I started a variant of this build the other day and it is addicting as all get out. I'm playing it more as the classic Sun WuKong, trickster type so I focused on Block and left Restoration out. (I ran it as Imperial--a very monkeylike Imperial is possible!) The hardest part is getting a low-level unarmored guy to Solstheim and through the opening phase of Dragonborn alive. Neloth won't sell unless he's home, and to get him home, the Sun Stone has to be cleared. Luckily, this is a build that welcomes followers so that helped quite a bit. I had to carry a full set of armor in case things got hairy, but one could potentially just knock the difficulty down until the staff is acquired.

All that said? The staff combat is awesome! Being perked out in block to get Quick Reflexes makes even the low level damage of this character workable. Eventually a Disarming Bash will even the playing field against those tough guys with 2 handers.

Sorry if this is a repeat question, but does a kill cam ever activate with off-handing a staff? I assume I'll have to unequip it when facing low health enemies if I want to see those sweet beatdowns. Great build!

I recently played this build and I agree with you, the staff combat is awesome! But sorry to break it to you, you never get a finishing blow (Kill cam) when using the staff.

Also I love the idea of the classic "Sun WuKong" playstyle you have chosen to play as, I didn't get round to this but if you're not going to perk restoration or use it for that matter there are 2 things you could add to your playthrough.

    1) You could add the shout "Fire Breath" to your shouting arsenal and get Parthunax's extra damage ability and the black books ability to one increase the damage but 2, you mentioned facing enemies with low health just to see them "sweet beatdowns" well the black books power is that when you kill an enemy using the fire breath shout it summons a fire wyrm (A Fire dragon like version of the frost wraith) to attack for you.

    2) Getting training in destruction to unlock 2 spells, the flame cloak and the whirlwind cloak would both be useful for an unarmed character.

Thanks for the suggestions. This build won't be using any destruction magic, instead relying on Block as my main skill. DPS will come from unarmed and Block Bash only. To replicate the trickster aspect of the legendary Monkey King, I'm using the Oracle's focus on Illusion magic. Shouts serve to replicate his more magical powers, namely the Dragon summoning shouts, Ice Form, Whirlwind Sprint, Storm Call, and Cyclone.

Dwarven gauntlets and boots will make up his armor, along with the Aetherial Crown--though any circlet can function as the 'Magical Headband' that is used to control the rowdy Monkey King. Dwarf gear is the closest to the 'golden armor' the Dragon King of the West Sea gives Wukong in Journey to the West. Thanks again for the suggestions, and to the author Alastor--Thanks for an inspiring build!

Thanks for thinking off and creating this build. I am having fun. Making people (bandits) just calm down.

Or enraging the local fauna when travelers pass them. ( I like being a mischievous monk.)

But what is weird I play on PC and I have been getting the Damaging Staff poke, it also only seems to affect humanoid enemies in a severe way. The hostile fauna of Solsteim mostly shrugged it off.

Once again thanks for a great build that provided me with entertainment.

All images have been restored for this build. While I try my best to keep the formatting as close to the original as possible, there are some unavoidable differences as a result of differing platforms... for this I apologize.

Also, please feel free to remove the 'Restored' banner at the end of the build--I put it there as a courtesy to let the reader know that the build has been worked on by somebody other than its original creator without his or her knowlege.

All that said, I was super-excited to get the images back into this build, buddy... I enjoyed reading this one almost as much as the Transient Sorcerer! And remember... we've still got a hapless rougue to finish up ;D
