    For the last two or so months, Ning has been washing certain images out... don't quite know why. Here's what I have noticed:

    • PNG--for whatever reason, these files seem to suffer the most from Ning whitewash... save the affected images as a jpeg file and re-insert them into the post
    • Resizing--images resized in Ning seem to suffer from whitewash as well... even some jpeg images. Try resizing them in GIMP or Photoshop or Paint or whatever exactly how you want them to show up in Ning

    This image, for example, was both in PNG format, and was originally larger and was thus resized in Ning (if you click on your original, you will notice that a larger image can be seen, and it isn't screwed over by Ning)... so Ning barfed bleach all over it.

    It's maddening, and it means that images that you would like people to be able to see better by clicking on them for the full view have to remain "post" sized.

    I'm not 100% sure what's happened here but I'd say that the image format PNG leaves far too much information (layers/adjustments/contrast information) in the file when it's uploaded...

    ...that means ning has all the ammo it needs to go and completely fuck up the file. And ning looooooves to fuck things up...it's part of its personality...

    ...you're actually witnessing the birth of a primitive AI right here on TSB! First it will destroy our builds....then it will nuke our cities!!

    Best bet is to simply flatten the image and save it as a jpg like you said.

    I don't know why this happens, but I do know how to avoid it -- at least as far as embedded images are concerned.

    The root issue happens because Ning, for whatever reason, likes to append width properties to image URLs when you upload images to the site. You can see this very easily by clicking the "Edit" button on any build you've created, then clicking the HTML Editor tab to view/edit the build markup. Locate any image (CTRL+F "img src") and you should see something like this (taken from the Crimson Scar's perk spread, which is currently being affected by this bug, and I haven't bothered fixing as I've been meaning to make a new perk spread anyways):

    <img src="discussions/19001-20000/19446-CSPerks.png?width=750" width="750" class="align-center" />

    Note how, at the end of the image URL, there's that ?width=750 bit? Go ahead and just delete it. It's redundant anyways; you've got the width="750" element doing that already. It's the ?width=750 suffix that causes this bug. I don't know why, but there you go. Here's what the image looks like with that width suffix still in the URL:

    And here's what it looks like when I remove the suffix:

    Primitive AI! xD If it destroys the builds, our cities won't be worth living in anyhow ;D

    THAT is a sweet bit of info to be armed with in the war against Ning's AI... I was dreading the thought of having to go back and convert all my messed up images. This will help immensely :D How is it that you know so much stuff, Teccam? ;D
