isn't the type to rush anything. Though he progresses FAST and becomes very powerful very quickly he does so taking calculated actions and never biting off more than we can chew. He'll never rush into a fight without a plan and he always has a plan. He's also the type that aged on the battlefield thus he knows his opponents better than they know themselves and takes advantage of any kink in their armor and exploits it to the best of his ability. He is set in his ways tho and thus trusts the tried and true over the new.
Note: Odin will eventually begin killing off all the giants and dragons he comes across. If you're ok with dealing with Barbas being anaggrivating ass you should take him plus another dog to act as Geri and Freki

Combat: Sheilds up! and bash! Odin didn't earn his reputation as the god-king by being a fool. He'll never let down his guard and makes his foes fight on his terms, not theirs. To that end, he'll bash anything that gets too close, step back, charge a stave and stick while they're unable to protect themselves. He's also not the sort to fight out in the open. That's a fools grave! So he'll pull back to a smaller space like a doorway or hall if overwhelmed. While some might see this as an act of cowardice his mindset is that whoever walks away from the fight is the winner and honor play's no role in digging a fools grave ...
Odin will use his staves to combat his enemy's using the best options for any given situation. Fire Ball for bulky crowds, Chain Lightning for crowds of mages, and Ice Storms for crowds of brutes who believe they can break his shield. He'll resort to weaker staves for a 1-v-1 fight or when he needs to focus on one enemy over another.
Odin is also a TANK so he can afford to ignore the weak welps of most any given fight to focus on the bosses but if given the chance he'll take them out first so he doesn't get flanked or caught off guard. Due to his impressive magical resistance, he'll almost always ignore any magic user who aren't using frost. Frost can still drain his stamina so he'll take them out ASAP. He need his stamina in order to keep enemy's staggered otherwise the fight will prolong.
Odin is VERY patient however and isn't above waiting an enemy out. Mage's with a Ward up, he'll hold back from attacking until the Ward drains their magic so he can stick cleanly. Warriors with a shield or two-handed weapon, he'll resort to frost and drain their stamina so they can't protect or attack as effectively.
His go-to weapon is The staff of Jyrik Gauldurson. It's got the range and power he needs to put mage's down, keep dragons grounded, and send archers crashing back! But like any good warrior he'll always keep something hidden up his sleeve so when all else fails he can and will go full warrior with a shield and Axe/Sword. Along the way, he'll use Shouts to Stagger, Disarm, Terrify or just give him the time to drop back safely. All the while keeping his companion in sight so if the chance comes up he can pick off an easy kill, team up on the biggest foe in the room or just deal some extra damage to the idiots to focused on them to prevent his ambush!

Order to acquire what; [ I played on novice to get everything set up then switched to adept ]
Step 1: The Lord Stone [ Go straight to this stone and skip the EXP stones at the start of the game. As you go check off as many locations as you can so you can fast travel to them later. This helps you go from point A to point B much faster. ]
Step 2: Savior's Hide [ This will give you a 65% magic resistance at around Lv5. ( Breton25% / Stone 25% ) This will protect you until you can get Ysgramor's shield for the full 85% ]
Step 3: Eduj &/or Okin [ You'll want these ASAP as a back up because Soul Gems are hard to find and expensive unless you're like me and looting the caravan secrets chests. Your staves might run out of charge id fight so these are nice to have just in case. ]
Step 4: Staff of Jyrik Gauldurson [ This will give you the basic build by around level 7-8. ]
Step 5: Join a war faction. [ Remember to join the faction you sided with at Helgin otherwise you can't get the Force without Effort power later AND keep the Jagged Crown. ]
Step 6: Shield of Ysgramor [ Finish off the Companions missions ASAP so you can get that 85% magic resistance. Also get cured! Odin wasn't a shifter so we'll save for the a Loki build I assure you! <3 ]
Step 7: The Jagged Crown [ Go ahead and get, and "give" it to whomever escorted you out of Hegein. You can get it back during the battle for White run. which you should go ahead and start doing now just so keep the crown. SAVE A LOT ! ]
Step 8: The Gauldur Amulet [ Go ahead and get your hands on this now before the three brothers become too powerful later. This will support you for the last leg of the build. ]
Step 9: Force without Effort [ Go ahead and get started on the main quest line. At least to this point. This is the last meager part e need. ]
Step 10: The Aetherial Crown [ If your not interested in this then you should be around lv17-20 and ready to get the real fun started. ]

Build notes: Ok so because my last build did so well I figured I should build and present a second before I lost the crowd's favor. I wanted to make something different and like my last build it had to take advantage of the games build in machines in a way most people would ignore and still be fun to play with. Then it struck me. The game has a heavy influence from the norse mythology, but after a few days of looking I only found like 3 builds, all being Thor. Poor ones at that. ( I will be making my own versions of Loki and Thor sooner or later mind you ). Buti didn't want to start off with Thor. that would be to ease and expected. I needed to take it to the next stage and drop some jaws. Thus came about Odin. The first big issue with making Odin was his spear, Gungnir. A weapon that never misses its mark.

I couldn't just ignore such a glaring issue so i compromised and opted to use staves. Mainly the Staff of Jyrik Gauldurson which was fast, had the reach and had some good power behind it. It's not perfect but its got the job done i assure you. Next was his armor and weapons. Those were much easier to make. His armor is make from trolls hide so i couldn't pass on the ironic symbolism of wearing the hide skinned from a werewolf. Plus those perks were just perfect ! As i progressed i got help from some of my FB buddy's and together we finished Odin in little under a week. My play through is lv39 now but we had everything we needed at lv17.

I hope you all enjoy and watch out for Loki. He's coming next !

A shield mage, nice! We don't have much of these here so it's gladly welcomed!

Man two of my favourite things in one build (Norse Mythology and Shieldmages). I like the way you've put this build together and the way you've shown the influence from Odin mate. You've got a pretty interesting character base here and I love that you've kept it simple enough to play at Level 17...I'd be quite interested in a late game update for the character too, it might not be needed to make it complete but I'd just be interested in a level 50 version.

I do think there are a few things you could do to make it visually look a bit better, and if you'd like I could offer a hand there. It isn't crucial in most cases, there are a few sections which are a bit hard to casually read (and by this I mean if I was playing your build and wanted to find a bit of information quickly) but the most important part of the build is that it's yours.

So I have to ask, during your playthrough have you given any thought to the use of Conjure Familiar (which sadly is underpowered as all hell)? It seems like a fairly fitting spell (Odin ---> his two wolves) at least during the early playthrough and considering you start off with the spell as a Breton it's pretty easy to use. Dunno, it might not mesh that well with the general fighting style and isn't the best gameplay oriented choice but it's an interesting thought I had.

Oh and I found some pretty cool art you might want to add (Up to you, just have some cool random picture saved and thought some could work well here).

As I play through it more and more I'm sure to do an update to at least Lv30. Lv50 is a bit much due to how fast it already got set up. I would like to know what you found hard to read tho so I can improve it better. I also wanted to avoid conjuration because early on those are easy levels plus sometimes Bretons absorb conjured creatures and I didn't want to be switching between my stave and spell only to waste the spell. but also you can take Barbas and vigilance. I avoided them due to how large their hit box is.

Hey Ohmarow this is a nice second attempt at a build.  I have to say again I like the level by level perk placement, few if any other builders take the time to outline this progression (myself included) but I like that you went that extra step.  One problem is that first section (Level 1-10) actually take 11 levels to fill, you recieve your first perk point at level 2, your second point at level 3, and so on; so you won't get your 10 perk point until level 11.

A few pet peeves of mine, i don't like apologies in builds (or any presentation for that matter) you're basically shooting yourself in the foot.  You want to project confidence and make the reader want to read your build when you start off with apologies (even for pictures) your basically saying "yeah, I know this is crap please don't read any further" don't do that to yourself.  Also I would drop that first blurb (a few quick notes) it doesn't serve the build and doesn't make me want to read your build.  The technicalities of levels is not an interesting "hook" for the reader.  The assurance that you can get these items early is clearly demonstrated within the build you don't need to assure readers of that here.  There is no reason to mention Keening at all if it's not in the build.  I would also drop the section where you tell us there i no back story, it's redundant, I can see there's no back story and there's no reason to draw attention to something that's not there.

I suggest in the first blurb you instead write a short paragraph about the inspiration of this build, or perhaps you could include a literary quote that is about Odin, or even a quick explanation of who Odin is.  You seem to assume that everyone who reads this is familiar with Odin, don't do that, assume your reader doesn't know who Odin is, you don't need a detailed account of who he is but a quick one paragraph definition would help put the reader in the right frame of mind.  On that regard I would like to see more connections between the stories and deeds of Odin and how you protrayed him in Skyrim.  You start to do this toward the end with the Spear/Staff comparison and the reason for using Saviors Hide, I like this part and would like to see it carried throughout the build.

Anyway, those are just some suggestions that I think would improve this build. Oh, and you should fix your tags, currently they don't link up with the archives which will make this build very hard to find for interested readers, check out our Archive page for instruction on how to tag your build and a list of appropriate tags to use to link this to the archives.

    Vargr White-Tree

    Hows that now ?
