    Thanks J Mac...

As Sam already said you need to drink the buff and then immediately activate the stone. On any future visits when you go to 'upgrade' the effect you would need to visit another stone (like the warrior stone) to switch off the previous effect and then re-select the atronach stone under the a better potion...

    Thanks Jack,

Yeah, Bronzie got a little pissy about that ancient knowledge perk...

The wait was definitely worth it! This is even better than the original IMO! +1

Mason, how often did you use the bow and crossbow? Weren't the Ignite and Freeze enough for ranged offense?

    Thanks Vaz!

I haven't placed any emphasis on ranged combat at all but I did use the crossbow a fair bit, I just really enjoyed its flavour and aesthetic and I'm not likely to create another dwarven armor build...

Dragons mostly! There are certain areas where the buggers simply refuse to land for me to spank em! Dragons are massive targets so archery perks aren't really needed.

Black bow of fate was selected because I enjoyed the mission and it's magicka stealing is sometimes handy when you're running low, the bulky dwarven quiver strapped to your back looks A+!

It's just nice to have a bow! Even if you aren't packing the damage of a dedicated archer!

So I am level 17 now, getting his equipment in order. 3rd stage Elemental Fury obtained. Guy straight dominates. Did the quest for spellbreaker and had to laugh at the ease of it. One question though; what was your strategy with the Atherial Shield? Was it as simple as shield bash the bandit chief so you can wipe out his minions first?

There are a couple of things to know about that Aetherial Shield that I will be detailing on shortly in the build...

Firstly, if you take the Disarming Bash perk it changes the properties of the A shield to this...

    Quick Bash = Turn ethereal.

Power Bash = Damage & Disarm attempt only.

This makes the shield a damn site more useful because YOU decide when you want to use its effect. You can disarm an enemy and then a quick bash will send them running (away from their dropped weapon).

The second, and this makes the shield an absolute BASTARD, is that Marked for Death continues to burn the soul out of things while ethereal.

Marked for Death + a quick bash from the A Shield will RUIN anything!

    Oh, and the third...

It can dismiss Mr Karstaags blizzard!

Not gonna lie, Mason: I preferred the original and found its focus a lot more refined before. IMO, it was the paradigm of defensive builds on this site: an impenetrable fortress of steel and sorcery stalking its foes slowly and methodically with shield raised, deflecting blows, absorbing spells and returning fire (literally). You chose the right race, got the right gear and found your stone, and from then on you simply tanked your way through the game unstoppably. That singular defensive focus and the synergy it brought seem lost in the mix now, between the offensive shift and all these new bells and whistles like unperked archery and dual-wielding and enchanted equipment hunting and so on (though some of the new gear does fit pretty awesomely). I guess the original just instilled this imagery of a Sentinel archetype in my mind as this impervious, machinelike behemoth from whom enemies could run but couldn't hide - any lack of offense was made up for by its relentlessness - and now the focus is a bit more all over the map. Don't get me wrong: this is still a badass mofo right here and you couldn't make a bad build if you tried your hardest, Mason. It just doesn't fill the same niche it used to for me and so I miss the original. But luckily you did give us the Obsidian Sentinel to fill that niche anyway! So kudos for turning Bethesda's lemons to lemonade, I just wish they wouldn't piss on our builds to begin with. You still did an awesome job at giving them a big old "fuck you" right back for it though. Still and always +1 for this guy.
