Youse guys crack me up! xD But think of the little ShinJins: if I run off with the DLC, I can only assume that the Missus would die of grief, and where does that leave the little ones... with Grelod the kind. No, best to roll old school moderately than to... not to. Besides, TES VI is going to show up one day, and I don't want the place all boarded up while the game peers through dusty windows wondering where I am ;D

This is terrific.  Another great piece of creativity, combined with lots of my favourite skills means that this definitely gets my attention .  I have never heard of this series before, but the way in which you've linked it into Skyrim is excellent.  The back story is very convincing, and engaging.  It makes me really want to play this character.

I would venture to suggest that this is probably your best build so far, and that's saying something because you've put together a lot of really good builds prior to this.  Something about this is just captivating though.

    A great job.

Thank you so much, Irissa... that means a lot :D Lozhar and I had a lot of fun playing this, and as you said, having an inspiration source really does a lot to infuse a certain feel into the build that might otherwise be missing (and it almost auto-writes backstory and roleplay into the build--another bonus ;D).

I love how this build worked out. +1 from me, for creating a bad-ass character referencing one of my favourite fantasy series

I like the use of Barbas as the Disreputeable Dog, and the Seven Bells too. I wish that Astarael/Become Ethereal was more dangerous to use in the context. It doesn't really force others into death, you just... stay outside of it?

I can't express how much I love this build. Good job, guys!

You're welcome :). I'm so inspired that I'm going to take a break from the build I've been trying to make work, and have a go at this.

I've looked up some images from the Lirael book, and noted the red robes.  I was wondering whether the non-hooded Mythic Dawn robes might also be suitable for this character?  They might clash with the Glass Gauntlets and Boots though, which do look rather stylish with those College Robes.

Mythic Dawn robes would certainly work, but I'd probably replace glass with elven gear (which is easier to obtain anyhow). Zach pointed out another option for those who have the DLC: Dunmer clothes. They're probably closer in design to Lirael than the college robes, but still have an adventure-y look to them. Brewmaster recently posted a pic for his version, and it looks pretty boss! He opted for blue Dunmer clothes, though, in order to create a cross between Sabriel and Lirael (he calls her Librael xD). Thanks for the kind words, Keniree :D

I'm so stoked to keep finding others who have read the series!

As you noticed, some things translated wonderfully into Skyrim, while others had to be changed fairly significantly. Astarael would probably have been more accurately depicted using Marked for Death, but we needed that for "The Walker." Lozhar and I also felt the concept of the Abhorsen's ability to enter death would best be depicted through Become Ethereal. That ability isn't one of the bells' powers, but we made up our own powers (The Mourner and The Finder in particular) because some of the bells are a bit ambiguous in nature, or just didn't translate into Skyrim to our satisfaction.

I've played around with this build up to level 26 so far.  Great fun.  Barbas is really annoying though, but in a good way .  Runes are pretty nasty.  The only downside is they make a hell of mess in enclosed spaces .  They make great explosions though.

It has made me want to actually get my build for a sorceress of light to work (yes, I am still working on that).  One of these days.
