First I’m really sorry that this is late, I had a slight misunderstanding about the due date (totally my fault, not trying to lay the blame elsewhere). That said I loved playing this build. The skills might suggest it but otherwise, but it’s not just a hated sneak archer, I felt that it was a great challenge to play… Hope you enjoy.

The ranger was an orphan who spent much of his childhood in Hjaalmarch.  He was raised in the inn in Morthal and the citizens took care of him for many years, he also learned a basic understanding of alchemy. When he reached the age of seventeen he left Morthal to explore. He generally hunted to survive while he traveled the lands of Skyrim, and he became skilled with a bow. He eventually found his way to Cyrodil and traveled around there for a while. He eventually heard about the civil war in Skyrim and traveled back there to help the imperials protect his hometown Morthal form the Stormcloaks. On his way back he was captured on the border and taken to Helgen…

This build is, at its best an agile archer and swordsman, flitting in and out of combat and snapping of quick shots then rolling to a new position (doesn’t always have to be away from the target). It doesn’t take forever to get to this point either. Although he has very low armor he combats this by avoiding direct hits, preferring instead, to fight in a more agile fashion.

You will need very high stamina for all the rolling and zooming with your bow. Also it isn’t perked but I used alteration for candlelight and Oakflesh exclusively, this build spends allot of time in the wild and it just seemed fitting.

Race: Wood Elf, kind of obvious for the skill boosts, and the racial power is nice as well.

Stats: 0:1:1 until you have two hundred of each, then switch to 0:1:2.

Standing stone: Lord… That extra resistance is going to be really useful.

Major Skills: Archery, Sneak, Alchemy, and one handed.

Minor Skills: Smithing, Light Armor, and Block.

Equipment: Hat(the green hood variant), Hjaalmarch guard armor, scaled bracers, and scaled boots. For weapons go with a Nord Hero bow and Whatever sword General Tulius gives you at the end of the Civil War questline, or a Nord Hero sword.

Thanks to FishDout for the equipment spread.

Archery: This is the main form of combat for the Sentinel, you will take every perk in this tree. Prioritize steady hand and eagle eye.

One Handed: Your source of melee damage. Your going to want to take: Armsmen 5/5, Bladesman 3/3, Fighting Stance, and savage strike. Don’t just stand there and hack, try not to get hit.

Sneak: Your initiator, use this to set up battles and to help with agility (Silent Roll). Take: Stealth 5/5 and the entire left side of the skill tree.

Smithing: Use this to upgrade weapons and armor, pretty self explanatory. Take: Steel Smithing and Arcane Blacksmith.

Alchemy: Making powerful potions and poisons will help a lot.

Take: Alchemist 5/5, Physician, Benefactor, Experimenter 2/3, Poisoner, Concentrated Poison, and Snakeblood.

Light Armor: Used for better defense. Take: Agile Defender 5/5.

Block: Used occasionally with your sword. Take: Shield Wall 3/5.

                                                                           Gameplay and Roleplay

Be as agile as possible in combat. Utilize silent roll and Steady Hand. Paralyze poisons are your best friend. When it comes to the sword, don't get hit without full light armor and not many light armor perks you will be very easy to kill.

Protect Hjaalmarch, I had plenty of fun simply patrolling the swamps and doing Misc. quests. You want to help Morthal so definitely sleep in the inn there.

Also do bounties for the jarl as much as possible.

You help Whiterun kill the dragon but you you many other settlements(Morthal), are in more danger so they are first priority.

Again big thanks to FishDout for the equipment spread.

This is my first build so go easy on me. Thanks for reading.

It's sweet that you choose Hjaalmarch... that place gets even less love than Falkreath. I think a ranger-esque character was the perfect choice, and I'm willing to bet that patrolling the hold and taking on bounties was pretty fun.

If I had any suggestions to make for this build it would be to give us an idea of what patrolling the hold was like. For example, how did you decide to go about it? What were some of the really cool things that happened while you did it? What was the hardest part of patrolling the Hjaalmarch... most difficult threats? Any particular quests that fit in really well with this build?

I really like this concept, and I was hoping beyond hope that someone would tackle Morthal and it's hold, so I'm stoked that you took it on (and in the direction you did)... I just would have liked to experienced more of it ;D

Still, an easy +1 from me for a tough area and a natural approach to it:D

"Patrolling the gold" that's interesting Shin, now how do you go about this? Do we just pile up all the gold we can find and walk around it making sure that no one can steal any?

I have a LOT of gold... xD Dang it, though, I read through that reply and edited out the many autocorrect mistakes my phone made for me. That was one... now I wish I'd left it in ;D

I agree with ShinJin about the Hjaalmarch choice. I mean, who really hangs out in Morthal, or anywhere near it for that matter? +1 for me!

I love ranger based builds. The only bad thing I can say has already been said. I would have liked to have had a bit more of a feel for what you did while patrolling. +1
