    The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
    The Noble Thief

    Name: Pauran
    Race: Bosmer
    Class: Thief/Assassin

I lived in High Rock all my life. My familiy earned it`s coin from Silvershaw Mine, a dark, gritty cave just outside our village. Me and my brothers were always around in the mine, helping our father in any way we could. Already back then I had great respect for his commitment to work, his only way to provide for the familiy. We were not wealthy by any means, but thanks to my father we never went to bed hungry.

I still remember waking up to my mother screaming in the middle of the night. The fire from the torches outside lit up my room. I could barely see their faces. I knew immediately who they were, nevertheless. Bandits, of course. My father was desperately talking to the leader, a tall and muscular man with a long, black beard. To this day i still remember the smirk on his face. Varnar, that was his name.

They left with all of our gold on their backs. All our valuables, weapons, everything. My father was of course devastated. I feared our familiy would not make it. I wanted to do something, to help in any way I could. The richest familiy in the village was the Silver-Bloods, orginally hailing from Markath. They treated everyone poorly because they were, according to themselves of "superior blood". I made up my mind that very night.

The stars shined upon my face, as I looked at the Silver-Blood residence. I took a deep breath and started climbing. All the way to the top, never looking down. I sneaked in through the top window, luckily for me the room was empty. There was a display case in the left corner, it appeared to be unlocked. As I moved towards it, something quite extrodinary caught my eyes. It was a golden crown, filled with several precious gems, 24 in total. The crown of Barenziah. Without hesitition I grabbed the crown and started heading for the exit. I heard a sound behind me, and I quickly turned around. It was Halfdgeir, the residence owner. He unsheated his sword. I grabbed the crown with both my hands, it was quite heavy. Before his sword found his way to my heart, I smashed his face with the crown. There was blood all over the place. Not only was I now a thief, I was also a murderer.

The next day i sold the crown the to our local merchant. I recieved 1500 septims for it, though it was probably worth more than that. I left the money in a bag outside my parents bedrom, before i gathered my things and headed out the front door, never to return. I knew I had dishonored my father and the rest of the familiy. They could never knew what I had done. I lived in exile in the woods, hunting for food and warm clothes. In my travels I met an old man who taught me about the art of illusion. This was much needed for my to stay out of the guards hands. The entire village was of course looking for me. I headed out for the border to the cold and bitter land of Skyrim. But before i reached the border, I was ambushed by guards of the imperial legion. I guess the Silver-Blood familiy or the guards must have tipped them off. I woke up in a cart, not knowing where I was headed, though I had my suspicions. I knew this though, I deserved whatever they had in store for me.

    About the build:

This is in many ways a pretty straightforward thief build, but our friend here have a more open mind towards killing. Especially bandits are shown no mercy, due to Pauran`s past traumas. He pitys the weak and poor, and uses every opportunity to give to beggers and help families with their troubles. He uses paralysis and slow poisons to render the enemies he won`t kill helpless. You`ll want to join the Thieves Guild early on and make a home for yourself in Riften. You should take any quest that involves a promise of a reward, which you will use to give to the poor and further improve your skills and gear. I also highly encourage you to do the Stones of Barenziah quest, due to our thief`s previous encounter with it.

    Gameplay:

Pauran is a lonely wolf. He mostly spends his time traveling the wilds, looking for treasures and people in need. He will never start a fight, but will protect himself when in need. This does not mean you`ll want to kill with no purpose though. You can choose to simluate knocking your enemy unconsious. You`ll want to use enchanting to place fortify unarmed on your gear. As I said, bandits are shown no mercy with this build, so you`ll wipe out all the bandit camps you come across in your travels.

He never faces an opponent head on if he has a choice. Carefully scout out the area, plan an exit route and started taking your opponents out one by one by placing poisons in their pockets or taking them out with the bow from a distance. He rarely pulls out his daggers, and never in open combat. They are only used for deadly stealth attacks our thief wouldn`t be strong enough enough to face otherwise. Frenzy spells are used if there are several opponents at once you can`t sneak by, and calm spells are used if somebody you don`t want to kill attacks you.

The character is to some degree inspired by Robin Hood. This essentially means that you should steal from or pickpocket rich people and give to the poor. I like to pickpocket gold onto random people on the street if they aren`t beggers and you don`t have the dialogue option to give it to them.

    Skills & Perks:
Sneak: Stealth 1/5, Backstab, Deadly Aim, Assassin`s Blade
    One-Handed: Armsman 5/5
Archery: Overdraw 5/5, Critical Hit 3/3, Hunter`s Dicipline, Ranger, Bullseye, Eagle Eye, Steady Hand 2/2, Quick Shot
    Alchemy: Alchemist 5/5, Physician, Benefactor
Pickpocket: Light Fingers 1/5, Night Thief, Extra Pockets, Poisoned
Illusion: Novice Illusion, Apprentice Illusion, Adept Illusion, Expert Illusion, Illusion Dual Casting, Animage, Kindred Mage, Quiet Casting, Master of the Mind, Hypnotic Gaze, Aspect of Terror, Rage
Light Armor: Agile Defender 5/5, Custom Fit, Matching Set
Smithing: Steel Smithing, Dwarven Smithing, Orcish Smithing, Arcane Smithing, Ebony Smithing
Enchanting: Enchanter 5/5, Insightful Enchanter, Corpus Enchanter, Extra Effect
    Total of 67 perks.

    Stat distribution: 2 Magicka (untill you`ve reached 200), 2 Health, 1 Stamina

(Smithing and enchanting are completely optiminal here, but I prefer to create and improve my own gear rather than taking it from corpses.)

    Gear:
    - Nightingale Hood (Fortify Illusion)
    - Nightingale Armor (Resist Frost & Fortify Stamina)
    - Nightingale Gloves (Fortify Lockpicking & One-Handed)
    - Nightingale Boots (Fortify Muffle)
    - Ebony Dagger (Absorb Health & Absorb Stamina)
    - Ebony Dagger (Fiery Soul Trap & Frost Damage)
    - Ebony Bow (Fire & Frost Damage)
    - Necklace (Fortify Illusion & Resist Magic)
    - Ring (Fortify Archery & Sneak)

Again it is completely up to the player which weapons and enchantments one wishes to utilize. Ebony weapons make sense to from the RP aspect, and they match perfectly with the Nightingale armor.

This is essentially the build. It is by far my favorite type of character to play in Skyrim, and I hope you will find it enjoyable as well. Feel free to change the backstory and perk spread, and also come with any questions you might have.

Before I read further in just letting you know that due to the Character Building Rules you must name your Build with Character Build at the start (in this case Character Build: The Noble Thief)

    Thanks, I fixed it now

It was shorter then I thought so I've finished reading that. I will say that you should include Gameplay and Combat sections somewhere in there. At the moment I have no idea how this character fights (or if he does much at all)  Take a look at some other builds to see how they do these sections and, well don't copy them but use the style.

At the moment it's an interesting Backstory with some skills and equipment but not much more. With less then an hour's work I reckon you could get thus up to a fairly good style as what you have so far is very interesting.

I will add on that Enchanting sort of seems like a wasted skill because you have a pre-enchanted Armour on but it's  up to you in the end.

Thanks for the suggestions, I will keep working on it then

Tiny thing, just change the  -  in the title to a  :  we do it just to keep everything neat

This build is mostly backstory and roleplay tips. You dont mention anything that sets this guy apart from other thieves. Its fine if mechanically the build lacks anything unique, but unfortunately the backstory lacks any unique elements.

Bandits killing parents is a very common backstory angle. Simply making it so the characters parents are still alive would go a long way to making the story unique.

Getting back to mechanics. Its fine if this is just the standard thief, but you need to give people, who may find themselves playing this build, some information on how to handle various enemy types.

Perhaps I wasn`t clear enough but the bandits never killed the parents. Thanks for your suggestions though, I will keep working on it.

This feels more like a profile than a build.

This, it is basically a generic thief with a unique backstory, try looking at other builds , people use glitches, unique playstyles, weapons, spell focuses, etc. to make builds differ from basic archetypes.
