I'm torn between the two myself. They were definitely my two favorite playthroughs and probably the builds I played the longest. I think for the sheer difficulty and great roleplay that I'll have to hand it to the Vancian Wizard. I love the idea of runnin out of spells as opposed to waiting for Magicka to recharge. I'm a sucker for the classics I suppose :) Maybe my V-Wiz will make it into the Mage Hall of Fame

Hahaha you're probably right. There is no anthem more suited to a build than this instance.

Alright, I like your idea, but you say it's tough to level up, and I can see why. I mean, if I could enchant my gear to basically reduce the cost of my spells to nothing, then that be a whole other story, but I can't. How do i level everything up quickly, especially Enchanting?

I find that Enchanting is one of the easier skills to level. Just buy empty petty soul gems whenever you see em, go around soul trapping crabs or deer, go to a smith, buy some iron ore and leather strips, make some daggers and enchant them. You'll earn your money back by selling enchanted daggers to said smith. Illusion and Alteration will level naturally through flesh spells and muffle. If I have extra Magicka in battle I like to cast extra flesh spells for the experience, say for instance against a measly wolf. Spam Muffle in towns and out of battle. Resto, Block, and Conj. aren't going high so don't worry too much about them. Though I do like to get Quick Reflexes early which you can do by grabbing a shield and training with a draugr: block, heal, repeat. Destruction will need trained early on. If you have extra money from selling enchanted daggers go to Wuunferth in Windhelm. I trained Destruction early and Speech mid-playthrough at the Bard's College. Once you hit a certain level in Speech (50?) you can do the ol' persuade-a-guard trick to level Speech super fast. Plus selling expensive items like enchanted daggers will help speech level. It all works out man. Ultimately, your biggest goal is to be able to Ash Shell your Familiar and kick out some uber flames. So you'll need 50 Alt for Ash Shell, 50 Illusion for Aspect of Terror to boost Flames, and 60 Destruction for Augmented Flames. This will get you through anything so I'd prioritize it and once you become comfortable start working on other strategies like Marked for Death and using your Familiar as a full-time pet. It's a pretty fun build once you bring those certain pieces together. Let me know how it goes Friend :)

Alright, you convinced me. I think I may also eventually go for the Werewolf form since it basically covers whatever this build cannot do.

But, there is a slight problem. That quest "Blood on the Ice" is bugged and glitched to hell. Did you somehow get through it without issues, beecause I never was able to complete it, no matter how many playthroughs I had, so I just ignored it.

I didn't have any problems with it personally. I think it just progresses in a weird way. To start it you have to visit Windhelm three times. This will happen naturally if you're getting Destruction training here. The other problem with it is getting the Necromancers Amulet which we won't use anyway so who cares if you miss that step. And if you put Wuunferth in jail you just have to wait until another girl is killed to release him. I think that happens the next night after you jail him. The quest isn't necessary by any means except to the RP of the build. Lycanthropy would be a nice addition to the build, kind of a mix between this and Ponty's Shaper. I did fine without it but I'm sure it'll come in handy.

Early Game- Summon Familiar, Shout Marked for Death, kite around enemies casting Flames in bursts. If you're okay with using daggers they help early on in case you run out of Magicka. Use Dual Cast Fury on groups when possible. Mid-End Game- Mirage -> Flames Galore Another cool trick is using Fury and Ash tomb on a bandit chief/etc. The chief is weakened and distracts his comrades. Easy clean up for you. Marked for Death Lvl works great with your familiar, so long as you can keep him alive or just recast when necessary. Without the Quick reflexes perk you won't be able to use the temporal bind trick which is a great time staller in big battles but even the basic slow time is useful for that. It's a pretty minimalistic build but feel free to make changes as you go. Maybe pick up an elemental stave or Wabbajack if your offense is lacking. Let me know if you have any problems and I can provide further help :)

It's nice to still see this build pop up in the feed every so often... of all the mage builds I've played, this one is still my favorite.

I'd love to see this thing go double Legendary ;D

What and exiting, challenging  and ever changing game play!  My familiar from being active and attacking, later become just an object of ash shell spell, and when enemy got busy with him , my sorcerer just Mark them and / or burned them. I've played the build once, didn't go very far, made few perk mistakes, and with so many weaknesses I was easily destroyed. Next time I've followed the  key perks recommendation, survived and enjoyed. After hitting required perks, this build leaves feeling that I want to play one more time, so many things to try, explore, or talk through ....
