Character Building Contest #3: Holds

After a nearly two year hiatus, Character Building Contests are back! Unlike the Events, contests have winners. Furthermore, whereas Events have fairly broad themes to build around, contest themes will be more restrictive for increased challenge, as you’ll soon find out.

First of all, credit goes to Ben C for this idea; he posted it over a year ago and I thought it was pretty neat. Anyway, for this Contest, participants will be making builds that reflect in some manner the culture of a hold of their choosing. The nature of the relationship between the build and the chosen hold is entirely up to the participant. They can be a champion of that hold, have a grudge against that hold's jarl, pretty much anything you can come up with. While participants aren't limited to doing things only in their chosen hold, their character should focus on it. Furthermore, for purposes of this contest, Solstheim will count as a hold, with Raven Rock being the hold capital.

You may work by yourself or in a team with other members; I strongly recommend teaming up with people from groups like Art, Lore, or Roleplaying if you want to create something truly great!

    First Place - Gold

    1. A build video done by HeroicXCV for the submitted build.
    2. Screenshots done by Elysium for either the submitted build or another build of the winners' choice
    3. A front page feature
    4. "Contest Gold" tag for the submitted build

    Second Place - Silver

    1. Screenshots done by Elysium for either the submitted build or another build of the winners' choice
    2. A front page feature
    3. "Contest Silver" tag for the submitted build

    Third Place - Bronze

    1. A front page feature
    2. "Contest Bronze" tag for the submitted build

    Rules and Guidelines

    1. Participants that are new to character building must read and understand both the Group Rules and Character Building Guide. I also recommend that you take a look at this Build Template in order to get a good idea of how to format your contest build.
    2. You may work on your own or in a team. You can even come up with a team name if you like!
    3. Builders must register in this discussion in order to participate. Do not tell us what hold you plan on doing; keep it a surprise!
    4. Contest builds must be posted between the 25th of August, 12:00 AM EST and the 1st of September, 12:00 AM EST.
    5. Contest builds must have “Contest Build:” at the beginning of their title rather than the normal “Character Build:” one. As this is a change from previous contests, the CB hosts will change the titles of earlier contest builds accordingly. However, contest builds will still use the regular rank tags.
    6. Submitted builds must include a Contest3 tag.
    7. The CB hosts reserve the right to exclude a build from the contest if it doesn't adequately fit the theme.
    8. One week after the deadline for posting contest builds, we'll check how many likes each one has. The build with the most likes wins.

If you have any questions about the contest then feel free to post them in the comments below and one of the CB hosts or someone else will answer it for you.

Worst time to tempt me back into Character Building, especially when the deadline is during the time I go on vacation.

I don't know if I will participate in this, but the best possible scenario for me would be to team up with somebody that will do the game-play testing.  I can make good presentations and/or artsy-fartsy pictures.

Give in Skally. You know you want to. The people demand to see more of your work.

Soliciting me for my "services" eh?

Like I said, best possible scenario is teaming up with another person.  My time is going to be a little too occupied to do any real build-testing. #EndorsementDeals #OxyClean #JUSTDOIT

Unless one of the other hosts disagree with me on this, I'm going to go ahead and say no limit. If you want to win the contest, I'd imagine that you'd be better off posting one really good build rather than trying to split your time and effort between a bunch of them. And yeah, there's no level limit.

Just keep it to one hold

If you can crank out two builds from scratch in a month the quality will definintely suffer. We shortened the event/contest duration to discourage multiple entries.

Minor update to the contest: we'll see how many likes each build has and declare a winner one week after the deadline for posting contest builds, as opposed to the previously stated 24 to 48 hours.

    skally plz do dis

Dude, you're more than welcome to join Tae and I. We've got some pretty decent ideas brewing already and I'm sure you could help polish them up a bit. I'd love to see you getting involved in building again in any capacity ... So what better way to make it happen than to have you join us?!
