Ilari is back! He has a new armor set for taking down the fiercest Dragons and the mightiest warriors, along with a couple more changes to make him into the Dragon-Destroying machine that he is supposed to be. Ladies and gentlemen of the Vault, I am proud to re-present to you...

Ilari was a warrior in the Imperial Legion during the Great War, he was a worshiper of Talos and pledged his very soul to his worship. When the White-Gold Concordat was signed his heart was broken and he set off for Skyrim to join Ulfric's cause. He was caught on the border with the very Stormcloaks he had planned to join and was sentenced to death in Helgen.

After discovering his Dragonborn status he was soon met with the Blades Agent, Delphine, to whom he swore an oath to restore the blades to their former glory, no matter what the cost. This selfless act would one day cause him great heartache and the loss of his teacher's trust...

    ~

Ilari is a Hero, that much cannot be stressed enough, he will always take pity on beggars and does not condone racism, despite being aligned with the Stormcloaks, he believes that if he gains Ulfric's trust then he can remove segregation from Skyrim as a whole.

Speech has been dropped for Restoration, this makes the build slightly less roleplay-oriented but also makes it so that we don't have to rely on spamming potions in the midst of battle to stay alive.

Race: Imperial, not only does this fit the character's backstory, but it employs a welcome boost to all the skills we use except smithing

Stone: The Warrior --> The Lord

    Stats: 1/2/1

Major Skills: One-Handed, Heavy Armor, Block, Enchanting

    Minor Skills: Smithing, Restoration

Powers: Force without Effort, Dragon Infusion, Companion's Insight, Blessing of Talos, Voice of the Emperor, Sailor's Repose

Armor: Full Steel Plate Armor, Targe of the Blooded, Custom Ring, Amulet of Talos

    Weapons: Blades Swords

Shouts: All, excluding Kyne's Peace and Throw Voice, the former can be replaced with VotE and Throw Voice doesn't assist this build in any way.

    ~

The Steel Plate set is very underrated and one of the best looking sets in the game in my opinion, it looks exactly like what a knight should wear, especially one that slays dragons.

Visor of the Shrewd: Fortify Magicka and Fortify Restoration

Cuirass of the Resilient: Fortify Health Regen and Fortify Stamina Regen

Gauntlets of the Tenacious: Fortify Block and Fortify One-Handed

Boots of the Graceful: Fortify One-Handed and Fortify Stamina

    Amulet of Talos: Fortify Shouts

Ring of the Unbreakable: Fortify Block and Resist Magic

Targe of the Blooded: Bleeding Damage

For the weapons this build decided to go along a similar route to Mason's Sorcerer, a different weapon for each enemy type, you can find a Blades Sword in Delphine's Basement and also find 6 more in Skyhaven Temple along with the Unique Dragonbane Sword.

Blades Sword: Unenchanted - Excellent against opponents when you need speed since it can be enchanted with Elemental Fury.

Deathbane: Fire Damage and Turn Undead - Perfect for Undead opponents, causing the to run and take extra DoT.

Knightsbane: Frost Damage and Absorb Stamina - Made to take down Melee opponents, this sword can be used to take stamina back every time you use it to power attack, it also slows enemies down.

Magebane: Shock Damage and Damage Magicka - Excels against mages as it drains their Magicka supplies, making them worthless in close combat (As if they weren't already)

Dragonbane: Shock Damage and Damage Dragons - The Ultimate Dragonslaying weapon, draining their magicka supply and dealing massive damage to them.

    ~

This was Ilari at level 25, you should be able to get hold of a full set of Steel Plate Armor minus the Helmet from either Salma in Ironbind Barrow (If she dies) or from Umana in Alftand Cathedral before entering Blackreach.

Perks were not so much needed in Restoration until the later levels thanks to Sailor's Repose and a decent magicka pool.

This is the final perk selection for Ilari. Once you have your full set of Legendary Steel Plate Armor, 2/5 in Juggernaut, Well Fitted, Matching Set and the Lord Stone you should have an AR of 537, combine that with the Dragon Aspect shout you will hit Armor Cap, in addition you will have 60% magic resistance from Agent of Mara, the Lord Stone and the Ring of the Unbreakable.

Storm Enchanter, Frost Enchanter and Fire Enchanter have been taken in Enchanting for the sake of dealing more damage with Knightsbane, Deathbane and Magebane.

I chose to do the quests for this character in a specific order, there are four stages or 'Chapters' that this build goes through story-wise: Rise, War, Dilemma and Enlightenment. This is the first batch of quests, based on raising your reputation and becoming the hero:

The Blessings of Nature - Companions* - No One Escapes Cidhna Mine - The Taste of Death** - The Lost Expedition - Frostflow Lighthouse - The Book of Love - Destroy the Dark Brotherhood - College of Winterhold (Until Under Saarthal) - Dawnguard

    * Remember to cure Lycanthropy at the end of the Companions

** Kill Eola in Markarth Hall of the Dead, this will fail the quest but it will increase your reputation.

After Ilari arrived in Whiterun he decided to make himself useful and began to increase his reputation in various holds by doing good deeds, the first of which was restoring Whiterun's Gildergreen to its living state.

This set of quests I did in a VERY specific order to make it so that each time you liberated a hold, you would train and then liberate the next hold with even more power:

Join the Stormcloaks - Dragon Rising - Way of the Voice - The Battle of Whiterun - Hunt 3 Words of Power (Greybeards) - A Blade in the Dark - Liberate Falkreath - Hunt 3 Words of Power - Diplomatic Immunity - Liberate The Reach - A Cornered Rat - Hunt 3 Words of Power - Alduin's Wall - Liberate Hjaalmarch - Hunt 3 Words of Power - The Throat of the World, Elder Knowledge and Alduin's Bane - Hunt all remaining Words of Power - Liberate Haafingar - Finish the Main Quest.

"Delphine, I swear on my Dragon's Soul that I shall restore the Blades to it's former glory once again, no matter the cost. May the divines preserve my words."

Ilari's campaign with the Stormcloaks was interrupted by the discovery that he was Dragonborn, he followed his destiny with the Greybeards and the Blades, learning all he could as he liberated Skyrim from the Imperial Scourge. Eventually Skyrim was free of war and chaos and Alduin was defeated.

Peace has been restored to Skyrim, it is time to re-establish the Blades and spread the last of your honest influence throughout the nine provinces... But is there true peace? Delphine is the giver of terrible news...

Paarthurnax - Rebuilding the Blades - Dragon Hunting- The Pale Lady - Become Thane of all the Holds

Tears streamed down Ilari's face as he turned on Paarthurnax "I'm so sorry..." he said as his voice broke in sadness, he drew Dragonbane and shouted Paarthurnax from his perch...

After the battle, Ilari felt nothing but remorse, but he had no choice as he was bound by the oath he swore to Delphine all that time ago... The Greybeards banished him from High Hrothgar and he left in tears.

After you kill Paarthurnax you will not use your shouts. Not until....

After taking passage to Solstheim to see the wonders of the Land of Ash, Ilari encountered Cultists and ultimately came across Miraak, the First Dragonborn, he realised that the world needed his Thu'um and that he could use his power to cleanse the sin of killing Paarthurnax.

The Final Descent - Black Book: The Winds of Change - Unearthed - Dragonborn Main Quest - A New Source of Stalhrim - Lost Legacy - March of the Dead - Served Cold

Ilari has risen, fought, fallen and been enlightened in his time in Skyrim.

    He has become the Hero...

    The Saviour...

    The Legend...

    The One They Fear...

    The Dread of the Dovah

    ~

To play this character as it was intended to be played you will have to join the blades and give them three followers. Every follower in the game with the exceptions of Cicero, Serana and the Dark Brotherhood Initiates can become members of the blades.

I chose Lydia (The Housecarl from Whiterun), Durak (From the Dawnguard) and Aela the Huntress (From the Companions), however the choices are up to you. The smartest choice is to choose Essential Followers such as Mjoll the Lioness, etc.

You might not even use the followers, but its a matter of preference more than anything. I honestly tried taking a follower, but found they got in the way a lot. You can counter this by choosing a ranged follower such as Ranger or Mage so they don't get in the way of your attacks.

This build can have every shout in the game by using this handy glitch. l. I will reference Ponty's Guide to Dungeon Backdooring here: It will show you how to access the last word of both Slow Time and Disarm without doing the College of Winterhold or the Thieves Guild.

    Guide to Dungeon Backdooring

    ~

This build is flexible in that it can adapt to any opponent that it may face, due to having access to every shout in the game and also because of it's variety of enchantments on an already useful weapon.

Melee opponents rely on damage and stamina to attack you, therefore by keeping them away from you and biting into their stamina supply, you will be able to beat them with relative ease. Knightsbane is the perfect weapon to use against these opponents, although Frost is the most resisted element, it will still do enough damage to their stamina and health to be able to butcher them with precision.

Shouts that will help you are:

Cyclone/Unrelenting Force - These shouts can blow your enemies back, allowing you to gain distance and prepare your upcoming attacks, or if you want to heal yourself.

Become Ethereal - This shout will allow you to avoid taking damage to either gain distance, avoid a powerful attack or to attack yourself, as power attacking whilst in your Ethereal state will not drain your stamina.

Disarm - At higher levels this shout is slightly less effective, but still good for making enemies that would otherwise be a nuisance to drop their weapons and be near on defenseless.

Dismay - This shout will give you the advantage as your enemies won't fight back.

Elemental Fury - This shout will only work with the standard Blades Sword, but when used will cut your enemies down with ease.

Ice Form - This shout will freeze your enemies, allowing you to get in a few extra hits for free.

Frost Breath - As well as dealing damage, this shout also drains stamina, making it incredible against warriors.

Whirlwind Sprint - Useful for when you want to gain distance to up your advantage. (Unappreciated shout in my opinion).

Fire Breath - (Undead opponents, I also recommend using Deathbane against such enemies)

Marked for Death - Makes your enemies into complete pushovers, giving you absolute dominance in combat.

Mages rely on their magic pool and without it are quite squishy, you should approach them with Magebane and nothing but ruthless determination when you fight them, the Magicka Damage from the blade is extremely effective combined with the Shock Damage, which is boosted by Storm Enchanter.

Since this build has 60% resist magic, it will be easy enough to shrug off all but the most powerful spells in their spellbook.

    Helpful shouts would be:

Marked for Death - Makes enemies into weaklings, Flesh Spells or no.

Drain Vitality - This shout is glitched, so when an enemy is hit with it they won't regenerate magicka, making it invaluable against mages.

Become Ethereal - Can be used to avoid damage whilst closing the distance between you and your enemies, you may also use a free power attack whilst closing in.

Whirlwind Sprint - Used for gaining or closing distances between enemies.

    Fire Breath - (Dragon Priests)

Ice Form - Used to freeze enemies to close distance and also to get free hits in whilst they're down.

Ilari's true prey, Dragons... These opponents are dealt with using Dragonbane for its enormous advantage against the legendary reptiles. As stated above, the 60% resist magic will make this character resilient against Dragons as well as mages.

Shouts that would be most useful are:

Storm Call - Absolutely decimates dragons in combat, as they will take massive damage when you are unable to get to them.

Dragonrend - Obviously making dragons fall from the sky is extremely useful.

Drain Vitality - Dragons hit with this will not regenerate magicka, meaning that they cannot shout once past a certain point.

Marked for Death - As stated before, this shout makes enemies completely helpless.

    Fire Breath - (Frost Dragons)

    Frost Breath - (Fire Dragons)

Dragon Aspect - Increases your Power Attack damage by 25%, as well as a +100 AR and 25% more resistance to fire and frost.

Become Ethereal - This can be used to avoid Dragonbreath or biting attacks.

    ~

Giants have a 33% resistance to magic and are counted as Melee enemies, you should approach them as an abnormally large bandit chief. Knightsbane will be your weapon of choice against these enemies.

    Useful shouts would be:

Frost Breath - To drain their stamina and health

Animal Allegiance - To take control of nearby mammoths to fight for you.

Become Ethereal - Used to dodge their HULK SMASH attacks.

Unrelenting Force - Used to keep them at a safe distance when healing is needed.

Marked for Death - Used to make them into pushovers when you fight them.

    ~

Archers rely on range to kill you off before you have the chance to get in close, you can use any weapon you like against them really, since they don't really rely on any specific stat and rarely have anything but a dagger to defend themselves once you get in close.

    Useful shouts would be:

Unrelenting Force -To prevent them from firing at you so you can close in for the kill.

Disarm - Used to get rid of their main offensive weapon so that you can take them down no problem

Ice Form - Used to freeze them so you can, once again, close in for the kill.

    ~

Whirlwind Blade: Blades Sword + Elemental Fury - Ilari uses the precision and speed of his blade with his thu'um to devastate his foes.

Dance of the Bloody: Targe of the Blooded + Marked For Death + Deadly Bash - Ilari strikes his opponent with his shield with earthshaking force.

One They Fear: Dragon Aspect + Dragonrend + Storm Call + Dragonbane - Using the power of the his dragon soul, Ilari rips dragons from the sky and brings them down with all the power of legend.

"He stands before you now... The Legendary Warrior...." - Vegeta, Dragon Ball Z, Frieza Saga

This Revamp was a lot of fun to play, although the early game is quite grindy on Smithing and Enchanting, it is still a one hell of an emotional joyride, especially when you are banished from High Hrothgar, you'll see what I mean if you kill Paarthurnax...

quite a thorough combat guide and full game progression!

I actually didn't know giants had some magic resistance. What did you mean at the end - "not even mentioning the character"?

Thank you, Motty, you learn something new every day.

What I meant by that was it took me ages to write it up, not even mentioning the time the character itself took.
