    THOR

    You will be playing as the Norse Thunder God so, naturally this build will be played as a nord - I recommend to make the character as bulky as possible and give him a long red hair and beard. Since we’re dealing with a warrior-god, this is a hybrid build, using both extreme melee power and a little magic for his divine nature. Thor focuses mainly on heavy melee combat power using a hammer enchanted with shock magic (you may name it Mjölnir), but he also uses his power over thunder and lightning, represented by destruction magic (only the shock branch) and over life forces, represented by restoration (no necromancy, please, this is a hero who has deep respect for the dead in combat). The armor should be heavy, as his main tactic will be relentless direct attack, berserker style, no blocking. I`d use first the Lover stone to level up, then the Lord stone as soon as possible. The shouts of choice should be Storm Call, Elemental Fury, Unrelenting Force and Whirlwind Sprint. The blessing may be from Akatosh or Talos, depending on your choice in using more frequently the shouts or the magic.

    Skills:

    Heavy Armor –Thor will use a two-handed hammer and no blocking, so he will take a lot of punishment and will need the best protection available. Perks: Juggernaut 5/5, and all perks on the right branch.

    Two-handed – For role-playing reasons, he has to use only a hammer as weapon. Perks: All perks on the central branch of tree, and all skullcrusher 3/3

    Destruction – Again for RP reasons, only the shock branch, all of it, and the half magicka reduction perks. Eventually you can take dual-casting and impact.

    Smithing – Only the heavy armor branch. You have to take at least steel and arcane blacksmith perks – the rest is up to you, but I advise taking also dwarvish and orcish smithing.

    Restoration – Heal at will. Respite and regeneration are the best fit for his abilities, but you can also take recovery and avoid death, if you level up this skill enough.

    Enchanting – For the hammer. I recommend taking only the left and the central branches (the elemental and the skills/attributes branches) up to extra effect.

    Attributes:

    The rule to distribute attribute points is: 2x health; 2x magic; 1x stamina every five levels.

    Equipment:

    Armor: Upgraded steel armor in the beggining and, on a later phase of the game, you can use upgraded orcish armor. For the best Thor appearence I'd recomend the orcish armor set combined with the steel horned helmet (for the viking appearence), but using the orc helmet will greatly improve your armor stats. Do not take daedric, as that badass appearence doesn't become a hero like Thor, and you will easily reach the maximum in armor cap, with an orcish set, by level 40 anyway (I'm on level 35 and my armor is 517, without the orc helmet). Enchant the armor as following: boots – resist fire/ resist shock; gauntlets – two-handed/heavy armor; cuirass - destruction&magic regen/restoration&magic regen; helmet – fortify magicka/fortify destruction; ring – resist frost/resist magic; amulet – resist shock/resist fire. With this gear he will eventually be almost invulnerable to magic and magic-like abilities, as it is fit to a God.

    Weapon: Start the game with a steel hammer Mjölnir enchanted with shock damage. After taking extra effect, you should look for Longhammer in Liars' Retreat, and enchant it with shock damage and stamina absorption. Longhammer can be enchanted, I checked it personally - the enchantment won't be showed in the description, but their effects will be there, adding shock damage, with a possibilty of disintegrating the target after taking the perk disintegration, plus the absorbing stamina effect, making every hit a power atack. Unfortunately the name Longhammer can't be changed in the enchanting, but the speed of Longhammer is so fast that it surpasses easily the damage of a daedric warhamemer, making it, when enchanted and used in that way, THE BEST WEAPON IN THE GAME! Really, in level 34 I tested it by exterminating every killable guards and NPC's in Whiterun, without pausing even once for a healing or respite - it was a frightfull thing, so don't do this at home - Thor is a hero!

                                                                          Playthrough

    Thor is a renowned serpent slayer. During Ragnarök, the final battle which will bring about the end of the world, Thor fights Jörmungandr, a sea serpent so great its body surrounds the world, and kills it, walking nine steps before falling dead, having been poisoned by the serpent's venom. To norse mythology, serpent translates as dragon, and I'm pretty sure Thor's legend was one of the main sources in the elaboration of the Dragonborn character, so main quest is mandatory. I’d also take civil war quest, siding with the Stormcloaks, and Companion quest. Daedric quests are not recommended, and College of Winterfell quest must be taken only for the shock spells, but not completed. Thieves’ guild and Brotherhood quests are not possible with this character, which has virtually zero sneak skill and despises backstabbing. Other side quests may be possible, always considering the warrior aspect of the character and avoiding stealth and criminal behaviour. I will add on a later ocasion the builds for level 25 and leve 50. If you find some weakness in the playability or some new roleplaying element, feel free to mention. I know the character is a little too obvious, but obvious doesn't mean necessarily bad. And I checked the builds and couldn't find another build exploring the Thunder God, so there it goes.

    So, the stats for a Level 25 build are:

    Attributes  =  magicka = 200; health = 200; stamina = 150

    this is a pic of my Thor build in front of Talos' statue in Whiterun. And yes, I'm playing with a damned Italian version of Skyrim - don't mock me.

                                                                  Skills and Perks

    Heavy Armor 50 – Perks: Juggernaut 2/5, well fitted, tower of strength.

    Two-handed  60 –  Barbarian 3/5, Champion’s stance, Devastating blow,  Great critical charge, Skullcrusher 2/3

    Destruction 50 – Novice, apprentice, adept, augmented shock 1 /2; you may have to take training sessions to reach this level.

    Smithing 50 – Steel smithing, arcane blacksmith.

    Restoration 50 – Novice, respite, regeneration; you may have to take training sessions to reach this level.

    Enchanting 50 – Enchanter 1/5, fire enchanter, frost enchanter, storm enchanter.

                                               The stats for a Level 50 build are:

                                   Attributes  =  magicka = 300; health = 300; stamina = 200

                                                                          Skills and Perks

    Heavy Armor 80 – Perks: Juggernaut 5/5, well fitted, tower of strenght, fists of steel, cushioned, conditioning, matching set;

    Two-handed  90 –  barbarian 5/5, champion’s stance, devastating blow,  great critical charge, skullcrusher 3/3, sweep;

    Destruction 80 – novice, apprentice, adept, expert, augmented shock 2/2, disintegrate, dual casting, impact;

    Smithing 100 – steel smithing, arcane blacksmith, dwarven smithing, orc smithing;

    Restoration 60 – novice, respite, regeneration;

    Enchanting 100 – enchanter 5/5, fire enchanter, frost enchanter, storm enchanter, insightfull enchanter, corpus enchanter, extra effect.

    You may use the combination smithing/enchanting to level up and make some gold. Heavy armor/two-handed should level up naturally, as you will be hitting and taking hits all the time in close combat. Heavy armor also can be nicely leveled up taking invitations to a brawl. Don't rush and don't try to win fast - the more they hit you, the faster you will level up your heavy armor skill. Take instrutors to help leveling up your destruction and restoration skills, but give priority to destruction, as the character will need little healing in high levels.

    If I may make a suggestion, don't make the pictures attachments. They're much easier to see and look nicer whn they are simply displayed normally using the Image button.

    Very much a build fitting of Thor. Might I suggest the Longhammer as a weapon of choice? IMO, when using it, it feels like you're able to swing faster than a normal humanoid, and thus, appear to be much stronger. Elemental fury would seem like a great choice to use in conjunction with this, although you'd have to keep it unenchanted, maybe as a secondary hammer.

    Ricardo, ive read half of this and had to stop to ask you a question...

    Am i correct in saying that english is not your first language? (I'm sure i remember you saying so) Because you write it far better than alot of people who post on here!

    I'm usually slow to like builds that aren't related to elder scrolls lore in any way but your skill choices and explanations are nice, and your build offers a different flavour to most. I especially liked the part about Thor being a serpent/dragon killer. Good attention to detail!

    Yeah, i really like this! Thankyou for sharing it with us!

    I really had thought about carrying an unenchanted hammer to use with elemental fury. I hadn't thought about longhammer. it seems like a perfect choice.

    My first language is portuguese and my english is mainly for reading and writing, since I have almost no opportunity to speak it in my daily life. But I read a lot, as I am a compulsive reader, and I read mostly in english nowadays.

    Great man!

    I'll happily merge those images into your build if you would like me to?

    Thanks. I'd like to.

    Norse mythology and Skyrim seem together a bit.  Two-handed, an interesting, yet fitting, choice.   Mjolnir is a 'one-handed' weapon; but it was intended to have been a two-handed, but problems duing forging resulted in the handle being a bit too short.

    I usually keep all my play relevant to lore, so if I do play, I'll just be some heroic norseman nordman. and not Thor.

  • April 19, 2012

    The choice was determined by the game weapon system. In Skyrim, hammers are always two-handed weapons, and I didn`t feel at easy forcing Thor to fight with a mace. On the other hand, two-handed skill tree has perks more becoming to a warrior type character, and Thor representations never show him carrying a shield.

    I seem to remember some kind of cock up when forging Mjolnir too Runered! Interesting!

    Ricardo, ive found you a nice piece of artwork if you want to add it in, i had to wade through bags of garbage from the new(ish) Thor movie to find this:
