Hello everyone! It's nearly 2016 and I was thinking about saving this one until then... But I couldn't wait! So here we go! This is based on Gandalf the Grey from Lord of the Rings. I'm not a huge LotR nerd, but I do quite like the franchise, I'm a sucker for fantasy. So here we are, my second build on the Vault:

    The Wandering Wizard

"The Grey Wizard was a young Breton mage that came from Daggerfall. He revered the Eleven Bretony Divines and swore his very life to defend their sanctity. They rewarded him with mastery over the Arcane Arts. His studies took him to Atmora, to the north, where he studied for decades. Now an old man he journeyed to Skyrim, he had felt a great tremor from Aetherius, something was very wrong. He traveled along the Western Borders between Morrowind and Skyrim and was caught by the Imperials. He woke up in a carriage driven by a horse across from a man in blue."

    Build

This character will be making use of blocking with a Staff and wielding a one-handed sword whilst casting magic to bolster your defenses, recover from damage, bend the will of others and increase the power of your gear, all this combined with speech to get your way with people, Gandalf does show this assertiveness several times, E.G. taking control of the soldiers in  Minas Tirith. Since Gandalf is an angel in the LotR lore I have tried to make him into a sort of Crusader that hunts undead because they disgrace the divines that he serves, this is the result.

Note: I strongly recommend having Dawnguard installed if you want to play this build, for the sake of roleplay. It isn't essential but it makes combat much easier.

Race: Breton (Race doesn't really matter but I chose Breton for resistance)

    Stats (M/H/S): 3/2/1

Skills: Restoration, Alteration, Illusion, Block, One-Handed, Speech. Enchanting

Stone: The Mage --> The Lord (This will grant 50% magic resistance) or the Atronach (For the Extra Magicka)

Shouts: Animal Allegiance, Aura Whisper, Disarm, Slow Time, Become Ethereal, Unrelenting Force.

Spells: Ebonyflesh, Pacify, Grand Healing, Vampire's Bane, Stendarr's Aura, Bane of the Undead, Candlelight, Guardian's Circle, Rally.

Passives/Powers: Ethereal Spirit, Sailor's Repose, Blessing of Mara, Archmages Authority, Bones of the Earth, Root of Power, Dragonskin.

Quests: Frostflow Abyss, College of Winterhold, Main Quest, Dragonborn, Dawnguard, Civil War (Either Side as long as you can thing of a justifiable reason).

    Level 50 Perkspread: Here

    Equipment

Circlet: Fortify Alteration and Fortify Illusion

Archmages Robes: Already enchanted with Fortify Spells, Fortify Magicka and Fortify Magicka Regen

Amulet of Mara: Already enchanted with Fortify Restoration

Gloves: Fortify Block and Fortify Magicka

Ring: Fortify Block and Fortify One-Handed

Boots: Fortify One-Handed and Resist Shock

Unenchanted Staff of Destruction (You can buy this from Neloth at Tel Mithryn)

Steel Sword (Glamdring): Turn Undead and Banish

    Combat

Combat here basically meant switch between staff and spell in your off-hand and attack with your sword. Undead enemies and Daedra are your primary targets, Daedra will be very easy to dispense of due to the Banishment enchantment on your sword (Which isn't available until late game, sadly) and undead will be even easier what with the restoration spells this build uses.

You won't be relying on shouts too often, but here are the uses anyway

    • Aura Whisper: This shout makes it so that you cannot be surprised in ruins, it will also show which Draugr are lying in wait and you can attack them before they awake.
    • Animal Allegiance: This shout allows nearby animals, including Mammoths, to come to your rescue, this is very useful against Giants and sometimes even against dragons. (You can make these temporary allies stronger with Rally)
    • Become Ethereal: I used this shout to avoid being damaged whilst charging up Guardian's Circle and Bane of the Undead. It can also be used for a single free power attack.
    • Slow Time: Useful for dodging overpowering attacks or to gain some distance from opponents so you can heal.
    • Disarm: You can use this shout to disarm opponents that usually would be too much of a pain to kill, usually the higher level bandits, this shout becomes less and less useful as you acquire levels, however.
    • Unrelenting Force: Used purely for crowd control, this can be very useful when used correctly.

You will be using your shield to block, with a single point in Shield Wall in addition to the Fortify Block enchantments, you should hit the block cap (85%).

You will want to open every battle with a Flesh Spell (Your Armor Rating should be 350 after 3/3 in Mage Armor, Ebonyflesh and the Lord Stone). I strongly recommend hotkeying your spells and staff (Set them to 1, 2, 3, etc), allowing you to switch between spell and staff in your off-hand with ease.

You can use Pacify on any opponent to either make them easier to kill or to avoid combat completely, this will only work on lower level opponents, however (Up to level 28 with the Animage and Kindred Mage perks)

Obviously your Dawnguard Sun Magic is your main offence against undead (Stendarr's Aura, Vampire's Bane, etc).

    Combo's

Holy Arm - Become Ethereal + Glamdring + Power Attack Calling on the power of his Gods, the Wandering Wizard strikes a powerful blow without consuming any energy.

Wild Call - Animal Allegiance + Rally The Wandering Wizard summons animals to aid him in the midst of battle.

Vigilance - Aura Whisper + Vampire's Bane + Necromage Using his divine power, The Wandering Wizard seeks out the surrounding enemies and obliterates them with his holy magic.

YOU SHALL NOT PASS! - Become Ethereal + Stendarr's Aura + Guardian's Circle+ Dragonskin + Necromage  The Wandering Wizard gathers his power and releases it all at once to obliterate the undead in his path.

This was my second contribution to the Vault, The Wandering Wizard, which was based on Gandalf the Grey from LotR. I hope that you enjoyed it, I really do. If you have any questions ask in the comments, I'd love to answer your questions! Early Happy New Year to you all!

Awesome work Flutterborn, would be interesting if you had added a second section, based around Gandalf the White.

Thank you so much, Chris! I was thinking about doing Gandalf the White, but the only fitting robes in Skyrim are the Psijic Robes, which can't be obtained normally...

    Brohoof to you too!

Hmm, that is true. Or the Moth Priest Robes, but same problem.

And even then, I don't know what gameplay changes I would make for him.

I guess this should suffice for a build though, I suppose

Hey good work on a nice little crossworlds style build.

Just a couple of minor formatting corrections - your stat distribution isn't showing. Lord stone grants 25 magic resist, 50 AR, not 50% magic resist.

One nice little addition to your "you shall not pass" ability might be triggering dragonskin. Guardian Circle will actually refill your magicka as a Breton.

Oh, no I was saying that it stacked with the Breton race to create 50% magical resistance

And that is a good idea, I'll add that in.

    Thank you motty!

Maybe make some MLP based builds?
